Borma

Saito

So Borma gets prosthetic eyes, but not Batou?? Also, they added pupils to them for some reason which makes them look dumb (okay Einchy, you have a point). Other than that

Ishikawa - like the look. I always thought he looked like ?uestlove anyway, so a black dude playing him fits
Togusa - looks waaay too old. He was suppose to be newly married so I imagined late 20s/early 30s at most
Borma - those eyes...
Saito - looks good. Wish they'd gone with slicked hair, but looks good

Borma's prosthetic eyes look terrible, and their inclusion in these photos makes it seem even more likely Batou won't have any.

Forget this movie.

They really should have stayed away from trying to straight adapt the thing. Should have taken the themes and made an original story with original characters.

Would make sense if they had a story they wanted to tell. But I imagine they just have a title they want to sell.

Damn. When I read they'd reuse part of the original score I immediately thought of Yokko Kano's sublime Stand Alone Complex' soundtrack. Not a big fan of the 1995 movie here.

Stand alone complex and 2nd gig, while great, were not what set the world on fire. Neither was the OG manga for that matter. The thematic elements which captivated global audiences were generally only window dressing for the source material and anime series adaptions.

It was always the original 1995 Mamoru Oshii spinoff movie alone which made the series the break out hit it became to be such a popular name to even adapt into a hollywood script in this day and age, so i'm glad they are keeping that in mind with how they approach this movie.

What is up with Togusa's hair? It's like they gave him one of those bad haircuts they use to de-age actors for flashbacks.

Yeah, they fucked up pretty bad.

Togusa is supposed to be the greenhorn with a young child. This guy looks like he's seen some shit.

You can fix shitty cybereyes in post but that's just bad casting.

Yeah these really look like costume tests or something from pre-production, so I'm hopeful the eyes will be fixed.

God the music rumor and these leaked images (everyone except Togusa and Borma hope they look better in the trailer) is making me excited about this movie.

I'm guessing Batou's artificial eyes will be done in CGI

I think it's just the lighting of those pictures that makes the eyes on Borma look off. The "whites" on them are supposed to be the rims, and the lens are in the middle.

I'll give Borma a benefit of a doubt since these aren't official pics and could look better after effects are set in.

Ishikawa is probably my favorite casting at this point.

Borma aside. Togusa, what happened? You suddenly look really old. Give him some white hair and he could play the Chief!

Ishikawa and Saito look great though.

The problem is that there's no real decent design applied to translating the characters, and no creativity. The comparison to Hannibal Chau from Pacific Rim and his goggles is spot on - a bad-ass set of cybernetic shades could be grafted onto Batou and it would look serious and non-goofy.

I'm reminded of the problems with comic book movies before Marvel began applying serious work to translate characters into live action properly and employed designers who understood how to make things look good while translating the aesthetic faithfully.
