First PGR 3 screenshots Las Vegas

Kobold

half-wit retard monkey's ass
In honor of this very PGR 3'ish day, some new screenshots of Las Vegas in the game. (Well I don't know if they are all Las Vegas, could be!)

Looks fantastic!!!! The usage of HDR lighting and motion blur is very impressive! Easily the second best looking 360 game shown to date! This is true "next-gen" here...

today rocks! thanks

sweet, bizarre had confirmed earlier that the vegas city included some of the hotel "driveway" areas as well to race on. should make for some cool tracks sliding around bends with crazy water fountain shows going off every hour on the hour ;)

It's going to be extremely challenging to play with the fender cam mode switched on.

I doubt the car would sway as much as the camera is tilted in first shot and I doubt there is a 3rd person camera, like that in the second pick, available durring gameplay so probably not gameplay screens.

could be pics from replay mode. If photo mode makes even half as much difference as is does in GT4 than well these pics would mean nothing to me.

I really wish they supported variable weather conditions and patterns. I think they haven't released any information with regards to that, which makes me think the game will have static weather patterns for specific maps.

while i dont believe bizarre has commented on thsi before, iirc the ebworld (or was it gamestop?) description said variable weather before it was removed. this description also had the first ever mention of las vegas, so its proven to be accurate thus far...

time of day is in and i'm sure weather is too, but time will tell for sure.

I wish they'd stop taking shots with everything in motion. They've got these great road textures but we never see them because the shots they take are always blurred.

looks ok, still think that Kameo, and GOW are the best showcases for the 360's power. Seems like most of the shots for this game are on overcast days, would like to see nightime, rain, sunny, etc...

Good god those crowds are over modeled.

I dont think that's an actual wireframe, it looks like Maya's vector wireframe render where it adds a shitload of poly's that arent actually there.

Photo mode? Too many people in the crowd? Are you dudes dense? Or do you just not have anything left to troll on?

The game obviously looks that good in motion, if you'd even bother to take a look at any of the other media out there.

And for the cowd comment:

They pushed the number up to 35,000 people on one corner before the framerate took a hit.

They should've have taken it a bit easier on the crowds then, jeez cut back on some of it and it will still look amazing but ease up on the framerate better.

I'm pretty sure the 60fps puzzle is been a bit harder to solve than just dumping a few polys from the crowd. Jesus.

You guys are completely missing the point. If you have to add 35,000 people before the framerate changes, then deleting every single person will maybe increase the framerate by 1.

Or 2. Probably 1.

Follow?

Edit: you also understand that shot is from a test, and that they're not going to pile up that many people in the game, right?

Without wanting to get screamed at (OMG Shutup hater etc.), does anyone else think these don't look as impressive as the initial screens?
http://www.xboxworld.nl/images/content/34607.jpg
Particularly referring to the car, the shadows, the road, and particularly the bush and the lightpost in the background which look fairly substandard.

Overall its looking great, but I can't help but notice these things.

Personally I don't find some of these shots appealing. But having seen it in motion, and that being a crappy build, I know it looks pretty much photorealistic in actual gameplay.

I'd say gameplay footage or shots are more flattering of this game then these 'staged' shots. But these are still nice.

People should stop putting wait into screenshots, since pretty much every single game will look better in motion when you see the actual lighting effects etc. in action.

I think it looks better. Those trees are fantastic, the road is of course blurry because it's right next to the camera and going by at a high rate of speed, the shadows have never been super high res, and I don't know why you think the cars look worse.

judging by the videos, i think these shots are pretty much all sunny, mostly clear skies... it just has to do with how bizarre is handling the "over brightening" effect. basically, in the video, anytime the camera cut to where you could see the sky, it was immediately super bright white light, then it slowly faded into a more natural blue.

its to simulate how your eyes work, and i admit, looks like it may be (or have been?) overdone.

*sigh*

Are they ever going to release gameplay screens?

