Final Fantasy IV (FF2) Advance first pic??

I don't know SE in depth, but I don't think this port proves the lacks of existense of FFIII DS. If anything, FFIV was due out on GBA back in 2002.

Since this is like their 3rd rehash, its time they should add new missions like they did with FF1/2 GBA.

They weren't very fun though, and made the game mind-numbingly easy (1 anyway). 2's added epilogue was cool.

wow, looks like I was not exactly sure. and I even own the ws version :~(

Oooh this makes me even more giddy. I played through the WSC version and like JackFrost said, it was mind-numbing to read. (Even though it was easier to look up words - once I figured out where the word begun and ended.) But that was two years ago. Makes me want to dig my WSC up and play it again.
Micro tie in would be Japan only, no? Cause I may have to get that, due to my rabid love for this game.

SARA NI ODOROKI NO SUKUUPU! (An especially surprising scoop!)

Okay, only if you don't read NOA's press releases, I guess.

I like that this is coming so soon though. December 12! In English! I'd like them to be similarly on the ball for the rest of Final Fantasy Port Project Make Daddy Enix Some Money, Dammit so we can get FFV and FFVI in English in 2006.

While there at it port FFVII to ds and make it the first multi cartridge game.. Thanks =[

(dreams.. dreams..)
Shit, they're doing Xenosaga on the DS, so stranger things have in fact happened.

I used to think they should port Before Crisis to DS, then I played it.

Before Crisis, any good?
I am pleased if Before Crisis ports to DS or GBA
for those people who are not living in Japan

Seeing as how I don't own a GBA, how do people think the sound (mainly music) quality will be on the GBA version versus the original SNES version? Same question will regards to any FFVI port - as those are two games that have amazing soundtracks on the SNES.

Shitty, no doubt.

Awful. The GBA has pretty shitty sound, unfortunately. The GBA's one failing, if you ask me, because the graphics and gameplay have been top notch. I think GBA outputs 22kHz sound, even, which is very sad.

I think 22khz might be possible if the developers can spare that much cart space and CPU to handle samples that big...but it's generally not something you'll see too often (I think Boktai 2 uses a few samples like that?). 11khz and under is the order of the day. :(

FF: DoS's music sounded a lot nicer than most GBA music, though (same goes for FFTA), so I'll be interested in seeing how much more quality Squenix can squeeze from the thing.

Well... for other handheld FF ports/remakes I'd like to see...

Final Fantasy III (GBA) kill the DS version, take it away from Kawazu
Final Fantasy V (GBA) easy port
Final Fantasy VI (GBA) easy port
Final Fantasy VII (GBA) redone entirely in tile/sprite based 2D, maybe an isometric viewpoint

Final Fantasy Tactics (DS) easy port
Chocobo's Dungeon 1+2 (DS) easy ports, easy money for Chunsoft

Chocobo Collection (de Dice/Racing/Stallion) (PSP) it needs something after all :P

Like jiji is hinting at, GBA itself has some other output problems, but sub 44khz is just a problem with CPU load (and the fact that, with GBA/SP speakers, clean sound output is kind of a waste). Unless you're using a shitty sound engine, 22khz is clearly possible for a game with a relative lack of CPU use (a category in which FFIV clearly fits). The problem then becomes samples versus frequency.

With a competent sound engine, FFIV would likely handle 12-16 channels at 16khz, or 8+ at 22.

It will probably be similar to Final Fantasy 1 & 2: Dawn of Souls. If you want to know how that sound just download the .gsf files, a player and take a listen.

Heh, be sure to compare it to the .psf files for Final Fantasy Origins, if you want to hear what the music is *supposed* to sound like.

The music in Dawn of Souls was excellent. There will likely be a little drop in quality but Square has never really let me down music wise on the GBA.

It'll probably be just the original version, I'd think. They didn't have Easy Type in the PS1 port did they?

Nope, the only version of Easytype there is is that SFAM cart. It was actually really fun to go through (I got game overed like 5x in the last place, and almost at the very end). Nice change of pace.
