Yeah, I think that would be more interesting too...but you're probably right about the viewers.

Justin Wong/FChamp/Combo/PR_Balrog(well, he's not that strong anymore lol) would be free wins unless they're facing each other.

His point earlier on was that people demonizing John Nelson isn't helping anyone and the positive things he was doing (more money, basically) were just being overshadowed by all the negativity making it not constructive. He also put the TO on blast for some inconveniences and bad decisions too though.

Still, since he's getting paid, much of it was "I want more Revelations so I can cash bigger cheques."

Then the other dude countered with the focus on money is ruining the FGC, EVO wasn't founded for the money, etc.

It would have helped the KOF dudes from wasting their time. They sure as heck werent getting positive things from Nelson it sounds like.

The KoF situation is so weird. I don't even know what to think of it.

On one hand, it's some purely comical stuff, reminds me of some cowboy kind of moment where one dude is like SHOW ME THE MONEY or else we bounce. Especially when there was an elected player and/or a representative. It sounds surreal. I mean good on them to question the legitimacy of TL but they went about it all weird. Asking for them to show something, in amounts he will have to pay out by cheque anyways, and put it in their hand right then and there unless they walk out, just seems like the wrong way to do it. Make him sign a contract or agreement to the players or something.

On the other hand, I think it's fucking awesome that they said fuck this event and went and made their own and had fun while still playing the hell out of the game. Still fucked up some didn't get their vote so to speak (i.e. Combofiend) and got fucked over by the vocal people in the community, and now everyones still potentially in another disadvantageous situation where they may not get their entrance fees back anyways.

Of course this is all just from what I've picked up as an outsider. Really is the strangest thing.
 
I really can't articulate just how cringeworthy it is to me when I hear well-meaning but star-struck saps like James Chen go on about how much more money they wish top players were making.

I don't know about how things were exactly since I wasn't there at all but IIRC at the time the KOF people took their decision the stream/tweets all said that the $5k into $500 downgrade was happening(at least at that point). I should leave this to The Answer. Ilumínanos mano! :D

This is what I basically heard.

500buck rumor gets spread. Capcom heads freak out at the venue, makes situation worse on twitter-verse/forums. KOF heads heard about it via rumor and just believed it due to TL's already bad stigma and basically came up with the proposition after hearing about the SFxT rumor.

1 of the staff (not John Nelson) told them the pot was cut down to $500 cause it didn't have enough entrants. Guys like Justin and Champ got angry, and told that guy to bring John Nelson down, they wanted to hear it from the source, and clarify that the pot was guaranteed. John Nelson said that it was indeed $5000.
It was resolved within a couple of minutes or so, but some people already got their tweets out, and it blew up from there.

The players also wanted some Contract of sorts that they will payed as promised, not just the money. TL couldn't promise them the payout.

I think of it as a video podcast. I just put the video on my second monitor while I work/browse/play and tune out to it.

Also, I'm pretty sure this forum is about video games and discussion about it, so yeah..........