*sigh* no!

when sites and mags get their own preview/review copies, then you'll see gameplay pics. not before (unless, on the off chance, they decide to do so in a studio update or something)

so...this game it is ok to say it looks good?? because the last "rumored" forza shots looked just as good if not sharper than these..and those were bad, ugly, garbage shots...im still learning about how to judge lighting geometry etc etc from a still picture. thats one of 30 updates a second

Yeah, there's likely more to it. They have to consider every worst case scenario. Come around a corner, LONG view of the track, all cars on screen, and lots of nice lighting effects. Even without the crowds, some scenes might have caused the framerate to dip. So, if they can't get 60, at least they are giving us as much detail as possible.

Then again, it sounds as if they had a hard enough time hitting 30 fps. While PGR1 was 60 fps, perhaps they simply became too ambitious this time around. They were guessing for so long (alpha kits and what not) and perhaps aimed too high in some cases or simply made some bad choices that kept performance down. We really don't know.

I'm sure that's where the "a few more months and we'd be at 60" comments came from. They probably only got ahold of finished hardware recently, so with more time, they could probably go after the faults in their engine and shoot for 60 fps. As it stands, they need to concentrate on getting this game finished and out the door.

The lack of 60 is a huge blow to SOME of us, but most won't notice or care. The motion blur should really help as well (yeah, it's kind of an excuse, but it's partially true). Considering that this game looks to be WAY ahead of other launch games, MS probably wants this on shelves ASAP in order to demonstrate the machine. To the casuals, 30 fps won't make a damn difference.

It's obvious to me that the hardware has plenty of room to grow now and that developers simply haven't grasped it yet. Unlike most machines, the launch is occuring in the US FIRST and US developers haven't had the chance to "dig in". They must have had XBOX1 kits for a longer period of time or something, though, as XBOX games were generally more impressive (for their time) at launch...but still. Armored Core 4 is the one game that gives me a lot of hope for the machine. That trailer and those screens from the trailer are FAR beyond anything we've seen from other developers (including themselves, as Tenchu is very "1.5"). AC4 is mind meltingly impressive looking. It looked even more impressive than the old "Project Force" PS3 footage. I don't know what FROM is doing, but holy shit, they know their 360 hardware.

more like simulate how a digital camera or a camcorder work.
ones with non polarized lens too : P

but today is not a day for complaints. that gameplay vid left me speechless.

Hmm, maybe its just me. I still think it looks great, but I think the earlier media used to look like CG/undoable in realtime. Looking at those new screens IJoel posted, the cars don't look as hot (hard to put into words...they look "game-like", if you know what I mean, sporting a level of detail I would expect not a level that would wow me), the backgrounds certainly aren't photorealistic (like the NY shopfront that was circulated around E3), the trees look meh and the shadows look simple. Now that isn't meant as a disservice to PGR3, as a sum of its parts its great and certainly "next-gen", but I can't help but feel that looking at the initial screens its been downgraded.

my only complaint is that these are daytime shots

las vegas is all about the night time! come on show me the money!

No, i cant wait till it drops, then wait a llitte bit longer so the price will drop to say 19.99 or 24.99. But i see a 60 dollar price tag in the future, which is foolish.

I think you will be happy to know there *are* nighttime tracks in PGR3...

I know this because one of The producers of the game was talking about it and said they are simulating the backlighting of gauges and even the backlighting of the power window switches in the doors!!!......

I believe parts of the interior backlighting even reflects off the windows/windscreen!!1 :0

Alot of what you and I have longed for in console racers, Bizzare is delivering in PGR3 :D

Eh? That's just showing off now Bizzare. It's the equivalent of when FSU used to play small colleges and run up the score into the 70's. It's like Bizzare is blowing out some of the other 360 devs and laughing in their faces.

Unless I'm hallucinating, that first pic is of a red car driving from out of a tunnel.

Notice the curvature of the back of the car? It should be reflecting above and behind the car. However, I’m not seeing tunnel being reflected ... I’m seeing sky and trees?

Unless it’s a fairly narrow bridge of course, in that case it would make sense. If it is a tunnel though ... it looks like the environment mapping is fuxxord.

That can’t be right ...

You are right, I also noticed that the white TVR only has relfections on the front and back nothing on the side.
