For those that haven't seen Father Ted before, here's some info about the show that I have lovingly and painstakingly copied & pasted from Wikipedia.

Father Ted is a British sitcom that was produced by Hat Trick Productions for Channel 4. Written by Irish writers Arthur Mathews & Graham Linehan and starring a predominantly Irish cast, it originally aired over three series from 21 April 1995 until 1 May 1998, including a Christmas special, for a total of 25 episodes. The show aired on RTÉ Two in Ireland, and in Australia on Nine Network (series 1) and ABC Television (series 2 and 3).

Set on the fictional Craggy Island, a remote location off Ireland's west coast, the show starred Dermot Morgan as the eponymous Father Ted Crilly, alongside fellow priests Father Dougal McGuire (Ardal O'Hanlon) and Father Jack Hackett (Frank Kelly). Exiled on the island for various past incidents, the priests live together in the parochial house with their housekeeper Mrs Doyle (Pauline McLynn). The show was critically acclaimed, receiving several BAFTA awards, and remains a popular sitcom in Britain and Ireland. In 2004, it was ranked Number 11 in a poll to find Britain's Best Sitcom.

Would an actual catholic like it? Or would it be very easy to be offended by the content?

I remember a show that is a comedy about a flying nun. It was simply called The flying nun and it starred Sally Field floating around her habit due to being so lightweight and having a HUGE cornette. Overall, from what I saw it was very wacky.

I have to admit, she was quite a beautiful actress.

One of the best comedies ever in my opinion. Dermot Morgan passed away far too earlier, my heart still sinks when I think about it. Can't believe that was over 20 years ago, what the hell.

Would drop a favorite quote here, but there's too many of them!

Depends on the catholic - does the catholic in question have a sense of humour? If they don't, if they're uptight and take their religion too seriously and were offended by Life Of Brian then I don't hold out much hope for them. If they're like the catholics I know who will happily laugh at the absurdities of their own religion as any other, they'll have a great time.

If you like this, you should also check out The IT Crowd by the same (brilliant) writer.

You really should watch Father Ted. Go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on.

Amazing. Father Ted is a masterclass in comedy and surrealism. While I disagree with the creator's politics, Linehan has the most amazing ability to turn a small story quirk into the most important part of the whole show.

Hey Father....I thought of a good idea, but because I thought of it...it probably has something wrong with it.

Father Ted: THAT IS A GOOD IDEA!!!

No it isn't...I wasn't thinking when I thought of it so there is probably something wrong with it.

I like when Dougal says of a monster with 4 Arses on its face!

This show is beyond legendary in Ireland and it's a series that largely makes fun of us.
That's what makes it hilarious.

It's an amazing series.

I tried to show it to Americans before though and well.. they didn't get it.... in turn they showed me Seinfeld and .. well I didn't get that so I guess it goes both ways.

It doesn't deal with any serious issues of the Catholic Church as far as I can recall.

I see it as more making fun of Irish rural culture.

You might think the show is exaggerating sometimes but it's really not.

That's an ecumenical matter.

Anyway sorry to let you guys know but I'm afraid the show is 'cancelled' as Graham Linehan is one of those dreaded TERFs. Please delete it from your memory.

Funny, I was just thinking about this show today, specifically the racist episode with the perfectly square piece of filt

"You show em father! The feckin Greeks, they invented gayness!" 😂

Such a brilliant show and so of its time.

Still bring out the box set every now and then and chill to a few episodes (and then the laughing starts)

Such a sad end, with the lead passing away on the eve of the (what turned out to be) final series 😢

I love Graham Linehan. The man is a god of comedy, the kind of genius who comes along very rarely. My life's greatest achievement is having him follow me on Twitter.

There's far too many funny parts to post out one.

Eurovision entry though was the best. It was a piss-take on Ireland winning too many times and wanting a shit song and lose.

Pro women rights?
