FF 7DC & PSU Famitsu scans

PSU is going to be awesome. Here's a scan of the SUV weapons

I'm starting to think FF DoC won't be all that bad :)

I'm in total shock at the amount of potential quality titles which are going to hit the PS2 in 2006. 2006 could surpass 2004. Amazing. After a lackluster 2005 for the PS2 I figured the system is on a downward spiral. Definitely not the case. 2006 is looking amazing for the system. Perhaps its best year yet. The number of PS2 games I buy in 2006 may reach double digits. I have not bought so many PS2 games in one year before.

... Isn't it a single player game?

There is both. The classical single player RPG with storyline, and the online components. I don't play online so I'ill get it for being the first Phantasy Star offline RPG in a long time.

Eh? 2005 was pretty much about equal with 2004 for the PS2 and 2006 should be about the same level as well.

US 2004 was something like MGS3, GoW, GTA:SA, and others.
US 2005 had SoC, DQVIII, DMC3, and others.
US 2006 gets KHII, FFXII, Okami, VP2, and others.

Jpn was pretty much the same but 2005 got Ryu Ga Gotoku, Tales of the Abyss, and KH2, making 2005 an even stronger year than 2004 possibly.

PS2 has been on a roll since like 2002 and hasn't slowed down one bit.

Man I can't wait for PSU. My brother and I have been playing PSO for GC a lot lately and the game still rocks. I am sure we will have a blast with this one too, plus the inclusion of a full fledged single player game makes the waiting even harder!

December in Japan alone for the PS2 is pretty staggering. MGS3S, KH2, Tales of the Abyss, Front Mission 5, Ryu ga Gotoku and Rogue Galaxy.

Still keeping my fingers crossed that the offline game in PSU will be worth playing ... I have no interest in the online portion, but I'd be delighted with a new offline Phantasy Star game ;)

I don't live in Japan so many of the 2005 games you list are coming out in 2006. ;)

2006 potential purchases for me:

PSU
FF7:DoC
Rogue Galaxy
Kingdom Hearts 2
Final Fantasy 12
Grandia III
Disgaea 2
Starcraft Ghost (Since it probably won't run on 360)
Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence
Valkyrie Profile 2
Okami

and more....

Personally, I have not bought this many PS2 games since 2001. I thought 2005 for PS2 was its low point, because we don't have many of the December releases yet. PS2 bouncing back in a big way in 2006. Interestingly, after buying a 360 I feel myself being pulled back into the Playstation family. I want more PS2 titles in 2006 than 360 games at the moment, which is a crazy thought if you would have asked me this 6 months ago. The fact that every single game I listed will more than likely work on Playstation 3 on day one gives me comfort in knowing I'll still be able to play them on PS3.

Devil Summoner, VP2 and PSU are my most anticipated titles of 2006. wow what year 2006 will be for PS2. best console ever? I think so.

Yeah. I really enjoyed my X360 for about a month, but now I've gone back to PS2 (and DS as well) and at this point there's very little I'm looking forward to for the X360 versus the dozen titles or so that I'm looking forward to on the PS2.

I've always said and I'll stick to the idea that it takes about a year for a system to really exist. You get a nice launch but then a long dry period and finally about 10-12 months later games really start coming out and the system suddenly becomes active. This is really the first generation transition where the gamers will win because of the time gaps.

-Xbox 360 dead period until say Oct-Dec 2006 will be covered by tons of high profile PS2 games
-PS3 dead period after launch until say summer 2007 will be covered by hopefully a stready stream of good X360 games (and maybe some PS2 stuff as well)

Then in mid to late 2007 we should see the real start of the next generation with both X360 and PS3 active and having good games coming out monthly/weekly.

So it does feel kind of wierd because next-gen has started already and many of us have it sitting in our living rooms. Yet it's really not going to start in an 'active' sense for another 1.5-2 years maybe.

LOL @ all the DoC optimism. Have you guys ever -- i mean EVER -- played a good Japanese shooter than wasn't on rails.

I've heard its Masashi Hamazu, but i'm not completely sure.

That would be fantastic.

