Far Cry PC vs Xbox 360 video (Split screen in some cases)

Comparing a 2-year old PC game to a next-gen title is kinda retarded.

I mean it's obvious, clear as day that a next-gen title should look better.

OR IS IT?

How about comparing Crysis to Far Cry 360, Klee :) ?

I love the water in the X360 version :)

*aka shameless bump ;)

i cant wait to see more of the 360 one, certainly looks hot. i definitely like the clarity of the pc one though. i dont like the fogging present on distant islands in that 360 video.

FC 360 isn't a next-gen game.

Compare Crysis on PC to the console version(s) when they're shown.

Cryengine2 will be on 360 and PS3 anyway so its not as if Far Cry 360 is the ceiling for graphics anyway...

Amazing water on the 360 version. I think the video was to show how far things have improved, rather than showing it's better than an old PC game (which still looks nice today, IMO)

FC 360 has some next-gen water though.

Wait...what? so comparing a 2 year old PC game to this new 360 version isn't fair, while comparing the 360 version to Crysis, which is still at least a year away, is? :lol

Still, this 360 version of Far Cry Instincts looks better than I expected. At first, it barely looked better than the original Xbox version.

it should be noted that this was a comparison that the dev team did and was originally intended only for internal use

So if Far Cry 360 isn't a next gen game why's it on a next gen system? Dun dun DUNNN!!

The arguments of generation semantics. It's easy to forget that PC's don't adhere to console generations, yes it's 2 years later than when Farcry came out, but it's still 3 years later than when Xbox 1 was released for Farcry, and we're comparing max hardware settings to Farcry 360.

Anyway this looks great. Compare Farcry Xbox to X360 for even more differences.

wow certainly i didn't expect this one to look this good,
it would be on my buy list if graw was not coming out at the same time

My money is on both games. GRAW is start of the month and FCIP is end of the month. 3 weeks should give me enough time to experience all GRAW has to offer. Blazing Angels is also on my list.

Funny though how UBI is going to cannabalize their own sales by releasing similar types of games within 3 weeks of each other.

Wow that looks gorgeous, wave algos and everything. Comparable to the Warhawk trailer as far as best water rendering seen so far. That 3D look really makes all the flat shiny normal mapped stuff of the past look archaic in comparison.

The only reason early normal mapping looks so plasticy is because developers dont know what there doing with the speclural maps..

2 years and $400 bucks later and you got better water. Woot!

Strange water it got there. Waves within 10 feet of you but any further out is completely calm.

The water looks very nice, but I dislike how it seems to just "stop" pretty close to the camera. There's a very hard line between where the waves seem to start and where the water looks perfectly still. I guess they could improve that, of course, or maybe it's just the resolution of video exaggerating that.

As someone already pointed out in one of the other Far Cry X360 threads (Warm Machine, I think), the moire effect would get distracting if the waves extended to far into the distance. I think it looks pretty awesome, too.

If they are using the art and assets from the PC version in the 360 port then I don't understand why anyone would expect anymore of an improvement than what you see here. It's a quick dirty port to get $$$. :)

actually, in calm waters, the waves don't really form till they get closer to the shore...

I wonder if they could go further, though, or do something to take the edge off it. It's distracting this way too, imo, although without seeing the alternatives i couldn't say what's worse ;)
