FarCry PC, help needed getting HDR working.

So I just installed FarCry on my new PC to check out the apperantly very cool HDR enhancments, I downloaded all the patches required (1.3, 1.31 and 1.33) and read to activate HDR you need to do so from the console with the command '\r_hdrrendering 1' (and apperantly you can choose to set it from 1 through to 11). I than read that only nVidia cards support the HDR effects in FarCry at the moment.

Now I have a ATI Radeon X1800XT, so if it's only nVidia, this does me no good, but I am also confused, I saw a post by GashPrex the other day where he stated he has the same card and was running FC with HDR and FSAAx16. So is there a workaround of some sort? I really wanted to play with HDR.

works on the x1800, i use it when I play to my knoweledge - i set it to 7. i believe i have 1.40 installed, saw it on tweakguides

here is what i did

A new Version 1.4 'Pre-release' patch has been made available for download at Guru3D. This patch is 5MB in size, and allows the use of HDR Rendering in combination with Antialiasing, on both 6X00 and 7X00 series Nvidia cards, as well as the 1X00 series ATI cards. To install this patch, you will have to extract the contents of the archive and overwrite the original versions in your Far Cry directories.

one thing i noticed in hdr is that the distance details seems to be lower

Cool thanks for the tip man, I added the files to the folder and thye did indeed work, also we are running almost the exact same system, though I dont know that we have the same kind of RAM, and I havnt oc'd.

Also I read that when you install the .14 patch it forces on you unlimited ammo, and also messes with the rocket launcher in some way (dont know how exactly though) and I do seem to have unlimited ammo now, you noticed this?

no problem - i haven't noticed the ammo, haven't played too much really - i also did the patch for 64 bit processors(put into 32 bit exe since i am still running pro). as for the mem, its mushkin xtreme xp4000. computer handles any game at max settings with 60 fps right now, and that's without using the second core really. i just built the comp a couple weeks ago for a real good deal ordering stuff through pricegrabber and ebay.

Jeez man, so many similarities there, I just built this machine a couple weeks back, my RAM is Corsair value select DDR400. And I know it's nice, every game I have tried has run great, though I was suprised when I ran 3DMark06 and scored rather poorly, especaly on the CPU tests I mean, damn I was getting between 0 to 1 fps. I dont know if I have to do some kind of configuration on this CPU, but I was expecting better than that.

But damn do I ever love this video card.

3DM05 and 06 CPU tests rape every CPU like that. It's what happens when you try to render complex, high resolution 3D scenes using just the CPU. This is why we have GPUs now. :) So, don't worry about that.
