I get what you mean. That's the kind of zealous nationalism that makes enemies, and Filipinos are in no position to assert themselves better than anyone else.
I'm just sad because I quite like them when I'm in the Philippines. But as soon as I get back home and see Filipinos on ah pair jobs here, there's a total lack of respect towards culture and traditions. We had a tradition for more than a decade about opening Christmas presents at a certain time, they broke it. They shake their heads and looks at each other like I'm weird when I say I don't believe in God and Jesus, and then try keep on talking to me about it. I have first hand experience with SU pairs sending presents back to their families they got from their host families while they lie and says they lost it. There's a bunch of Filipinos staying here illegally after their contract have ended and then criticize our people at the same time. Etc. etc etc.

I'm trying to be optimistic and all but wow it ain't easy.

I mean, after all I don't dislike Filipinos when I visit in the Philippines. So that's one thing. :D I'm still meeting Filipinos of course and having an open mind towards them when I don't know them anyway.

I find a trend that a lot of Filipinos turn sour and selfish when they go to a new country. At least, many of my naturalized relatives here in the US turned into awful people now that they have so much.

I need some recommendations on where to go in Cebu besides Oslob for the whale sharks.

I want like, turqoise water like cancun and crap. and white sand beach.

I actually just got home for work or I would look it up (and am off work tonight too) but when I get in I'll find one of my bookmarks and send it your way. I was watching a show on TV where the two brothers who travel the world and shit went to the PI and biked around and ended up going to some place to swim with whale sharks. The place they were at looked beautiful and I looked it up online and saved it in my bookmarks so I could remember to find it later and go there next time I am in the PI.
The name escapes me at the moment though. It might not even be near Cebu for all I know, I can't remember. But I will look it up Wednesday night when I get in.

I can't be optimistic about them. I love the Philippines but have a hard time with the people. I have lived in the Philippines as well and that experience didn't change my perception of them, it made it worse. They ALWAYS ask for money and everything even after I say no. There's no respect at all.

This is exactly what happened the last time my cousin visited. When he was still single, he never tells us when he'll be back. He will just suprise us and stays at home for the rest of his vacation and never goes out with the relatives.

His last visit was with his family and man it was tiring for them because they stayed at my grandmother's house. Relatives from both sides of the family wants a piece of them. They never came back after that.

So I looked it up. Those guys went to Pacijan Island.
I could have sworn those guys took some tiny little raft out to the island and there was some old, poor-looking village on it, they slept on the beach and went and swam with the whale sharks during the day. But apparently there are resorts on the island and stuff, go figure. I still want to go there though. White sands and coral inlets sound good to me. Some of the islands in that area have thresher and hammerhead sharks too, so it would definitely be a cool place to go.

A super typhoon with a wind strength equivalent to an exceptionally strong Category 5 hurricane.
It's gonna hit tomorrow :(

Checking with all Pinoy gaffers and praying that they'll be safe once the superstorm hits us!

They've already suspended classes almost everywhere in the Philippines - even in my province in Mindanao (Davao).

Sucks that QC isnt suspending classes, but I have to do work on my thesis so at least the library will be open.

Btw, that Miriam Santiago/Ace Attorney comic is gold

it's mostly visayas and mindanao that would be hit hard, though luzon would still feel the strong rain and wind

stay safe guys!

Hi, I'm full blown Filipino.

I don't understand the hate with Filipinos. Maybe bad luck on meeting people? One thing for sure is that if you know Tagalog every annoying 'tambay' won't be able to bother you anymore.

About the Filipino pride, yeah I find them cringe worthy but I seldom see them so I may be a minority.

Government is full of fuck, that I can agree with.

I think the bluntness can be off putting. Its a weird bluntness because on one hand its perfectly fine to ask someone if they're fat "Hey why do you eat so much" but on the other hand there's still that asian shyness.

As for Flip pride I'm not sure I get that either, then again I'm one of them so maybe my perception of it is off. It would be nice if people could provide examples.

I will admit that what insults westerners and what insults Filipinos can be different. Something me and my wife occassionally butt heads against on.

More than a thousand dead due to the massive typhoon? Damn. My father is on his way to our province tomorrow to check on his mini beach house and one of the family's oldest houses. Both near the sea.

Oh man, don't get me started on this one. Can somebody else fill in?

If I start explaining myself, it'll sound like a hate mail lol, and I don't wanna come across as somebody who generally hate anyone. But I can say, that I have been so beaten up inside by so many who just happened to be Filipinos, that I now have a hard time accepting myself as a half-Filipino, that I now get pro help.

My experiences come down to "Filipinos are very sweet people, but as soon as you disagree with them about the simplest of things, fire is in their eyes and war is on." Also: "Whenever you tell Filipinos something, it goes out the other ear. They're not listening."

And no, I don't understand Tagalog.

Philippines are the most interesting country in the south eastern asia to me.
I like their particular history and the landscape seems wonderful.

I'm going to donate some money to rebuild the areas afflicted by the tyhphoon

+1 to you dear sir. I would have done the same if I weren't a poor student.

Philippines is a wonderful country. I love the landscape too, especially in the North, where I feel like I can be myself and relax. I like going to the different beach areas and seeing interesting stuff. They got so much to explore.

I can understand looting medicine and food but many of these people were taking appliances and other merchandise. Sigh.
Wish we were more honorable like the Japanese during the earthquake.

HOLY SHIT.

