Oh for fucks sake! There goes $70 down the drain, now I'm afraid to even use the damn thing. I just got so desperate because I find the XB1 d-pad to be complete shit.

Nah, that's all old stuff. The Cronus guy even posted in the comments. Might be fine now!?

I see the Brook converter mentioned more often, though.

There are people that like SFV story mode. MK9/X are both a lot better than that.
Sure and they are all bad stories. Like, I'm not saying dumb slockly stuff isn't fun to watch. But that doesn't make a series 'good'. The writing, dialogue, and pacing for fighting game story modes are still subpar compared to even the relatively poor video game stories at large.

I haven't seen the Guilty Gear or BlaBlue stuff, so I guess I'm going through a trip on YouTube this weekend.

the story modes in fighting games are like the event comics of Marvel and DC, which are never the best stories. The cast are too big for more than a couple people to stand out as archtypes, let alone actual characters. The plot, as it is, is more about moving the various chess pieces around on the board for them to fight each other.

Isn't the Brook adapter the popular choice now? Why choose Chronus?

Cronus tries to do everything. Brook stuff only converts to one console.

That said, I'd never buy Cronus given their support history compared to Brook's. Brook will have your firmware update within 24 hours when stuff breaks.

Neat, they'll have a fix next week. Here's hoping to significant improvement of the netplay.

I'm guessing if you're invited to someone's lobby 1 v 1 it's running OK?

At the moment it's very hit or miss outside of party battle (3v3 matches with 6 players), which is working very smoothly for a lot of people.

Pretty hilarious that the mode that was easiest to screw up is working the best. Seems some kind of bug is messing with the other modes.

Things should perhaps normalize when something is worth talking about. Saying SF5 sucks can go only so far and Smash will soon do something.

We can talk about Soul Calibur and it's path down "current anime" with it's character designs and universe vibe, haha.

I have been playing some SC5 again (cause I love Calibur), and thinking about what I want for a sequel and what direction I personally would like it to go character/universe design wise.

I have always loved Wuxia movies and I wish they would pull more from there for more new character inspiration. I would love a mix of Wuxia and some dark fantasy. Plus this thread has been giving me more media to watch as well. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1268724

Overall though, I just picture this game as a love letter to weapon/warrior/hero/myth culture from different eras. Like I would like a 300 type character with a Dory weapon and somebody using a Zulu assegai, or a character rooted in the Polynesian islands. of course this needs to upped to acceptable fantasy game level, but I would like to see more of that.

The weapon designs and move sets I like, but I have problems with the character design they are attached to. I like the concept of Zwei's weapon and move-set, but I don't like the design of the character really.

For Mitsu, I wish he would have more pre-set alternative outfits with different detailed samurai armor and masks and helmets. I wish Siegfried had more pre-set armor. Cover his face up, get some suits on him. A step above the customization pieces they have.

I've already talked about how I want Guts in as a guest, but I really want somebody from Samurai Shodown, or Ninja Scroll or something (that's a different anime to me ;) ).

I'm rambling though. I just want SC6. And a new samurai shodown.

P.S., namco, make a star wars fighting game.

So I guess floating top players is just standard operating procedure for Smash tournaments now?

It's not. Shine's just doing it for a not great reason.

(Some top players said they couldn't get Friday off of work, so the Shine TOs made it so those players wouldn't have to play until Saturday.)

...start the tournament on on Sat if this is an issue?

989 players for Melee Singles
482 players for Smash 4 Singles
252 teams for Melee Doubles
116 teams for Smash 4 Doubles
They're also running Smash 64 singles and doubles.
They're also running a Melee crews tournament and a Smash 4 crews tournament, Pokken, and amateur brackets for Melee and Smash 4 singles.

(Source for numbers: https://smash.gg/tournament/shine-2016-1/brackets)

Running it in 2 days is at least possible, maybe. Pound did it with similar numbers but without the open-entry crews tournament, without the amateur brackets, and without Pokken. However, Pound's schedule was incredibly tight, and it was extremely punishing for the Smash 4 players, who had to get from 513 down to 16 in a day.

I get there are scheduling challenges, but floating shouldn't be the solution. It's just a way too easy out for TOs and it goes against what an open bracket is supposed to be.

Xrd's story mode is more like a pack-in anime ova, like the one that came with the original SFIV release, expect they put it in the game.

Speaking of which, why the hell won't this game let me play the story mode DLC. Steam is telling me I have it. I click play it on the steam page, which just puts me in the game. And in the game, it's just greyed out.

It's a separate download. There's also a glitch with steam, you have to set the story mode to download or something before it actually down loads.

The bigger challenge in Shine's case is monetary. A few weeks back, the head TO came out and said that he put a lot of his own money on the line for this tournament and he's hoping not to end up too much in the red. This probably explains all the extra games like Smash 64 and Pokken, as well as their desire to get as many top players to attend as possible. Also Shine, like Genesis, is being held in a convention center, so that doesn't help matters.

Ironically, making it two days likely would've been better for them financially: One fewer day on the venue rental, and probably a good deal more attendance from working Smashers.
