Even nostradamus has his off daysI'm actually shocked by this one
Great start for PS5 - but the 100k yen (literally) question will be all about the momentum whether they can keep selling good amount week after week.
Just didn't think it would have much appeal to that market. You should ask yourself why you're shocked.

I imagine a lot of the people who get the Pro week 1 are people upgrading, so wouldn't be any big software boost for older titles.
This is what happened with the PS4 launch in 2016.
Less a question of the week to week sales and more of a question of whether specific games drive adoption.
Monster Hunter Wilds comes out in February for example and based on impressions from the beta, I wouldn't be surprised if this drives Pro adoption.
If MHW is a hit on the Pro, expect more people to buy the Pro. Sony really needs for it to be Pro Enhanced on launch and a significant upgrade, i.e. a competent patch.
Then you have Ghost of Yotei which likely lands in Q2 or Q4 and will almost certainly be a visual showcase on the PS5 Pro.
Dragon Quest 12 if it releases next year probably won't push the PS5 Pro, but it might be a reason why a lot of people decide to pick up a console and it might as well be the Pro for many of them.
PS5 Pro will likely have a smaller ratio of units sold than PS4 Pro in Japan simply because of how late into the generation it has come and how expensive it is. You look at how many units the PS5 needs to match the PS4 and there isn't a ton of room left.
It doesn't need "saving" as such.I remember a lot people saying the same the past year… At this point i don’t think any game is going to “save” the PS5 in Japan + The Switch 2 it’s going to be the new thing and almost every third party supporting it. Even selling almost 90K consoles this week didn’t improve the software side, maybe the scalpers did their job over there. Next week numbers are going to help to have a better idea of the real situation. And if they drop below 20K for the PlayStation 5 family, it’s not going to look good.
Sony has been very keen to protect the profit margins of PS5 in Japan. Bundles would undo that.Dang, Switch a beast even in Pro launch week. And in software too! Did they buy no games or is it old devout owners upgrading or something? Why didn't they do some bundles to sell stuff like Astro Bot or whatever's a big thing on the platform?
There's definitely been an improvement in PS5 software sales this year. But the improvement is likely to come in 2025.That makes sense. But even so, the software thing was something I thought would be separate from Pro. As in, I though software sales were finally starting to normalize to something healthier on the physical charts.
Guess that isn't the case and what peaks we're seeing are still exceptions to the rule. Digital would make up some difference, but not a ton, on average. Not factoring in the F2P titles like Genshin of course. Maybe there are some PS4/PS5 titles in the Top 30, I'll have to check...
Genuinely think you're overestimating Pro's long-term sales outlook in Japan. Yes it had a launch slightly better than PS4 Pro but that's offset by PS5 sales overall trending back to PS4 levels and still big chance of dipping sub-PS4 in a few weeks.
The games you're saying could catapult Pro sales, I would think have a better chance pushing non-Pro PS5 sales instead, especially if SIE look into sales promotions around the time of their release.
As those would likely be limited to the base PS5 models, not the Pro.
I don't even know why people keep bringing that out. Is there even any solid evidence of such thing *these days*?I doubt that's a factor with this price it has. The exports of PS5 outside Japan seem to have ended after the latest price rise.
Why are people still buying new ps4s?
Ftfy, that coveted 1%!Truly a console for the 1% of China.

Why are people still buying new ps4s?
Not that I can see, the lasest price increase seems to have put an end to the reselling for goodNever in the world I expected it to outsell PS4 Pro at launch week.
I don't even know why people keep bringing that out. Is there even any solid evidence of such thing *these days*?
I wouldn't say that the week before DQIIIPhysical sales are truly dead
I mean when the #5 barely sells 5k it says a lot.Not that I can see, the lasest price increase seems to have put an end to the reselling for good
I wouldn't say that the week before DQIII
Dayum, that's a bigger launch than the PS4 Pro!
Comparison:
- PS4 Pro sales numbers at launch: 65,194
- PS4 Pro launch price: ¥45k
- PS5 Pro sales numbers at launch: 78,086
- PS5 Pro launch price: ¥120k
It's definitely lower than 2004 but I wouldn't say it's dead. Nearly half of this week's top 30 have over 1 million in physical sales.I mean when the #5 barely sells 5k it says a lot.
Japan needs an actual source for physical + digital data cause Famitsu isn't it. It's 2024, not 2004.
