[Weekly software and hardware sales] PS5 Pro sold 78,000 units in the first week. In software, "Mario & Luigi RPG Brothership!" took the top spot. "Batospi" and "Nokunuko" also ranked [11/4-11/10]

Sales ranking announced by Famitsu. This time, we bring you a summary of the estimated weekly sales figures for game software and hardware from November 4th to November 10th, 2024.

The latest action RPG with Mario and Luigi from the Super Mario series as the main characters, Mario & Luigi RPG Brothership! made its debut. It sold 63,441 units and took the top spot.

All of the titles featuring Mario and friends are doing well with Super Mario Party Jamboree coming in second and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe coming in fourth, so it seems likely that this title will also see continued sales.

Other titles making their debut include Battle Spirits Crossover in 5th place and Nokushi: Slitterhead in 9th place. The former is a digital card game based on the trading card game Battle Spirits while the latter is a battle action adventure created by Bokeh Game Studio, founded by Keiichiro Toyama also known for the Silent Hill and SIREN series.

On the other hand, looking at the hardware the PlayStation 5 Pro was released on November 7, 2024 with sales of 78,086 units. It will be interesting to see how the arrival of the machine will affect the sales of PS5 titles.

Wow but it costs over 100.000 yen there 🤯
I seriously thought it was basically launched on paper in that market.
Huge success.

So all the actual sources like Totoki and first sales data are telling the story that this is doing at least as good as the PS4 Pro.
It's a cruel world for haters, the collection of L's is huge is growing.

Good start for the PS5 Pro, but didn’t prevent the drop for the PS5 compared to last year. Also, bad start for Mario and Luigi.

Very surprised by the Pro sales. Also the fact that only one Ps5 game is in the top 10 despite that huge hardware boost.

Sad to see Mario and Luigi open with those numbers. The Mario RPG Remake did around 300k or something I think. Hoping it has some legs, it’s a great return to form and I want a “Switch 2” continuation!

Next year the PS5 has big titles hitting Japan. Monster Hunter Wilds, Ghost of Yotei, and maybe even DQ12. Even GTA6 will push some units. The only big title for Japan this year was really FF7 Rebirth that had a way lower ceiling than DQ12 or Monster Hunter Wilds. That and the price increase, it hasn't been a terrible year for PlayStation there. I could easily see it getting to 8 million units by the end of next year and with eventual price decreases, it should outperform the PS4 there by end of life.

The PS5 Pro is a digital system except for those who buy the disc drive attachment, which I believe is just as sold out in Japan as it is everywhere else. You weren't going to see a large spike in physical sales because of the Pro especially without a major launch title.

For example I bought Hogwarts Legacy digitally while it was on sale about a week or two before the launch of the PS5 Pro with the intention of playing this on Pro. That's not going to show up on a chart like this.

I remember a lot people saying the same the past year… At this point i don’t think any game is going to “save” the PS5 in Japan + The Switch 2 it’s going to be the new thing and almost every third party supporting it. Even selling almost 90K consoles this week didn’t improve the software side, maybe the scalpers did their job over there. Next week numbers are going to help to have a better idea of the real situation. And if they drop below 20K for the PlayStation 5 family, it’s not going to look good.

LOL... this whole post is nonsense.

A lot of people saying the same the past year? Regarding what? What big titles hit PS in Japan this year? As I mentioned it was only Rebirth, which had a ceiling based on how many people bought FF7 Remake.

Monster Hunter + Ghost of Yotei + DQ12 are all bigger than pretty much any single player game that has hit Japan so far this generation, maybe with the exception of Ghost of Yotei vs FF16, but it would probably be close.

PS5 Pro again is a digital system, and famitsu only charts physical games.

Where did you get 20K from? The real question isn't whether it can get 20K next week. The real question is can the PS5 sustain its sales and sell big numbers of hardware around big software releases. It's clearly on pace to do as well as a the PS4 which is saying something given the state of the yen and the Japanese economy combined with the price of the PS5 vs the PS4.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Dang, Switch a beast even in Pro launch week. And in software too! Did they buy no games or is it old devout owners upgrading or something? Why didn't they do some bundles to sell stuff like Astro Bot or whatever's a big thing on the platform?

Because:
- Famitsu is an outdated source that doesn't really have access to as much data as Media Create and often makes mistakes with their estimations;
- PS5 Pro is digital only unless you buy the disc drive. There's no reason why physical game sales would increase for PS5 Pro since it can't play physical games.

I already had this discussion back in 2023 and i was in the right side, the threads are there, you can check some if you want. Time would tell who is right.

Supposedly these were the opening sales of past games in the series, for anyone who’s interested:

Monster hunter wild effect? Anyway I notice Japan loves the pro version, even the ps4 pro sales was good in the past. Anyway, will there be a possibility that FF7 rebirth sales will increase due to the fact that ps5 pro has a big upgrade to the game?

I'm actually shocked by this one

You should ask yourself why you're shocked.

Impressive, almost as impressive as the ironclad constitution of the "no one is going to pay that price, it's DOA, etc." crowd. Ya'll stay winning.

Exactly, but they'll double down. I got a lot of flack for saying that there would be a campaign online against the PS5 Pro. I recognized how much it was going to cost at launch and I was correct there. I was also correct that it would sell regardless.

There are enough core gamers out there that don't want to play games sub 60 fps and still want high fidelity graphics. The previous generation proved that with the Pro and the Xbox One X. Now there is only one midgen refresh out there. That's a major factor in things.

These same people can't understand that the iPhone Pro models actually outsell the iPhone base models. That isn't to suggest the PS5 Pro will outsell the base model in this case, but only to suggest people don't mind spending a couple hundred bucks more on something that is out and out superior.

A lot of these people have an agenda and some simply can't afford the machine, but regardless ignore that when the market gauges a product its generally on its merits. The PS5 Digital launched at 400 and people were still buying the standard PS5 for 500 even when the digital became easily available, yet we know that 70+ percent of games sold are digital and we know people aren't buying the PS5 for the 4K bluray player, that market is dying.

Good PS5 Pro numbers but, WTF happened to PS software sales? Barely anything in the Top 10 yet it's a big launch week for the Pro.

I'm more curious how the sales hold up outside of launch week globally, but for Japan in particular. That'll be a bigger sign of how the Pro performs long-term. Decent launch for Brothership.

Happy to see Romancing SaGa 2 Remake hold very well, at least on Switch. Would be nice to get Steam Japan digital numbers for the title; PS physical is just down in general but maybe sales are better on the digital store, who knows.

I imagine a lot of the people who get the Pro week 1 are people upgrading, so wouldn't be any big software boost for older titles.

This is what happened with the PS4 launch in 2016.
