I'm not going to argue about something as subjective as music but Hardwired has all the speed and fire and chunk of the old stuff. I'd put Spit out the Bone up there with anything on the first four albums. Hell, I'd put it above all their fast stuff on their first four albums. Do you also dislike Ozzy? He's just an old dude now. Slayer? They are old. Any band that started in the eighties or sooner is old now. Also Papa Het is infinitely better than his prior persona of drinking on stage and calling his audience dicks lol.
My issue with them isn't that they're old. And it's not even so much that they changed after Justice. It's what they changed into, how they changed into it, and who they allowed to captain the ship while they made the change.

They went from a band who shit on the mainstream, only to go mainstream, a band who shit on music videos only to make a couple dozen of them, and a band who shit on glam bands like Bon Jovi and Motley Crue, only to hire their fucking producer (Bob Rock) to lead them through the sellout process.

I don't care that they're old. I'm old. And I don't care that they changed. It's that they changed into something that absolutely betrayed everything they claimed to be, along with the fans who believed those claims.

And it probably never would have happened had Cliff not been killed. :(

This a 20 year old argument lol. I respectfully disagree. Unlike Duellist Duellist you at least laid out your point concisely and never claimed it to be fact lol. The black album was written before Bob rock ever came on board. They have demos of those songs in the 80s. It was monumentally successful and they became mainstream sure. Why is that bad thing though? They still make the music they want to make.

The black album was serviceable. Everything after was pure shit, imo.

What? You haven't heard the fact that all those bands suck? Get with the times man
Must of missed that one lol. In all seriousness though my thoughts are a lot like catfish's and it's just my opinion. That string of albums after Black up to death magnetic were such a departure from what they were and what they claimed to be against in their early days it was just seen in a lot of people's eyes as a money grab. I don't fault them for it really because we all would of done the same thing lol. They have, however redeemed themselves in my eyes with death magnetic and hardwired. Is it the old stuff? No, but it's still pretty decent. Just wish they would of thrown a bit more speed into hardwired cause man when I heard spit out the bone for the first time I shed a fucking tear. I Totally got a Dyer's eve vibe from it. I do stand by my old hetfield is better than new though. Not saying he sucks now the dude is old. But no frontman comes close to touching Het in the early days imo.

What's your favorite song Duellist Duellist ? Now that we understand each other I'd like to hear your opinion lol
Lol, cant pick one. It's like asking me to pick my favorite Maiden song(my favorite band). Way to hard. Some of my favorite songs though:
Battery
Fight fire with fire
Trapped under ice
Orion
Dyers eve
Four horseman
Sanitarium
Disposable hero's
Damage inc
Imo there is not a bad song on any of the first 4 albums and they are all fucking god tier.

I tried, man. They just sound like a bunch of old dudes trying to recapture an attitude they abandoned decades ago which, of course, is exactly what they are.

I’m pretty much in the same boat. I can listen to Kill em All and Ride the Lightning all the way through. And justice for all I enjoy but not nearly as much as the other two and simply don’t like any of the rest with the exception of spit out the bone which really reminded me of the old stuff.

It’s hard to pick one. I’ve been a dad for over 25 years now, even was a big member of the Metallica club in the late 90s.

if I had to rank my top 5:
1. Masters of puppets
2. Welcome home (sanitarium)
3. The four horsemen
4. Blackened
5. One

honorable mentions:
The thing that should not be
seek and destroy (my favorite intro riff ever)

I don't think death magnetic has aged well, people were more forgiving of it because they went back to thrash metal after a long time of being more mainstream blues rock and chasing numetal.

Hardwired to self-destruct on the other hand is a great return to form.

Fade To Black, best song ever. 'nuff said

Oh yeah, and pretty much any other song from the first 4 albums rock too.