Damn damn damn. It sucks and I hate it. I can't believe people are doing this instead of helping each other.

And that's a quality I hate about my countrymen, especially most of the poor folks. "We're poor/devastated so we will throw away any form of human decency!"

Had nothing to do today so I went with some friends to watch the movie She's the One with Bea and Dingdong... I'm probably gonna get ridiculed for this, but I loved it haha.

Picture quality was amazing, the message behind it had good intentions but of course the story is your typical Filipino romcom that ABS-CBN can churn out post haste. One of the most surprising things was that it had English subtitles! It wasn't necessary to me since I can still fully understand Tagalog but to see a Filipino movie here in Texas with English subtitles... ABS-CBN definitely get props for that.

The other surprising thing... the other main girl besides Bea, Liza I think, I was fawning over her the entire movie, then at the end of the movie my friend crushes my hopes and dreams. Turns out she's 15... -___________________________-

Anyway, it was a decent movie... reminded me of that series Sarah and John Lloyd are in. On the other hand I'm excited that Filipino movies are starting to be shown in the theaters here in Dallas. Used to be it was all East or West coast but now, I'm hoping they're gonna bring more besides the usual ABS-CBN stuff.

One More Chance is still my favorite Filipino film

All my friends in Cebu and Angeles are safe. Strong hearts and minds to get through the quake and the storms.

I've also heard some horror stories about foreigners in Thailand

Just stay out of Pattaya, certain places in Phuket, the Gulf islands during full moon and Khaosan area in Bangkok. The moron brigade tend to converge on those places.

Pattaya is a full blown human zoo. Foreigners go there on vacation to look and pick up Thai women and Thais go there on vacation to look at the foreigners acting stupid.

No, it wasn't like that at all.

The province there is going nuts. I hear because of food shortages people are becoming cannibals. Looting is just small thing compared to that.

ppl can go 3 weeks without food...i really doubt that canabalism report. unless filipino have no respect for themselves?

I'm just hearing rumors so I don't know myself. The only confirmed thing was the looting. It's also because of that marshal law was implemented.

It's probably an exaggeration though.

The worst thing that I heard is they eat dead animals.

Yolanda's damage is really bad. I really hope the government (the corrupted side) doesn't mess with the donations.

But they pretty much are (sadly).

Apparently donators are forced to get tax... unless you send them through a government agency. Doesn't sound corrupt at all!

Anyway speaking of corrupt agencies...

So I bought something from Amazon (a book) and, due to a suggestion from a friend, used JohnnyAir as a carrier service to bypass Philippine customs (because fuck them). That said, I'm also interested if there are other services similar to JohnnyAir.

Do any of you know the comedian/tv host Allan K?

Apparently he were here at the karaoke bar here in Denmark last night, and everyone went crazy, and I didn't understand it because I don't know him at all.

Anyway, I went chit-chatting with him and he told me to come to the Philippines and do modelling job lol, but it just ended up with him following me, because 2 girls were eager to get pictures with him.

Yup. Allan K is famous for his nose (and subject to most of his or his colleagues' jokes) here in the Philippines. He is a mainstay of a noontime show.

Anyone here ever visit the Pinatubo caldera? I have been on a volcano and tall mountain kick lately, reading a ton about them, and have decided to go to Taal and Pinatubo next year when I am in the PI again (or at least the plans are to go again next year, the wife and daughter are going without me in a couple weeks). I'm a bit bummed out that as of the beginning of this year there is no more swimming allowed in Lake Pinatubo. But reading about it and seeing pictures, and then reading about how eventually the caldera walls will be worn down and the lake will be no more, has got me really in the mood to get up there.

I've been doing some hiking and climbed a mountain up here in Greenland and have been taking a ton of pictures, so I look forward to taking my camera up there because the pictures of it look stunning. Taal is stunning too, to a lesser extent, but I mainly want to go up in that one just because I fell in love with Tagaytay when I was there and decided that is where I want to live. The pics make it out to look really good as well though.

I really would love to climb some of the tallest mountains and volcanoes in the world, but my health would never allow it. So I will settle for a bunch of the ones in the PI, because some of them have some cool history and because it seems like it is really cheap to do that kind of stuff there.

As far as I know, most Star Cinema releases have it.

I haven't heard anything about it but it is really bad at other places.

I haven't really visited it but they say it's really cool. Just keep your equipment safe from possible slides, falling, and drowning LOL

So where are some cool places to buy stuff there, like game- or anime-wise? Or anything else hobby-like? My wife leaves for the PI for a month in an hour or so and she said she will be on the look out for figure models. If I remember right, isn't there a store at SM South? I think I stopped in there and the only things I remember them having were a ton of the mouse-pads that have boobs for your wrist to rest on and a small metal buster sword maybe seven inches long or so that my wife ended up buying and mailing to me. I don't want to ask her to get a ton of stuff for me, but if there is anywhere that would have a ton of figure models, I want to point her in that direction. If her brother is home, he can probably name some places for her to go. But I don't know if he is there or somewhere else around the globe at the moment.

EDIT: Well, I'm talking to her over webcam at the moment, told her I knew some people to ask, she said okay, and after I tell her I asked she is saying "Oh, there's lot of store like that. I can find, just tell me what you want for pasalubong." If you guys have suggestions though for any 'must buy' things for her to bring back, I'm all ears. I already plan on having her mail me a bunch of dried mangoes; my supply is drying up.
