Fighter: Street Fighter II: I grew up with it. And I still play it occasionaly.

First Person Shooter: Red Faction: The second one sucked, but this one was amazing when it came out.

Adventure/RPG: Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past: I wasn't sure where to put this, because I'm not sure what it'd be classified in exactly, but it's my favorite game of all time.

Strategy: Final Fantasy Tactics: Assuming that counts. If not I'd go with BroodWar

Shooter: Ikaruga: Woo!

Platformer: Super Mario Bros. 3: Mario > Others, and this just happens to be the best Mario game.

Gun game: LA Machine Guns; runner-up: HotD1

XS, I'd give you a resounding "eh" in the taste department. Picking Shenmue II really drops my estimation of your videogame taste, putting you square in the fanboy camp, and picking Grandia II over Xtreme when Xtreme has a vastly better implementation of the combat system (and you indicated your preference for the combat) makes me a bit suspicious of your overall gaming experience, especially when it comes to any content on Sony consoles.

On the other hand, you did pick MUSHA and Border Down over fan favorite chum like Axelay and Einhander, so seriously props there. Overall, I take you as a Dreamcast/Sega fanboy, and I probably won't take your impressions of games too seriously relative to mine, unless it's about shooters.

Happy? Of course not -- I'm a jerk!

By far-beatemups. I'll play them all-the good and the bad, doesn't matter,I will play them all the way through. From the lows such as Soul Fighter-to the highs like Streets of Rage and Buffy the vampire slayer, this genre owns me.

So much so that I'm currently playing Hunter Redeemer,Streetfighter of Rage, and unfortuntately-Chaos Bleeds. Damn you Eurocom,The Collective would skin you alive for this last one. :D

Fighing: VF3 TB

2D Beatemup:Streets of Rage

3D BeatemUp:Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb. Somebody should start watching the Collective abit more, they truely have mastered this genre,in 3D anyway.

RPG: Panzer Dragoon Saga

Racing: Daytona Online DreamCast Edition

3D Adventure: Blood Omen/Legacy of Kaine series

2D Adventure: Super Castlevania 4 (SNES)

3D/FPS Shooter: Tie between PowerSlave,DOOM,Halo,Panzer

Dragoon series

2D Shooters: Contra 3 Alien War

2D platformer Sonic 2

3D platformer..its rough but I would give the edge to Mario
64,followed by Sonic Adventure. Both rock.

Sports:World Series Baseball 2K1,no fielding, sure ok,I moved on past that though. Cause the game had one of the best hitting and pitching engines around, still does actually.

Survival Horror - REmake or Silent Hill 3
Beat em up (included just to cram another Treasure game) - Guardian Heroes

Personallly disliked 'Sacred Cows' in my favorite genres:

RPG: FF8
SRPG: None really, but I have to say FFTA didn't really impress me much
FPS: I never understood the love single player Half-Life got. I understood the multiplayer love, though.
Shooter: R-Type, although I love R-Type Delta and Final
2d Platformer/Action: Anything Gamefan hyped in the past. Randomly, let's just say, oh, Herme Hopperhead. I also never met a Sonic game that impressed me.
3d Platformer/Action - Jak 2? Banjo Kazooie? Yeah, Banjo Kazooie. I just knew collectathon games would become a problem after first playing that.
Music - None really. For me at least. I'm sure if I were living in Japan I'd be surrounded by insipid examples.
Survival Horror - The Resident Evil series 'got old' for me sometime between RE3 and REZero (exception: REmake). I can't pinpoint the exact game. I played them all but finihed none.
Beat em up - There's a lot of awful ones (see anything released in the 16 bit era with the word 'Jaleco' on the box) but not really any bad 'sacred cows.'

Well I'm not as much of a Sega fan as I was a Sega console fanboy, if that makes sense. I can't think of many current Sega titles I'm interested in playing. But I did pick Shenmue II after playing through PS2 adventure faves like Ico and Onimusha 1+2, so there.

I just bought a used PS2, so I'll need time to get familiar with what I missed on that platform. Only games I have right now are Castlevania LoI and.. Enter the Matrix (part of the used package)

Eh, and picking Grandia II over Grandia is a travesty to me. I can't think of a single thing II, or Xtreme for that matter... did better than the original. And Xtreme was broken IMO. Sure it has a little more bells and whistles for the combat (double/triple specials were kinda neat), but the basics are still pretty much present from the original. Plus, although the battle system is what makes the Grandia series superior from 99.99% of other RPGs out there, Xtreme kinda took away everything else that made Grandia more than just a combat game.

On the other hand, you did pick MUSHA and Border Down over fan favorite chum like Axelay and Einhander, so seriously props there.

Hey, I'm the only poster in this entire thread who thought Axelay was the best of the genre. I'm not ashamed of it, really. But I admit I still have Border Down, Psyvariar 2 and Shikigami no Shiro 2 right next to me, all sealed. Oh, and MUSHA was just... alright.

MUSHA isn't merely "alright," it's my all-time favorite shooter! (ie the thread topic) But you're right, the game doesn't ramp up in difficulty until Level 6 or 7.
