Final Resident Evil Requiem previews are dropping in

OK, that singing lady is fucking nightmare fuel. Will wait to this hits its eventual kick ass sale closer to Halloween. I hot a massive backlog and I just started Village about a week ago.

People like the Sphere Hunter and Max, though? They've turned themselves into Capcom mascots, essentially. Suzi threw a fit about the Silent Hill 2 Remake and how he wasn't going to review "unoriginal, uninspired," works. Then to immediately give a reach around to the REmakes.
That was the exact moment I knew that this asshole was as fake as himself. Downplaying one remake just to suck off another company which is known for half assed remakes was enough for me to ignore that braindead channel. I rather watch asmon clean his house, even though I couldn't care less about that stupid ass either.

Not sold yet, hopefully it release not close to other interesting games because it could be the second re game that i don't buy at launch.

I'll be holding off for the VR version, I can't go back to flat screen Resi Evil after playing 4, 7 & 8 in VR absolutely shitting bricks, 2D horror games simply don't do it for me anymore.. I need to be in the scary basement now, fuck you Capcom if you don't have a team working away on this

Looks worse than the Monster Squad shit going on in Village.
Resident Evil needs a hard reboot without any legacy characters.
New timeline. New story. Same Umbrella.
Legacy characters aren't the problem - they're the best way to keep RE feeling like a solid franchise.
The problem is trying to make every new RE game's story connect to the existing RE stories.
Getting free of that will allow RE to do whatever works best without worrying about a complex overarching story.
RE can use the familiar characters in otherwise self-contained stories that work just like individual episodes of an episodic TV show.
RE will thrive as long as it has unique maps and unique NPCs to kill.
Umbrella's a massive MNC that has its hands in all sorts of different pies around the globe.

All RE has to do is go somewhere interesting and zombify the local people/wildlife/etc. (like RE 5)
Leon could travel to the Arabian Peninsula and battle regional monsters in Dubai.
Every location (Tokyo, Hong Kong, NYC, etc.) will have a slightly different base population to zombify.
Nebraska has different people than California and in California the suburbs will have different zombies than the city.
None of the characters ever have to age and some characters could easily be younger (Ada, Jill, etc.) makes skipping around to the 80s or 90s an interesting possibility.

The more I look at RE: Requiem, the more it feels like a polished rehash of Resident Evil 7 and 4. Don't get me wrong, both of those games are classics, but the overuse of the same ideas is starting to show. The hide-and-chase gameplay with Grace, the repeated hunter/stalker enemies in specific areas… it all feels recycled to me. Even having two separate characters—Grace for the creepy, menacing sections and Leon for the action-heavy parts—comes off as a safe attempt to appeal to everyone rather than being bold and trying something new. Overall, it just feels a bit long in the tooth.

But maybe it's just me getting older...

Maybe I'm wrong, but I remember Suzi saying with her RE4R review about hoping the next RE game being fully original instead of another remake even enjoying the game. Did Suzi change her mind?

Anyway, I don't care about these previews. As I expected, they barely add anything about the game to the little we already know. I heard statements about "the Leon part is not RE6 but RE4" and yet they barely elaborate anything about it. And videogame journalists are always crazy about a game "made for everyone".

The gun kata attacks and contextual killing moves and heavy action focus with Leon has more RE6 DNA then they would like to admit. It's pretty obvious that it's a RE4R and RE6 hybrid.
This happens if you trashed re6 since the beginning but can't bring yourself to criticize the new game for the same things lol. Bunch of losers, can't even stay straight.

Re6 was fun, it still is, so I don't see any reason not to compare those.

To be fair, Silent Hill 2 fans were, and still are, infinitely harsher on any new edition of SH2 compared to Capcom fans and RE.

One thing I am not happy after watching more footage is

Leon's reaction to the nurse getting killed, how the heck did he not see this happening? I could understand it if he was a rookie but as a veteran it makes zero sense, its completely out of character. I hope the writing of the whole game isn't as stupid and out of character like this cutscene

RE6 had cool animations but the controls, game loop, and gamefeel were atrocious. Also there were multiple campaigns(more than just 2) with a plot that was all over the place.

If they remake 6 years from now and somehow fix this, they can save that from being the biggest negative mark on the franchise.

Knowing Capcom, they might include an 'arranged mode' after completion to play as All Leon or All Grace.
This would erase my only negative point thus far. I hope they did gor ng+ and also stuff like inf. ammo.

Yeah, crying years for anything to be released just to shit on it after. Clowns.
The remake was fine, even extended instead of cut down like re remakes.

It's because P.T. was cancelled and they were left in limbo for a decade.

But I agree that instantly shitting on it is bad. As a matter of fact, Silent Hill has a Dragon Age issue, where people just like 1-2 games in the series and are negative on everything after (as evidenced by people constantly comparing every new entry to Silent Hill 2 instead of letting them be their own thing).

I would have just left both I.P. to lie six feet under.

Yep, this was the first thing that stood out to me too. How about save her from the first guy, just for her to run into another one who gets her, while leon is busy. But no, leon is aura farming lol.
There are people on reddit who try to sugarcoat it, instead of admitting capcom fucked up there.

