They're referring to stories/fiction it seems.

This was pretty much 2nd century Star Wars. Epic of Gilgamesh didn't include "robots", etc.

The bramhastra from Mahabharata is indeed very close to a nuke in its effects and display.
Though Mahabharata and other Indian epics are mostly considered mythology.
