In the latest instance of reported AI usage, developer Nexon is being accused of utilizing AI to create fake advertisements featuring nonexistent streamers to help promote The First Descendant, a free-to-play online shooter.

We would like to inform you of certain irregularities identified in the operation of our TikTok Creative Challenge for creators.

As a part of our marketing campaign for Season 3: Breakthrough, we recently ran a Creative Challenge
program for TikTok creators, which allows creators to voluntarily submit their content to be used as advertising materials.

All submitted videos are verified through TikTok's system to check copyright violations before they are approved as advertising content.

However, we have become aware of cases where the circumstances surrounding the production of certain submitted videos appear inappropriate. Thus, we are conducting a thorough joint investigation with TikTok to determine the facts.

We sincerely apologize for the delay in providing this notice as the review is taking longer than expected. Once the verification is complete, we will promptly share an update through an official notice.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

First Descendant Devs in Hot Water Over AI Ads Impersonating Streamers

Who really gives a fuck? I'm actually over this fear of AI. It's everywhere already but for some reason even THIS is seen as bad and worthy of boycotting? How about focus on the high costs of making games and the length of time it takes to produce these games over this sloppy shit...

LLMs have got to be one of the worst inventions in human history
Actually no, but also yes. LLMs can be used for training actual artificial intelligence (which isn't even close to what keeps getting shopped around as AI, which is ironically holding back the development of actual AI), which can be a good thing. Critically, right now, it's being used for extremely nefarious purposes, and barely rates as more than large-scale plagiarism in the best case. In the worst case, we have people slavishly worshipping this stuff Daedalus-style, as if the outputs they produce are 100% sage, God-like knowledge and not just glorified search results.

Influencers are just paid marketing tools. They're more effective than traditional ads, so they made good money. Now, they get replaced by something more efficient. I don't see a problem there. It's just marketing being as shameless as it always has been.

That is a good summary. I dont like marketing influencer. I think they are a plague and the furthest from obective gaming reviews you can ever be. I truly dont care of they are replaced by something simmilar disgustin. :)

Who the fuck cares? They used tools fully integrated now into every major design platform to make an ad more cost effectively 99% of people would barely notice, except a few eagle eyed Karen's. Social advertising is HARD, optimising towards a profitable ad that converts a player is a fucking mine field, you need to test hundreds, the vast majority will fail to be revenue positive, and you'll know pretty fast, at which point an ad is literally killed and never shown again. Testing that shit is important to be cost effective…unless ur bankrolled by someone else's money and are happy burning mountains of VC capital.

Even most small channels will do a lot(including selling their morals) for opportunity of free games, personally i only know 1 channel(under 20k yt subs) that is and was legit, guy plays mostly hack&slash games and gave diablo4 6/10 score and really went to town describing all its flaws, he has regular job and his channel is just few hours of streaming/week on the side+ sometimes 2-3 vids/week too, basically he isnt incentivised to lie to his audience :)