Yeah, I really hope they will get around remaking this one as well. But for now, I am more excited for RE0 and especially Code X. I love these 2 games.

Yeah man, Leon had time to save her, I dont understand wtf Capcom was thinking here

After watching all of the previews I think this is my main problem as well. You could swap out the character models and locations and probably convince me this was a next-gen dead rising or dead island. Seeing that zombie bash it's head into the mirror felt and looked exactly like Bioshock. Hearing one of those journo's gleefully admit that really rubbed me the wrong way. Personally I don't want an inconsistent cocktail of elements from other franchises crammed into an RE game.

Even RE8 which I absolutely dreaded playing because of the mystical elements, turned out to be quite enjoyable because at the very least it seemed like a logical and consistent evolution of RE7.

This game really looks like Bollywood RE to me so far.

They keep wearing the RE4 glasses. Granted RE6 doesn't tell you about backwards diving and sliding and inputs that make you attack faster with different animations which really elevates the gameplay.

So when I see comments like ho wow Leon is much faster now and omg love it so much it's a walking contradiction when they lambasted RE6 for those things.

If there was something lacking in RE6 it's probably level design and until we see the Hospital map so far it's nothing special.

---------
A NG+ mode where you only play Grace or Leon would be great.

Raid Mode even better.

Letting the nurse die while armed to the teeth is kind of amusing since Leon is supposed to be a super professional but it might just come off as

If He Dies He Dies Rocky Balboa GIF

Her death could have been very avoidable...I think they are trying to recycle old campy horror film ideas. It's just not impactful since Leon is much faster and no reason not to save them.

She will probably become a zombie later.

I can see some people liking RE6 (not me), i know this entry has its fans. But yeah, trashing the game for so many years and now raving with the Leon part on Requiem feels weird. And it's not like "this is all we have" either, because indie developers are making lots of RE clones. The same with Silent Hill: so many years complaining about Konami making it more actiony, not rereleasing properly original games and copying SH2 "trauma" plot over and over again...but these things are all ok now because some reason. Again, I can see people not caring about it if they never did it before, but praising or excusing things after hate them for so many years?

Anyway...we'll see when it's released. I'm not hyped with this game, and I enjoyed most of RE Engine entries. I admit I wasn't enthusiastic with REmake 4 announcement either and I ended up loving it though. But I already enjoyed og RE4 despite its genre shift, unlike "games for everyone" as RE6 or Revelations, so...

I've always liked RE6. It's not insanely amazing or anything. It doesn't come close to the peaks of the franchise. But, it's solid fun for me.

I love how gory the game is looking. Also, the blood is, apparently, persistent and the zombie maid will clean it up. Quirky but fun little feature if true!

I will freely eat a big plate of crow for a possibly great game like I did with SH2R and I'm getting ready to pull out the fork and knife for this one.

That being said, the initial footage and this are such miles away, even for Grace's gameplay, that I don't feel bad at all about having trashed it prior. It looked like shit. This instead now looks more OG RE to me than anything since OG RE4, obviously not counting remakes. This is more "gothic horror" in setting again as well which does a lot of work for me, love the asylum/hospital setting and zombies. And Grace's ACTUAL GAMEPLAY now that they're finally properly been showing it, looks like RE2R and not RE7 to me.

Said it before but total 180 for me with all this new footage. I know it's kind of a Greatest Hits game again but it just looks fun in all this new footage.

I almost forgot, Romeo is a dead man launch is Feb 11. I might have two games this February on Ps5, Re9 and Romeo. Budget is ready for two AAA games in just one month. 😁

The cover is sick.

Would have been nice if they had a reversible cover or that lenticular one for the deluxe edition as well.

As it stands, folks like me who're getting that version will have a GIANT FUCKING GUN to look at.

I hope to see some lore and story with the zombies. Maybe an unlockable sidestory where we will get play them when they are not yet zombies and still fighting to survive.

If Resident Evil Requiem delivers on its promise, it won't just be one of 2026's biggest games because of its timing. It'll be big because it understands how to deliver fear to modern audiences, and crucially how to do it with restraint.

Sure, it's confident enough to come out swinging with Leon's more bombastic setpieces, but through new protagonist Grace it's bringing back the scares of what's unseen better than almost anyone else in the genre. In 2026, that's a rare position for a blockbuster to occupy.

You can't never make everyone happy no matter how hard you try….that's just nature for any game.

To me this game is looking phenomenal.
Lets be real here, its not like you have incredible standards when It comes to games.

I dont give a fuck what other people think of my "standard". I like what I like, if you dont like the games I like then thats not my problem.

It's weird that she was killed off so soon. I figured she'd have more of a role than dying right away. Also Leon not giving a shit was kind of odd. Could be he just knows she's bad if she works for Gideon.

am I a bitch if I play it in 3rd person?

NGL the motion sickness I felt from RE7 was kinda brutal. It's nice to have the option to nope out

but at the same time you lose the imersion.
