I got a soft spot for Historical Fiction, always will. I love to see fictional takes on past history. Actually a goal of mine is to write a Historical Fiction novel, not sure on what topic...doesn't really matter, there's a lot of room. Great genre of literature.

BTW, read Musashi.

I love William Gibson for Sci-Fi, Pattern Recognition is fucking brillant, Dostoevsky for Classics, and Brian Greene for Science.

I also read philosohy books, but that's my major.

Horror.

Old heroic tales - Beowulf (BEST POEM EVER, NO SISSY POEM FOR SURE!), Arthurian legend, that sort of thing.

Religious prophecy sort of stuff. I'm just intrigued by that wacky stuff.

did you read the epic of gilgamesh? it'd make a great concept metal album.
anyway...i like 20th century american literature by hemingway, fitzerald, and their contemporaries and kurt vonnegut. i like late 19th and 20th century russian authors like chekhov and tolstoy.
i also like hardboiled noir stuff, and general msytery novels by agatha christie etc.
i also enjoy sci-fi, fantasy and espionage novels, started with the classic stuff by asmov, clarke etc but now i read contemporary stuff like china mieville and alastair reynolds, george r. r. martin obviously.
