Far Cry 3 PC performance thread

Yeah right, it's just one simple if-then line, no?

What the hell.

Are you somehow under the impression that including a no-HUD toggle would have been difficult for them?

Stop defending lazy developers. The recent AC3 from Ubisoft had no problem whatsoever including a detailed option to disable every single HUD element separately.

AMD Phenom II X4 940 BE 3.0GHz

Playing on Ultra Settings, DirectX 9 and getting about 40-60, usually staying in the mid to high 50's. Game is gorgeous.

I spoke about a similar issue earlier. I was getting locked 60fps, then I restarted and was getting in the 30s without changing any settings. Then I reset the game and it was back at 60.

Starting up this game sometimes seems like throwing a dart at a dartboard to decide what frame rate you're going to be looking at.

Ya the game seems to randomly enable triple buffering upon loading, Sometimes i'd start the game and was locked @ 30fps indicating no triple buffering, but then I'd exit to desktop / reload game and i'm back to 55-60fps, I solved this issue by forcing Triple buffering in D3DOverider. (Vsync 1 frame in FC3).

So, similar to the console versions? :)

Only half joking. The Digital Foundry article on Far Cry 3 they did mention the console version framerate dropping into the teens.

But all the games except this gives me like 25 fps at low. Even C1 and C2. I don't know whats the problem with this. Prolly driver issue. Its a switchable graphics, AMD currently doesn't make Switchable drivers and Dell never cares (they are supposed to).

Is it me or is the sound quality in this game bad? Anyone have this on a home theatre set up? I'm having issues with my hdmi 1.4 setup it doesn't sound right.

I just tested it on my 5.1 speakers - it sounds amazing! I usually don't like playing PC games using the surround sound because for some reason the levels are always off, but in Far Cry 3 everything sounds really clear.

I'm running HDMI out of my 560Ti into an HDMI receiver.

I want the toggle as much as you, but I am not expecting it in the launch week, or the first update.

Thanks for the impressions and keep em coming guys. Will probably pick this up early next year.

Of course it not hard to implement, but they didn't. If they do it now, they have to QA it, which would probably be a pretty major undertaking. Had they done it from the beginning like they should have, it would've been fine.

Can someone write up a post on how to modify this game. I can't wrap my head around how to inject SMAA, what "false" PostFX does, this is making me really dread pc gaming :(.

I know somebody knows whats up- come on GAF, help a brotha out.

I don't think "false" PostFX does much of anything except change some settings you're better off changing yourself. injecting SMAA is as easy as putting all the files from injectSMAA in the /Far Cry 3/bin directory, OR if that gives you crashes, put the .ini and .dll files in the bin directory, and the other two files in the /Far Cry 3 directory. SMAA makes very little difference for me though.

Set PostFX to low (turns nearly everything off I think) and then adjust to your liking by adding depth of field or motion blur toggles in the config.

All I want is the ability to make the HUD touch the edge of my screen. It's like Ubisoft made this game suitable for the TV with the worst overscan ever.

Huh... If the game starts to have micro-stutters go into the options and change any setting and then change it right back before resuming gameplay. Poof! No more stuttering for like, half an hour :/

Guys, I'm on a Intel Core2Duo 3Ghz, 8GB RAM, AMD 5750 1GB GFX card.

Is it worth it to get this game on PC or will it look arse and am I better off with the PS3 version?

I got rid of micro stuttering by using adaptive vsync in the nvidia control panel and turning of vsync in game. It was pretty much unplayable until I did this.

does anyone know how to get the deluxe edition goodies? The warrior and predator pack?

I did not have to enter any extra keys for this stuff when installing through steam, are they just supposed to show up in the stores for me to buy eventually?

You need to enter your steam key ingame. Go to the options and at the bottom there's an option called "Additional Content" or something like that.

Thank you I wasn't aware of that, thought it would just know it was a deluxe key off the bat, I'll give this a shot after work.

Any of you chaps using D3DO have a GTX570 with multi monitor setup? On recent releases this included I get the chime but am faced with a black screen.

At least here I can manually change it in game, but I'd be curious if anyone had a solution.

I got an i5 3570 3,3ghtz, 8Gig ram and a 5750 too, it works better than the PS3 version and the 360 for what I've seen... You will have to make some sacrifices (no MSAA for exemple...) but it works fine and it's better than PS3...

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one having problems

I have a Core2Duo 3.0GHz, 8GB RAM, and a GTX 560Ti
- Running at 1920x1080, I have to run at Low settings and get 20-30fps
- I changed resolution to 1600x900 and am able to run it at Ultra settings for 30-40fps
- I have the latest nVidia drivers

Am I being bottlenecked by my CPU or is the game just not fully optimized yet?

Also, when I ran the game in DX9 and DX11, there was almost no difference in the fps counter.

CPU. I'm on a 2500k with the same graphics card and I get a constant 60 fps on High/Very High DX9 except post fx on medium @1080p.

There's your problem

Okay, I'm being bottlenecked. Still, the varying issues on performance is bothersome to see. But now I know it's just time for me to upgrade the last components I've ignored.

I really gotta check my FPS. So far, it hasn't given me any performance issues though. Playing with DX11 Ultra settings @ 1080p.

GTX 680, latest official drivers
2600k @ 4.5 ghz
16Gb RAM

Speaking of which, how do you access the deluxe stuff in-game? I got a pop-up when starting the campaign but I skipped it :P
