Firefox=overrated in my book, nothing wrong but I prefer Opera.

Do i have to un-install 1.01 before installing this? I hate it when i get seperate entries in add/remove for the same program but different versions.

uninstall both before installing. no data is removed.... all data/profiles/extensions are stored in the C:\Documents and Settings subfolder.

Opera needs to drop the ads in the free version if they want me to use their browser for any considerable length of time compared to Firefox. It's got a lot out of the box, and it's a hair faster than Firefox in terms of page rendering, but Firefox has it beat on extensions.

ad-aware professional blocks the popunders for me. I run it in tandem with firefox and i never get any popups or popunders.

So uh, does it block those goddamn pop-unders?

I used to think Firefox was invincible, but after getting many pop-unders the last few months or so, I'm starting to have a few doubts.

Basically, a pop-up which appears UNDER the window you are viewing, so when you close it there's all those damn little boxes to shoot down.

That's, uh, weird, but I've never seen such a thing with firefox. Checked dictionary.com and didn't notice anything. But thanks anyway. :]

Likewise, I've never seen anything like this with Firefox. Have you guys got pop-ups turned on or something? :lol

awesome for you.

I, however, don't want to have to run multiple programs to make sure I don't get popups/unders/wherevers. My internet browser should either block the pages from popping up automatically, or let me manually add to a list of sites that are not allowed to open in a browser window, and will automatically close out the browser/ be blocked like regular popups.

??? so you dont recommend updating through the browser?.. which is what i just did.

whats wrong with that?

Now that Firefox is final and it has the autoupdater, I don't think there's anything wrong with using the autoupdater (sometimes the updates come out a little later for the auto updater). Downloading the latest and installing may be problematic I guess.

I'm a bit dubious about uninstalling and installing the latest version - there was a bug in 1.0 that if you installed, it would wipe out your entire Program Files folder or possibly more.

question: what extension do I need to be able to search for a word just by typing it (instead oo going to Edit or Ctr+F)? I remember you could also press enter and go to the linked url if the word is a link like say a thread topic.

I thought this came with Firefox but after starting my new PC and installing firefox, I wasn't able to search like that. Same with 1.0.2...

Go to Options > Advanced > Accessibility and check "Begin finding when you begin typing"

Awesome. m(___)m

Edit: one more q...

Some toolbar bookmarks get 'stuck' with another site's icon. Like the gaming-age icon is on the ga bookmark and another bookmark... anyway to fix this?

I was going to make a new thread, but i might as well use this one. I downloaded Firefox last week(1.0.1), and I too prefer Opera(only using FF because my old ass computer was causing Opera to crash a lot due to memory issues). Anyway, are their any extentions to make Firefox "Opera-like", for instance, I really love Opera's "Paste and go" option. And also I like a "feature" that would seemingly be a given, but it's not in Firefox, which is being able to see how many images are to be loaded on a given page, how many are complete, and the rate at which they are downloading, down at the status bar. But Firefox only tells you that it's connecting to whatever server the pics are loading from.

And as tabbed browsing goes, so far i also prefer Opera...I like that i can double click a tab and that window either minimizes or maximizes, and if i close it, it goes to the last tab i was viewing, whereas with Firefox, it just goes to the next tab on the right. Boo-urns. Oh, and i don't get a "store my password" prompt at the yahoo mail sign in page as i do with Opera, so checking mail between multiple accounts isn't as quick and easy as with Opera.

OH DEAR GOD BUGS IN SOFTWARE!

My "fix" was regarding making it useful. :)

I tried Opera a while back and didn't like it. What makes it so much better than Firefox for you?

I just love how Firefox is supposed to be so awesome, but every thread has at least 20+ posts on how to "fix" it. :D

Opera fo life!
Not everyone wants their Firefox to be Opera, and yet it can cater to both.
