Far Cry Primal |OT| The Land Before Towers

I think this game will be a surprise hit with a lot of folks. My review I wrote is one of the higher scored, but I feel this game just works so well with its theme and the mechanics that Far Cry has. It's like a perfect marriage of ideas and gameplay.

I've noticed you and I have similar tastes. <3

It's a shame Ubisoft forgot to include meaningful progression in this game.

Loved the setting, but was completely done with upgrades ans story in 15 hours.

This game should have been 40$...

Ok, I'm still somewhat on the fence on this game. You guys talking about it make it sound really good.

Far Cry 4 is the only FC game I played and I LOVED it. However, the hunting parts were some of the lesser enjoyable parts for me - not that I hated them, just didn't like them as much as taking over the outposts, main missions, etc.

In light of that, should I be wary of this game?

Trade some games in!

Ebgames had a promo, I traded in Arkham Knight, Just Cause 3 and Shadow of Mordor and ended up paying 15$ for Primal.

I haven't sold/traded in games in years, and seeing this post reminds me why. Trading in those three games and still needing to drop cash? No way. You loose so much money doing this.

I don't get why people don't just rent games if buying them is so expensive that you're going to trade them in bulk to get new games. Clearly you're not planning on keeping the game anyway, and eventually trading for another new game, so just rent it.

I don't lose money because I've already gotten my entertainment value on those games.

Those games would be sitting on my shelf forever... Never playing them again.

I see where you're coming from but that's not how I approach my video games.

Yes if you like to be 'lead' through a game with missions and a progression structure, this won't be for you. This encourages you to diverge from the beaten path, as it were.

I started this last night and enjoyed the hour or so I put into it. Two things:

1) What are thoughts on Expert mode. Is it really that hard? How quickly does the difficulty ramp up because in the opening areas, I did not have any trouble.

2) What is with the motion blur when you turn? I find it really jarring the way it flashes on/off as you turn/stop turning. I've played other games with motion blur, but not every felt that it was as jarring as this.

I'd have sold those on ebay. I rarely trade games in because you get so little value on the trade in. If you sell on ebay, you'll net a lot more cash for your games. If ebay isn't your thing, there are other options, but it is the easiest probably with the largest available market of buyers. It's also a lot better place for buying used games, usually, than buying used at a retailer.

Just tamed my first rare

So cute <3

Any idea where to get rare feathers and rare north yellow plant? I have killed around 100 eagles and other birds and no luck, so I'm guessing they come from somewhere else. Same with the rare yellow plant.

Patience is a virtue that not everyone has though. Its a shame that for some that 'new game fix' is so bad, but its up to them what they do with the money they earn at the end of it all.

It seems like you cannot collect Rare Feathers until you complete a quest called The Craft for Wogah.

See above for feathers. That quest gives you more than you can ever use.

The rare plant is random. Just upgrade your village and they will come. 10 hours in I had like 50 in my stash.

this game is cool as hell. echo the sentiments of Opus and SJRB. the game is pure atmosphere. has pulled me into the world (with less than 10% complete) more than any other Far Cry game. playing without a HUD and with headphones just adds to the immersion factor. I agree that I never want to to tell someone HOW to play a game... but I firmly believe the fun factor doubles when played methodically, as more of "life of caveman" game. the journey in between locations in the world is fantastic. Ubisoft could have done a better job pushing the player in that gameplay direction (perhaps the addition of Expert difficulty hints that they are listening). either way, the game looks beautiful, the hunting is intense (epecially at night), the gameplay is fun. Ubi knocked it out of the park with the ambience. didn't think I'd be so high on this game, but it is damn good so far.

My village is fully upgraded except one hut, and I' ve been gathering for like two hours yesterday and nothing. Perhaps it's like with feathers, when I have to do a certain quest first to be able to pick them up

Does snake skinning unlock later on?

Didn't even know there were snakes in this game, heard a hiss and saw this gorgeous red/black snake. Then killed it.

The body in Hunter Vision glowed though as if it had loot but no button prompt.

Don't think so. I'm surprised too. :/

does this have the same horrible input lag like farcry 4 on ps4??
I was severely annoyed by FC4 input lag, but tbh the thought has even occurred to me in Primal. Not saying it's not there, just that, as someone seriously annoyed by it in 4, it's not something bothering me here.

Game feels pretty damn smooth (for 30fps) if anything.

Edit: You cannot skin snakes. Their venom will fuck you up. Sometimes they hit you with a "dry" bite. But if they tag you twice it's dead man walking. At least on my difficulty.

Expert Mode is awesome and with the hud off its going to make the game a whole different experience. With the hud on any difficulty is easily manageable.

I have no flashes with motion blur sorry. Or at least nothing perceptible. It may be a gamma increase that's leaking through drawn frames if the blur and frame draw are unsynched but I can't remember that being a thing in any game. Possible though.

To be fair, he must be in Canada where the game costs $79. So that makes it a little better.

Yep. Again, great deal for me. We all handle money differently. Anywho back on topic.

I've seen a bunch of them further up North just before the snowy areas.

Thanks just got to the Northern area...taking my sweet ass time exploring :)

Did not know about that poison! Thanks for the heads up.

Nah, EB is still a scam, our weak loonie is an excuse. I stopped going there ages ago and just go to local ma and pop shops. It sounds kind of dumb but at least I'm giving my money to some locals and not that conglomerate of wankers.

This will be my new rockband name lol.

As for snakes. Watchout. Best to kill them as they can reach out a fair distance and I have noticed with some of my animals they cause them to make more sound. Not sure if its supposed to indicate scared/nervous? Anyway they can kill with 1-2 bites on hard or expert.

Ugh I hate games like this where I get attached to animals. I still have the first animal you can tame and I really don't want to tame another cause he's my bro. he's helped my kill a lot of stuff and I'll feel bad if I use any other animal. i pet him and feed him after every battle and he's just so damn adorable.

Thanks, interesting. i wish there was a demo. What happened with demo's anyway? used to be almost with every game

Think of him as polygons :) He isn't real

Yep I agree. But I think of it like this.
I had one dog and loved him and though another would be cool as well...
and now I have 4.
I do the same thing here. each is awesome but sometimes they aren't the right tool for the job. I am like beastmaster I would, if I had to, sacrifice them. But I would also die for them. So I get them all and keep them safe by not throwing them into situations they can't work in.

God I love Amazon Prime. Just got my steelbook edition which comes with a nice map and soundtrack for less than $60.

Getting ready to spear some shit once the patch installs.

Well, when you tame a new animal in this game the other one doesn't die, it just goes away and can be called back :)

If anything, switching to a different animal right now will likely protect your buddy from a horrible death :(

I'm 10 hours in and I only have one complaint. I really wish the "hunter vision" only highlited items/tracks instead of also making the whole screen become black/white. It puts a strain on my eyes going from bright vivid colorful world to a black/white screen multiple times.

He means that trading in games at retailers results in less of a return than selling privately. The convenience of not having to wait for a sale and worry about postage (if you're not selling locally) comes at a cost, essentially.

The soundtrack is fantastic. It can get almost scary or ominous at the very least.

You can buy the Soundtrack off the UbiPlay thing for UbiPoints (is that what they are called?)

I have a ton (you get UbiPoints from just playing Ubisoft games), going to download it tonight.
You can also unlock a perk/weapon with those points.
