Interesting. But then again, the Middle East is where civilization first sprung up in the world. I'm not surprised that they had advanced forms of literature over the rest of the world.

I thought it was the Epic of Gilgamesh. Or are we differentiating mythology from straight up fiction?
They're referring to stories/fiction it seems.

This was pretty much 2nd century Star Wars. Epic of Gilgamesh didn't include "robots", etc.
 
Interesting read. Seems like the first or one of the first science fiction stories ever written was a 2nd century Syrian tale.

Isaac Asimov and Carl Sagan considered Somnium the first science-fiction story; it depicts a journey to the Moon and how the Earth's motion is seen from there.

There are flying machines in ancient Indian lore like the Vedas. The Vimana was how the gods traveled. Quite UFO like

Traveling to other worlds was a thing as well. Many of these stories existed during BC times.

I remember hearing about the space nuke from the Mahabharata.