As much as I hope Kitase brings Uematsu on for some tracks w/ FFXIII, I'd love to have another Hamazu/Nakano FF soundtrack. FFX's was glorious. :)

They had 3 composers on FFX, i'd like to see that happen again. A FF with Kitase directing, Naora doing the art, with Mitsuda, Shimomura, and Hamazu doing the music would be amazing.

Again, I'm in the extreme minority, but I'd love to see Naora take the 'character design' position (as well as location designs with Minaba or someone new) with FFXIII, leaving Nomura to do other projects. :)

Bah. Uematsu's work was wonderful as always and Hamauzu was pleasantly surprising, but I found Junya Nakano's contribution to be uneven and unemotional.

I'd prefer it if Uematsu did at least the major themes, but I don't actually know what his status at S-E is anymore.

from what I understand, Uematsu's freelance now, like Amano is (and has been for a long, long time).

If Kitase asks him to come do some songs for FFXIII, I'm sure he would. Square's money is still good money. ;)

I loved Nakano's atmospheric songs, ala Guadosalam. Awesome song, IMO.
I loved the composers tag-teaming on FFX's final battles, as well. Great stuff.

I'd like him in the character design position also. He already showed that with FM4 he can handle realistic character designs, but in a different flair in comparison to Nomura.

Different strokes, I guess. :)

It wasn't all bad, but I just thought it didn't touch Uematsu. After 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9, Uematsu has established such a freaking legacy that I get protective. :lol

Which is good. I've never gotten into that guys music. I've looked a few themes here and there but not a full soundtrack. Having him do a song or 2 is the best thing to do.

I completely agree. It especially ticks me off with the people already saying junk like "I'm glad Uematsu's not on FFXII! Sakamoto 4 LIF3!"

The absence of Uematsu on FFXII (if that is indeed true) will be a significant negative for me.

Naora would be fine if he can learn to control the noses. Otherwise, no. I wouldn't want all my FF characters to look like trolls.

It's not their fault that he's overrated. :P

Deep....burn.....

Uematsu is the best composer of the video game generation. Otani (I think that's how you spell it...SotC) can be his successor if he keeps it up.

Even for composers that are generally linked to 1 series I wouldn't even say he's the best. Sugiyama DQ compistions are way ahead of what Uematsu has done with FF's imo. But the FF series is really one of the best ways to gain a name and this will likely make Sakimoto pretty big which he deserves.

Again, different strokes. That's cool.

Haven't done a ton of DQ. I liked DQ8 a lot and I think the minor themes are really impressive and much better than most of the minor FF themes, but Uematsu's hallmark themes are just the greatest. I just bought 20020202 (see FF4 thread) and I think Uematsu's ability is unparalleled.

Eh, just my opinion. I quite like him. :D

What else has Naora done?
Off the top of my head, he's worked on:

Code Age: Commanders -- Director (I can't say I know his involvement in the other Code Age projects...)
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children -- Enemy & Locale Designs
Final Fantasy VIII -- Locale & Vehicle Designs
Final Fantasy X -- Fayth Statue, Locale, & Preliminary Concept Designs
Front Mission IV -- Character & Locale Designs
UNLIMITED Saga -- Character & Locale (well, static images really :P) Designs

Since Naimoka is down, the only other archive with his work is for Final Fantasy stuff only, which you can find here.

It's also worth noting that the "Final Fantasy X Diğer Artworkler" section with a "?" as the artist is also his work (as far as I know, at least), and contains the preliminary concept designs for FFX. It's interesting to look at, if only to see that Tidus was not only created by him, but was also only slightly altered by Nomura.

Code Age: Commanders -- Director (I can't say I know his involvement in the other Code Age projects...)

Producer & concept designer for the overall Code Age project. CA Commanders project director was Toshiyuki Itahana.

Front Mission IV -- Character & Locale Designs

Characters only as far as I know...?

Also:

FF6: background graphics
Chrono Trigger: background graphics
FF7: art director
Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song: art director, character design
Front Mission 5: character design

He also made small contributions to Vagrant Story, The Bouncer, and a couple other things I can't remember at the moment (maybe FFTSW). He's credited as a visual supervisor for Dirge of Cerberus as well.

FF7 DC is looking badass, I'm getting Omega Boost vibes from it for some reason, it's that "hardware mastery" era at the end of a Sony system's lifetime, it's hot.
