Far Cry Primal |OT| The Land Before Towers

Yeah, that mammoth DLC seems like something you'd kill time with while the game finishes downloading. Yikes. The regular game is pretty tight. I like how your animal will sometimes keep lesser predators at bay. Dholes pretty much leave me alone now.

The positive impressions in this thread, plus positive reviews from outlets I usually agree with the most, made me decide to pick this up. It actually doesn't release in Japan until mid-April, so I had to buy an imported version off Amazon JP for around $90. Pretty damn expensive, but I don't want to wait!

Shit moved up to hard and man, a small trek across the map to an objective turned into about an hour of battling, chasing, hunting, running, healing, killing, hiding and dying... lol

It's awesome. Thank goodness the respawns are pretty quick

Ya lol. It changes an insane amount with just going to hard. Its probably one of the larger pops I have witnessed in a difficulty change

As for weapons. I go with with the the Buzzer.
Throw a bee hive, light the dude on fire then throw a spear at his legs so he can't get away and dies being burned and stung...ya i may need some help lol

Also I love that you can stick folks to items. I have stuck a chieftain to a Mammoth which was incredible. Watching that thing pull him around the battlefield lol

The bee bombs are indeed fun as hell.

I love this game.

I want to acknowledge them for supporting no-HUD gameplay. Not just for allowing the option, but for making a game that plays well without it. There is a recognizable audio cue for everything in the game. For every situation that normally requires HUD stuff, there's a cue.

Thank you devs.

I have my health displayed and the update that tells me what I'm looting, but otherwise... nothing. You can even tell the health of your beast by the sound of its breathing. So good.

Looking forward to the PC release, obviously, but I sort of wish this were a standalone DLC, for purposes of time and money. I have little of either.... but I still want to play this.

That's amazing. Really hard to justify using a minimap when you're a caveman, let's be honest. I'm glad that by disabling it, you're not actively pitting the game itself against you.

The achievement to kill and skin a tamed beast was awful. I did it to get it done and over with, but I felt bad standing there watching my wolf buddy bleed out.

Unless you are insanely highly skilled/insanely lucky that was bound to happen during normal gameplay. I mean 100% bound to happen.

What is the sixth mission, anyways? Still trying to figure out which one glitched on me.

I love just mainly using the bow in this game as much as I can. I am deadly with it

I have always been good with a bow in games, though. It may be more generous here, but it still feels great.

The bow was my go to as well. I used it for about 70% of my kills if not more. I was great with it, too, even before the upgrades.

I'd just use the regular bow, too. Not the long bow (its aiming never clicked with me and I ditched it almost immediately), or the double shot bow.

I'd mostly just go for headshots and got a ton of those. I got more kills with headshots than anything else.

The club was second for me.

Yeah, it was sad doing that.

I did it a couple more times, thinking I'd get a cave bear skin but I didn't.

They rock.
Also leading mammoths to enemy encampments then when they start attacking the badguys throw a bees nest on the mammoth and light it on fire. Its like a damn hate cyclone.

Also since I am almost done playing through it again. I decided to try to 100% it and the lower number of collectibles means this might be the first ever I 100%

Game is really just something special. Hope they continue to experiment with this franchise.

Ubisoft killing it with this followed up in a few weeks by The Division, gotta give them some respect.

Like in Far Cry 2 when you couldn't heal your buddy and they told you to kill them either by overdose or bullet to the head?

Far Cry has continually been one of the strongest and most immersive series in gaming. I never got the chance to play the first game (although I did play Predator, I think it was, on the original Xbox. I thought it was the first game remastered back then) but I loved 2, 3, 4, Blood Dragon and this.

Even health, which I keep on, has some cues. You get a sound when you fully replenish. I'm probably gonna switch that off too at some point, see if it plays well without it.

Can tell you how awesome it is to play with zero videogame bullshit on screen. Looks amazing. And unlike most games it's completely viable. I'm even playing on hard btw.

I don't even use hunter vision. I follow footprints or blood trails. If you wound an animal, it runs off somewhere to die, but it bleeds all the way there. You can follow the blood. You don't need batman vision.

I didn't play FC3, but I do own and have played FC4 ( 23hrs) but can't continue with because I'm finding it boring. Please tell me this is nothing like it.

( I've read some impressions of this page and it appears I'm right) but still there's more research before I jump in :).

Man, you are giving me all kinds of ideas now.

Btw I hope you bow guys are rocking no crosshair. Little in gaming feels as good as landing a no crosshair headshot (especially with the throwing shard or my personal fav the sling).

I want an update for this... some kind of glass cannon, survival mode if they can think of a neat way to do it.

edit: gah double post oops.

Far Cry 4 was my GOTY, so my opinion may not mean a lot.

Far Cry Primal emphasizes hunting and crafting, and is more about exploring wilderness than doing missions that progress towards killing a bad guy. The story takes a bit of a backseat.

The truth. I just don't get the hate for them when they are far more hit than miss. They have a strong looking lineup on the horizon beyond Primal and The Division as well.

Yes! This is exactly what I've been saying as well. Each iteration of Far Cry outside of 4 has been a huge change/step up. Best series in gaming right now. I liked 1 and 2, but I have thought 3, 4, Blood Dragon, and Primal have all been fantastic.

