First Hitman: Absolution reviews hit

Will wait for more reviews. First review etc, but I don't trust them to know what the hell they're talking about with the Hitman franchise and everything I've seen of the game says it's almost impossible to be better than Blood Money. I'm extremely suspicious of this review.

OPM and OXM...yeah. I wouldn't pay any attention to those reviews either. Better than Blood Money? I don't know, for me at least it is looking really good. Super excited that IO is back to the Hitman series.

I don't remember for sure now but I kind of remember this being an issue when the game was announced and was getting all that controversy.. Aren't most of the people who worked on Hitman gone from IO now? While I don't think we're looking at a Starbreeze situation (where they disgraced a classic franchise by making it a completely different genre), I still think it's a mistake to think this will be good because it's still IO working on it.

All they need to say is, "You can complete the game without killing anyone with your own hands" (because traps are too much fun) and hardcore fans will have nothing to worry about.

I believe IO staff has in fact confirmed you can beat the game without firing a single round like in Blood Money,
outside of the final mission in BO anyway
.

I think judgement on this game should come from the people who know the series best, the fans. That said, I'm getting a very good vibe from this game, so I'll continue to be optimistic until I see impressions from those who really know what is going on, than some reviewer whose inclined to take the path of least resistance and start gunning people down all the time.

Hey gaf, let me spoil you the rest of the reviews:

IGN: 9/10 A masterpiece
Gamespot: 9/10 A fantastic entry for the series and one of the greatest game of the generation
4chan: It's shit
Neogaf: A good game, just not a good hitman

HAHA

So damn true.

Good old /v/.

I'm playing blood money on PC right now and if this is the 'peak' of the hitman series then I have no hope for this franchise. I hope those magazines are right.

Besides those youtube gameplay demoes I've been watching are quite promising, way better than blood money.

so game is forgiving but unforgiving, old school but modern, has checkpoints but its' like the first games

I'm excited by everything that I saw so far and I think it looks good. IO involved or not, it's just good that they still have the license.

sidenote....I liked Syndicate a lot. Haha! (never played the original though)

I love that game. There are some mission I could of done without though. I didn't like the "Death on The Mississippi" level. Maybe I didn't play it enough.

The first game did in fact have checkpoints. It was sort of like a lives system in that if you died, you respawned at a nearby location and could continue from there. Later games switched this system with manual saving, but I guess Absolution is changing that so players can't manually save/load every time they goof up.

For reference, the Official PlayStation Magazine gave RE6 a 9/10 too and OXM gave it an 8/10.

Make of that what you will.

OPM would give a turd a 9/10 if a publisher put it in a box. They have little credibility. I'll wat for the opinions of the old school Hitman fans.

Early reviews are always suspicious.

I will wait for reviews from trusted games journalists with integrity such as

What? Blood Money is awesome! You don't like it particularly, or don't enjoy stealth games in general?

I need to finish Hitman 2 and replay BM before the Absolution release. I hope I can make it in time.

Xav didn't seem overly impressed with it based on his comments on Weekend Confirmed last week. Either way, I don't have a ton of love for that franchise and, even if it's a great game, it's not taking precedence over AC3 or Halo 4 for the next couple months. I can wait for a price drop.

Hopefully this is the norm and they can bring this sort of polish to the 3rd Kane and Lynch game.

Read my mind.
Although I think we are definitely in the minority for wanting another K&L game.

I want another K&L, too! Kane and Lynch 2 had enough polish and played fine, it was just too repetitive and the story just wasn't as strong as the first. And way too much bullet-sponge of enemies. Kane and Lynch 1 had it for variety and storytelling (Lynch vision), while 2 had it for chaotic feel of gameplay and a unique art direction (that's now improperly used by Frostbite 2 games).

The story and variety of 1 with the gameplay of 2 would be a great Kane and Lynch 3.

What's the confusion? They "perfected" the formula, and it is therefore the "peak of the series". I mean, I'm not saying that true, but it makes grammatical sense.
Yeah I know, it's just the 'probably' seems like the reviewer is a bit indecisive.

I mean, if you mention perfection, wouldn't that mean it is the most definite peak of the series?

Putting credibility aside, I just assume most reviews will be writing about the easier difficulties, so it will be difficult get anything out of them.

Never played any of the hitman games before, but everything I've seen so far about Absolution looks great.

Can't wait to get my hands on it next month.

At least play Blood Money first so you can know what to expect from a Hitman game. If this turns out bad, which right now seems like a 50/50 shot of happening and increasing almost daily, then you'll probably think the franchise sucks.

Or worse you'll like it and that becomes what you expect out of the franchise...

Blood Money somehow is only around 82 on metacritic, the series itself never seemed like a critic darling. I wouldn't be surprised if Absolution is much higher even if the game itself isn't better.

Still, anything close to Blood Money and I will be in heaven.
