Any filipino gaffers in the house???? What part of the Philippines were you born???? If you're born in another country please state which one. What makes us different from all the other Asians out there????

I'm a halfy, born in the US.

Dad was in the military, how else would I get here? Father retired in Alabama (of all the places!) I now live in the tampa bay area. There is a pretty good Filipino population here.

Mother moved back to the Philippines (Pampanga) a couple of years ago and hates it. She is selling her new home and maybe moving back to the states. Planning to go in December for the first time, hopefully the ticket prices won't be over 2k a pop.

Can someone pepper this thread with filipino women please? I feel that is the way that all nation-centric threads should go. With nationality substituted as appropriate of course... not just filipino women in every thread, that would be silly.

Actually, they're incredibly different. I know tons of Filipinos who hate being called Mexican by ignorant people.

speaking of which when i lived in bakersfield people had no idea what race i was and just assumed i was every asian race under the sun but filipino.

Partied a lot with Filipinos in San Jose. Good times. Also became friends with a F. girl at the uni.
Back then I felt like most of them were very conservative and pretty patriotic (a lot of them being in the military - women too). Apart from that, compared to Korean-, Chinese-, Vietnamese-Americans they seemed kind of "un-asian" to me (not looks, but attitude, hehe

my mom speaks tagalog. i once saw kids do those dance with sticks at a filipino party once. other then that i'm basically all americanized.

I went back a couple of years ago and holy fuck at the people crossing the street. Even worse are the drivers who don't care. I was in Makati and I was crossing an entrance going into an underground parking lot. It had a walk signal, and its signal was "walk" and a fucking car drives in front of me all of a sudden.

I can understand tagalog perfectly, but I can't speak it properly anymore. I make attempts sometimes, but I just sound so bad.

Well I was born in Quezon City but moved to Miami when I was 8 years old. While we do have an active community here in South Florida, it really pales in comparison to other places in the US since its all about the Hispanics down here (which I don't mind since I actually prefer to date hispanic women over pinays :X)

Toronto has a big Filipino community. My neighbourhood has a few, and you really just can't miss one if you're out walking around anywhere here.

I've never dated a Filipino woman, not out of preference but I've never really clicked with one. I have a couple of Filipino friends who recently moved here and they told me I'm too white washed for some of them. :\

I'm guessing most of the Florida communities center around the military bases.

California's the place to be - we're all over the damn place. I think Hawaii's right.

They generally have no issues with any particular race really. At least the ones in California.

I overheard this from my ignorant neighbors who party often and talk way too loud:

"Filipino; what is that, like, Mexican & Asian?" asked to one of the other neighbors (who is Filipino) who was visiting the party. I couldn't hear what his answer was, but it didn't sound like there was any correction being made.

I have no reason to believe this person was joking, I think they honestly walk around in the world thinking that is the case.