ONe thing that is going to be interesting is it appeared to be selling amazingly well on Amazon both prior to and after the reviews. Most likely helped because though its skewed in the high 70's and almost 80 many of the reviewers that liked it are well known for normally not like Sterling. Plus on my channel I am seeing far more positive than negative though the negative people like to scream louder.
If the PC port is handled well I can see this being fairly popular. We will see though.

I think 80% because of Assassins Creed. They took what should be an amazing franchise and completely ran it into the ground.

As pretty as it is on consoles, I bet it will melt your face on a decent rig. Looking forward to hearing impressions from those playing there when it drops.

The problem is some of the best games were their last couple aside from Unity and many folks are just NOW getting into console and PC games.
If I had a dollar for every person who said "DUDE why do people hate that I just bought AC or Farcry" on their PS4 or Xbox One as their first videogame I would be a rich man lol I mean god damn walking into a gamestop and having the person there give you the history of Ubisoft...WTF. Though that history always negates the gigantic number of good games they release every year both large and small.

its hilarious how many people forget that the newcomers don't have institutionalized hatred/tiredness and see the games with a fresh eye because they are entering the stream and for the most part instead of saying "Man your lucky here are some cool titles" a good deal of folks want to hammer in their own dislikes before the newcomer discovers their own.

My only two real complaints about this so far:
  • I wish I could put away my weapon. It's distracting being up all the time.
  • I wish there was more first person body animation. It's great when you slide or grapple, but idk... just wish there was more of it. Also think going prone should've been a thing.

Ubisoft doesn't deserve a lot of the hate it gets. It's responsible for some of the best series in gaming (Far Cry, South Park) and has some other good to great IPs/potentially great new IPs.

I like the Assassin's Creed games overall, but their mistake has been milking it like crazy using the Kotick model. There's been far too much of those games and it's hurting their reputation.

III and Unity (I enjoyed Unity) were the only ones considered real disappointments, perhaps Revelations as well. The rest have been solid. But now they are giving it a much needed break and have said that they will not be releasing them yearly anymore. It should do wonders for it.

Ubisoft only published SP. It was developed by Obsidian Entertainment in collaboration with South Park Digital Studios.

Mad props to them for actually publishing it.

Sadly people get confused and forget to separate church and state. For instance artificial hold out is in no way a promise that they will suddenly have new never before seen game systems. Worse yet new does in no way shape or form mean better or more enjoyable. Otherwise we would all be playing Spore.
It may yield results, but will it be some massive iteration past the game-play elements such as the jump to sailing? There is no guarantee that the separate devs working on their own titles were impacted negatively enough that some amazing idea can come from an extra year.
Church - the games needs to be rated separately from
State- the company.
It just rarely ever happens.

PS. These thoughts do not mean I look negatively on any holding off they may do of releases. Just that fatigue does not equal bad and new does not equal good.

Game continues to be so fucking good. So far, my favorite Far Cry -- and I LOVE the series -- which is kind of ironic since it feels the least like a "Far Cry" out of any entry in the series.

Tonight was mostly just roaming around, and taming beasts for the first time and just enjoying the moment to moment gameplay. The taming beasts stuff is way funner than it has any right to be. I remember chasing around the purple mountain lion while it was wreaking havoc on an opposing tribe, while also killing any animals in its way. I followed it from a distance and just watched it until the moment was right, then threw out some bait and tamed it. Something just so undeniably cool about the whole beast master thing.

I also really like the voice acting in this game, Takkar especially. So damn glad they didn't get Troy Baker for this one.

I liked Unity a lot, and really liked III as well. I guess I'm in the minority.

I didn't know III was actively disliked until I joined GAF.

There is a GREAT deal of things that stepping off the plane will alert you too.
That plane being any large gathering at all. Not just a forum.
It can be pretty insane to come to my channel from here, or the other 2 forums I frequent to here and vice versa.

And thats not bad mouthing any of those groups. I wouldn't be a part of them if I didn't enjoy them immensely. But sometimes its best to step away.

Man the combat in this game is pretty bad. They got rid of the guns and replaced them with ultra basic alternatives. The melee is straight out of Skyrim. I was expecting something much better given the setting. You can't seem to parry or dodge, and the gigantic hit boxes for your bow makes it comically easy.

Spot on. I'm really enjoying the game but the melee combat is awful. They could have at least added some finishing animations to spice it up. I've mainly stopped using clubs (I do throw them) and am just bow/projectile/bomb only.

Ya its not the best. The double handed club makes it feel better simply due to how it all flows weight wise but I was hoping for some really visceral combat. Even with the bigger collision boxes I am finding expert and no hud...nut crushing.

This game is fantastic! I am taking it slow not because im conciously doing it but I just like seeing the world and when the world goes dark you know its gonna be challenging!

Great stuff

But man oh man how did that Mammoth vs Rhino mission get past playtesting it was Ride to Hell level jank!

Aside from that I have loved this missions so far. Got myself a leopard and I LOVE when you are creeping and you can see your animal creep alongside you.
