They're going all in on having Karl Urban, it seems.

I just hope it's not "Legacy character is old, will train new character to take the reins, etc. etc. etc." But I still look forward to this.

Right feeling, wrong actor.

I think it's going to be the 'has-been actor who's also comic relief' role here. I'm simply basing this on how old Karl Urban is.

Absolutely

I want to see those Cage movies

I would not go that far.

One thing I think it does it allows Cage to prove he is a great martial artist despite the bad movies. I always took him as Van Damme, Much of his movies have all the same beats.

Karl Urban's great, but I don't know about this casting.

Karl has had a prolific career. He was very Campy in the Hercules TV show filmed in New Zealand. But his break is I guess LotR, and he is partially type cast by his character in Boys. Sometimes he is a country music star.

I watched the first one with some friends while we were drinking and I don't remember much about it at all, except that it was good, dumb fun.

I'll definitely be watching this with some buds and brews. 🍻

Maybe Raiden is the one to get Goro-ed this time around?
I'm not sure if they follow the game lore, but he should be Immortal. If he wants to fight in the tournament he would need to give up his immortality.

I think the one who won't survive for a long time in the Sequel is this Cole guy.

First movie is such a mixed bag. It starts off amazing but somewhere halfway through it's like the director thought "wait a minute, this movie is supposed to be schlock" and the movie never recovers from that vibe. It just becomes such a goofy, sloppy mess.

This was fucking cool:

I don't get it, the first movie tried to be super serious and now they want to have comedy? Meanwhile the 90s flick had a nice mix of both from the start.

I can't wait, the '95 movie is a classic, Annihilation should have been called Abomination and I really didn't mind the reboot MK. One of the characters has my name and as of a fan of the games since the first one, I can't tell you the excitement of turning on an MK game and hearing them say it, tears of joy.

My favorite is Raiden, though. GOAT

The first movie was around 70% serious with multiple moments of comedy and camp. The comedy came in the minute Kano entered the scene, and the camp came from some of the over the top fatailities.

Hope they kill off the movie original character at the beginning of II, cause he was the worst and his special ability just being literal plot armor

The first film in 2021 was a mixed bag, some good stuff but some lame stuff, but as someone who loves going to the cinema, usually 20-30 times a year (in 2017, I nearly hit 40), it was miserable not being able to go for a whole year. So once I was fully vaccinated, this was the movie that just happened to have opened that weekend, and just the experience of getting to see a movie on the big screen alone was enough to put a smile on my face.

If he basically plays a cheesier version of his character from The Boys with an American accent the movie pretty much writes itself. I can see it.

Those edits between each move he does tell me Karl Urban cant throw a real kick to save his life. The dude is in his 50s. Not a good sign imo.

He would have been a perfect Kano though.

At least they nailed kano.

They call back to the best music. So that is good.

Looks like it will be fun, but not good.

Looks okay. Still disappointed it even has the guy from the first one in it. What a lame character.

Kitanan looks hot though.

The big focus is on Johnny Cage, and they make it clear that he isn't a great fighter and doesn't seem to have powers. I think Cole doesn't last long so they need a replacement for the tournament and Raiden sees something in Johnny.

Oh and Kitana is

Full cast is great tbh minus Tati Gabrielle.

As you can see in the trailer, he's only there for 1 second. Rumor says that he'll die quickly and that Cage/Kitana are the main characters, which seems to be confirmed by this trailer.

It doesn't matter, the trailer clearly shows he has been pushed into "third-tier background character" category, to potentially be killed off like KyoZz KyoZz is suggesting.

Tati Gabrielle is a good actress, she just needs to stay off of social media. Jumping into culture wars by way of trolling is not a career helper.

It does seem to illustrate all the complaints Iko Uwais has about hollywood. I suppose MK will never be a real hard hitting 'real' martial style film but they COULD have gone that way for lots of it.

And they really missed the boat by not having Jean Claude Van Damm in this. Both from a "has been actor who can fight" and a (not so) sly nod to Street Fighter.
