Favorite Stage in Mario 64?

Rainbow Ride for me, of course. that level was pure genius. ^_^.

Or maybe Tall Tall Mountain. One of those two

the bowser levels, really. i'd have a hard time picking a standout from the standard levels...they're almost all great.

Yeah, the bowser levels are my favorite as well. The spirit of 2D Mario games mixed with a 3D perspective.

Goddamn you stumped me. There are a few levels that I'm not all that excited about but there a lot of levels that I love for wholly different reasons. It's like trying to pick a favorite child, each one is special in it's own different way.

I'm a big fan of Dire, Dire Docks. I'll never forget when I stumbled across the
underwater city.

edit: Are there really people who haven't played this yet?? :lol By the way I meant Wet - Dry World, but DD DOcks is awesome too...

But for sheer platforming fun nothing beats the clock level

I'll go with Dire Dire Docks, climbing up the inside of the ship provided a pretty difficult challegne.

I can't remember any of the names but I loved the sky castle level because of it's gameplay. I choose the first level of the game however, because it will stick in my memory forever. It was the first true experience with a whole new world of gameplay. I was completely blown away by it.

IAWTP. There are much better levels in the game but this level is probably the first thing I think of when I hear Mario 64 mentioned. I'll never forget throwing the King Bob-omb off the mountain with the camera panning waaaay back and showing the immense scope of the level. Just awesome!

As ppl have mentioned, the Bowser levels ROCK. Really awesome music too. A new Mario game should have a nice mix of these levels as well as big levels.

The first snow stage. I like winter and I like the music in that level, it's a winning combination. Level design is also better than the second snow stage.

I'll give my tip of the cap to the first stage for the same reasons. What an amazing feeling that was playing it for the first time.

Anyone else got the main theme stuck in their heads right now?

Da da da dadadada. Da da da dadadada. Dadada dadadadada doo dadadada.

I really like the first stage and the bowser stages are really fun.

Besides, am i weird for really liking the dual hand mode in this game.
I tried the D-pad and didn't like it, tried the thump strap and loved it.
But the dual hand mode with the stylus is really handy.

Anyone else play the game this way?

I like to switch it up depending on the situation I'm in. Usually I play the DS while I work on the PC so I have a desk handy and I play Dual-Hand mode that way. When I'm in the bed or on the couch I play using the D-pad. I prefer the stylus over the thumb strap however, I don't like stretching my thumb out in order to have decent space to move.

Touch mode with stylus works for me.

The clock & the first level, I think. My greatest Mario moment was getting like the 119th or 120th star in the clock level after falling from the top to the bottom of the level and somehow landing on a teeny tiny block without dying.

Maybe now you will stay it forever?

Anyways dont really remember all the stages or the names. But i quite liked the one with the sunken ship and another one which name i forgot.

I just LOVE the music in Holly Roger Bay. One of the best traks in a game EVER.

I will never forget the day I plunged head first with mario on the lake for the first time. My all time favorite moment in my gaming history *tear rolls down right cheek*

I really think a lot of you are intentionally disavowing the first level, simply because it's the most obvious choice. I fail think any platformer has acheived the greatness of Mario 64's first level.

Well sorry for asking, i was just curiuos.
Been lurking these boards for years and just recently picked up on posting.

Ontopic: just played some more Mario 64 DS, and yep the bobomb stage tune is in my head.
Very catchy indeed.

I don't know about it being my favorite stage... but on Whomp's Fortress, the way you had to jump kick the wooden plank to knock it over and use it as a bridge blew me away as far as interaction with a 3D world.

35 more posts to go buddy! I know you can do it!

Oh, and am I the only one that likes putting Tick Tock Clock at maximum speed and see if you can make it to the top?

DS Mario has some new stuff right?

I love the first stage

Dire Dire Docks is also cool

Can you get to the top of the castle roof without the cannon?

Think of it as a state of mind not as a post count. Being an infamous/famous poster will also net you a customized tag by the mods. Well unless you do something outrageously stupid then you'll get a mean tag.

Yes, it has been accomplished with every character other than Wario.

would Luigi be the best one to use to get to the top of the castle without the cannon?

I just want to try all the classic tricks and secrets of Mario 64 that I have missed out on

Fucking all of them. Best level design of all time. No game will ever be better.

I can't do the speed run - NO WAY - my goal is just to get to the roof without the cannon

I wish I could see a vid of someone doing that so I can get a better idea how to pull it off :)

Mario 64 still is the Best game ever for me

Best level ever = Snowman's Land. There's so many places for glorious impromptu Mario acrobatics, it's ridiculous. A series of flips and jumps chained together, then you fall off the side of the rope bridge, so you think you're going to die...until you catch a lucky gust of air and spiral into the sky like a bird, before finally plummeting into the snow - where you land in it headfirst. Awesome.
