Is that really fair, considering that Rare and not Square is based in an English-speaking country?
I dunno, neither are based in the US and Rare's not even a publisher anymore. Seems fair to me, especially given how much larger Square is.

It's almost 4 years since they first announced it.

Please forgive my nitpicking, but for the sake of accuracy FFXII was announced at least as early as January 2001:

However, as Bizarro Sun Yat-sen stated previously, reports indicate because the staff were involved in working on PlayOnline that development for FFXII actually began around the end of 2001:

One game every month? Place your bets.

I reckon:
Mar 24: Egg Monster Heroes
Apr 21: Romancing SaGa
May 26: Hanjuku Hero 4
Jun: Drag-on Dragoon 2
Jul: Final Fantasy XII
Aug: Musashiden II: Blade Master
Sep: FFCC DS
Oct: Final Fantasy III
Nov: Kingdom Hearts II
Dec: Dirge of Cerberus: FFVII
Jan: Front Mission V
Feb: Ambrosia Odyssey
And so, it begins...
Drag-on Dragoon 2 confirmed for June 16th today.
I reckon my FFXII theory is a bit off at this moment in time, though :)

Goddamnit, my heart can't take this. I forbid anyone from bumping this thread again until there is ACTUALLY SOME REAL FFXII INFO. >_<

It's not much, but

recent interview with Hitoshi Sakimoto
http://www.rpgfan.com/features/interviews2005/index4.html

Q: How is the development of Final Fantasy XII progressing? Have you already completed the recording of the music?
A: The game's development is still a work in progress. I can't comment on the status of the development, but as far as the music's recording is concerned, that was entirely completed last April. Regarding the songs which are created with the sampler (synthesizer), this work is not yet completely finished.

Ok Famitsu this week (streets Friday) states that NEXT ISSUE (streets next Friday, leaks next Wednesday) will have a "SQUARE ENIX BIG RPG HIGHLIGHT" whatever that means anymore. :D

If this is the real deal on FFXII, then I expect it to be in V-Jump too which will mean the information will leak tomorrow or the day after.

Maybe FF12, maybe something else!... what could it be???

Nah. That's not until 2006.

Maybe a DS port of Before Crisis online ZOMG?!?!?!??!?!??!?!?!?!?!

OMG EDITZ0R:

CHRONO BREAK?

Jonnyram if you are just making this up I will cut you

Seriously if that's what he is implying and it's not true I will come with you and hunt him down.

We should burn his house to the ground, see him dead, his family dead, and piss on his ashes if he's joking. Or maybe I just want a new Chrono game badly. Can't wait for the magazine.

well i think it is good that this game was delayed i have not been impressed by it so far, i want my FF to be awsome in graphics, story and gameplay.

the graphics in what we so far have seen is not up to my standars.

and the gameplay seems like shit!

and i dont like the style of the game, to much of men in stupid armor style.

i love FF IX and VI style alot more

That reads like an amazon.com consumer review.

If Square's doing a game that should have an animated look, they've got an engine to go to now for that.

If there's any new game announcements I'd expect it to either be the new Seiken Densetsu game(s), Code Age, Front Mission 5, or the rumored Ogre Battle DS. I'd be very surprised to see anything Chrono.

damn, kingdom hearts 2 is gorgeous. shames every crudely cel-shaded game there is. too bad it's kingdom hearts.

Famitsu Heftvorschau promises RPG announcement of Square Enix

23.03.05 - In the Japanese Famitsu the next week an announcement is to be regarding a game of roles of Square Enix. That comes out from the booklet preview of the current expenditure.

Which it concerns, is unclearly: It could be a new conception, the erscheinungstermin of finally Fantasy XII or also only a Preview to an already well-known play.

Latest 2ch rumour is that a number of programmers have been taken off FF12 to work on a game for another platform. Let the bickering continue...

Maybe it's done...?

I mean for a big rpg like FFXII the final few months are just going to be bug testing so they can afford to reduce their staff once the main game is complete.

But haven't you noticed how the "final few months" have been going on for over a year? Every time we've got within 3 months of the release date, it's slipped back 1 or 2 quarters :(

Jonnyram didn't post the ENTIRE rumor. The entire rumor says:

"Oh no! Notice how FFXII has no release date at all for 2005? Many of FFXII's main programmers have been taken off the project to work on a new game on another hardware platform. What's going to happen now....."

So yeah, the word is that the entire project is in trouble and the ship is completely sinking. :lol

The biggest problem is that this delays the entire series' progress. They can't really have FF13 come out before FF12, can they. And it's already been almost 3 years since 11.

.... :(

Hopefully the high point of this is that when the game finally comes out it will be the biggest, most epic rpg ever made :)

I'm still putting my money on a power stuggle between Matsuno-san and the Square brass being the delay's reason.

Squeenix board member: "You can't have a numbered FF game this dark, deep, and difficult!"

Matsuno-san: "That's why you gave me the job, wasn't it?"

I'm pretty sure the team is working hard on finishing Front Mission Online. It's due out in May and beta players are saying the game is dreadfully incomplete. The game's been behind schedule for a while, and let's face it, an FF game will shift millions regardless of when it goes on sale.

I wonder what the other platform they're working on is though :)

Maybe they're internally rushing FFXIII to replace FFXII which has unofficially been iced. :D

Zilch said:
Seriously, what do you guys think is happening behind the scenes? What can possibly be going so wrong?

I don't think it's something 'so wrong' as it is Matsuno being a person who thinks big. His ideas for the game may have been so grand that in execution it's just not possible. So you're stuck with having to ditch stuff or delay it. Since FF games are big and will sell whenever released, delay vs. incomplete has delay being the more believable choice.

Just what I think. I mean after all the praise of the E3 version I don't think they went 'oh no, we have to change the entire game!'.

I wouldn't be that surprised if FFXIII became FFXII and FFXII was delayed until next-gen and became FFXIII.
