First Party XBOX Wireless Controller in Development

Perhaps.

Primary responsibility is electrical and firmware design for peripheral input devices for the XBOX game system. In addition to design activities, candidate will coordinate internal and external resources to develop, fabricate, and test the system. Involvement in all phases of product development such as: brainstorm concepts, investigate new technologies, schedule project milestones, document design, ensure safety and electromagnetic compliance, and release design to manufacturing. Devices include microcontroller based systems with analog and digital circuits that interface with a variety of input and output devices such as USB host controllers, motors, RF transceivers, and video sources. The position requires design skills with analog and digital circuits as well as software/firmware. System-level experience with RF products is required. Detailed RF design experience a plus. Software/firmware should include C language programming on microcontrollers to interface with the devices mentioned above. Experience with USB (Universal Serial Bus) is preferred. Experience working with ASIC designers to achieve low-cost integrated solutions is preferred. A successful candidate will have a diverse background with a variety of hardware and software as well as leadership skills to drive the project to timely completion. This position requires international travel to facilitate project meetings with overseas manufacturers. A BS degree with 8+ years experience with Electrical Engineering is required.

The position could relate to a number of projects, but a wireless controller fits the bill here.

XBOX2 seems like a more likely candidate to receive a wireless controller at this stage in the game than XBOX.

MS and Sony both need to make a wireless 1st party controller.

+ 1 million to MS if this is true.

It's true, and they rock. Better than Wavebird in some respects.

Given that the listing is marked 11/24, I'm curious how you could say "they rock" and "better than the Wavebird in some respects," as it would seem (logically) that no working model could possibly exist at this point in time. If a real working model did exist, why would they be looking to hire someone to work on it?

Not that you're necessarily wrong, of course, it just seems like it would be unlikely for the hardware to be completed (and thus capable of being tested and "rocking") if they wanted to hire more people to work on RF controller systems.

Yes this puzzles me. MS make PC wheels, why couldn't they just slap on an Xbox connector and make an official wheel?

Microsoft afaik makes no more PC gaming peripherals. The Sidewinder division isn't around anymore.

I take it that there would be more complications in developing a wireless Xbox controller than one for the other two consoles, because you have to take into account the XBL headset. None of the current third-party wireless Xbox controllers work with the headset as far as I know...

Whoah! Innovation!
I remember the Australian Xbox promotions at launch where they claimed that Xbox was the first home console to allow 4-player multiplayer. Teh inventors!

I won the Logitech Cordless Xbox controller as a photo contest prize.
I also have the Wavebird from Nintendo for my GameCube.
The Logitech Controller is heavy as a brick. No joke. You can kill someone, if you hit his head with that monster or break your foot if you drop it...

If MS ever makes a wireless controller: The Wavebird is the maximum weight a wireless controller should have. Maximum! Not minimum!

Yeah, so who remembers the random PGC piece on how XBox higher-ups were making fun of the Wavebird?

That's the first thing that entered my mind when I saw the title of this thread. They asked Billy what hardware functionality should be added to the next Xbox, and when he said wireless controllers they were all HAW HAW HAW U MEAN LIKE THE WAVEBIRD, CHUCKLE SNORT SNORT. It was strange.

If Xenon is coming out less than a year from now, you don't think that they may have already started doing some sort of work on things? The hardware isn't complete, but it's not too far off. The leaked pictures of supposed xenon controllers are fairly accurate, aside from the fact they'll more than likely be wireless.

MS is just making things a lot easier than Wavebirds, set up and such. Soon enough, we'll see the real deal.

Wavebirds aren't easy to set up? Microsoft is going to make something easier than the Wavebird?

I have this little thing called Windows I'd like to show you...

Yes, so very. I like the WB, but I'm a bit tight when it comes to controller purchases, so I only have one...and it's nice, except for the fact that it's a GC controller...

I used the word "versatile" in describing the XBoxen controller before, and I think it still holds up, and it'd make more sense if you see the actual things in action.

With Xbox things are a lot more "automatic" I guess is the right word. You'll see.

I'm guessing that this just means the channel selection is automatic rather than manual... that's the only thing that would make much sense this. That, or it automatically powers down when not being used.
