There has to be something Sony can do to improve sales for PS5 in Japan somewhat (assuming they even care to)

Yeah I guess. I thought Demon Slayer was boring (gorgeous but boring) and couldn't make it past S1.

I don't really like any Shonen anime though outside of HxH, FMAB and Jojos.
it's so big that the first movie is literally the highest grossing film of all time in japan (except for one 1942 film after inflation). infinity castle is probably gonna beat that. maybe.

Switch 2 is completely sold out in Japan and only available through store lottery systems. Nintendo done amazingly well to keep it in stock for the first two months but it will slow down now until they can catch back up with demand.

Looks like Demon Slayer 2 won't quite sell as well as the first one.

Strong legs for DK though, word of mouth seems to be good!

Square Enix should put more love into Dragon Quest Monsters franchise. For beat a game like Pokemon is no easy job.

Sony hikes the price of PS5 by 19% in Japan

Totoki and Nishino are leading PS Japan into oblivion:

People need to realize Nintendo's gotta start pulling back on the reins a bit to stockpile for the Pokémon Z/A bundles. We're still in the lazy summer months. Wars will break out over Christmas.

look at the weekly chart releases there almost nothing most weeks if you own ps5. That's the problem, the stuff that does release is unappealing to japan. It's what happens when you focus on the West only. Even if ps5 had a handheld it wouldn't do shit as the software Japanese gamers like already release on switch.

Software.

What is a handheld without software to appeal the japanese market?
It's funny to say that when a large portion of the games on Famitsu's "Most Wanted" chart are (or will be) available on PlayStation.

The problem with PlayStation is their price. And of course, a handheld in Japan would certainly help them.

Funny will be the charts.

And no, the problem isn't the price. Copium is the problem.

There is no solution to this problem. Sony stopped caring about Japan and Japan stopped caring about Sony. No handheld will solve this problem.

Of course Sony is the problem, but the PS5 was selling around 20-25K every week before the price increase.

Imagine the sales of PS5 without PS4 BC.

There is no solution because Sony doesn't see as a problem. They want more focus on western countries, I quite sure they want a handheld for those territory, nothing to do with Japan at all.

As soon as Sony start to port their games to NS, will be no more reason at all.

The PS6 handheld is going to put Sony in the Japan market again. Cant wait.

Famitsu's most wanted chart has almost no relation to what the Japanese market will actually buy though. It's very niche.

Famitsu's most wanted charts survey ~1,500+ readers of a gaming magazine (in the year 2025) for their opinion, if you think that is even remotely representative of the actual general gaming population there, I have a lovely bit of property at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave to sell you
