Mortal Kombat 2 trailer new

the first one was pretty bad. there's a reason this one completely replaces the main character lol. Cage should have been the main character from the beginning. they wanted a relatable normal earthrealm character... and Johnny Cage was right there staring at them, but they just had to make up that dumb ass Cole.
Boggles my mind they went with Cole Young as a main character.

Johnny Cage could've filled that position and the story would've been unaffected. The only difference was the character's occupation.

Anyway, this trailer looks better than the last. I've gone from zero hype to cautiously optimistic.

Have they given away yet how they get rid of Cole? I saw a body in the trailer, but honestly I can't even remember what Cole looked like lol.

There's a quick shot in the new trailer of him fighting Shao Kahn.

My guess is he gets folded in the first 20 minutes of the movie.

Fuck yeah. Nice irony play too, considering Annihilation's intro.

Genuinely looking forward to this. My daughter wants to see it in theaters, so we're going!

I never expect more than dumb fun from game movies, so I'm sure I'll have a good time with it. I didn't hate the first one by any means either. I don't really fully understand the hatred either, like, it's not great, but it's not unwatchable either. Just good action schlock, and that's all I expect out of this one, just some good ole schlock.

Schlock can be fun folks, ya just gotta chill and not take it seriously. I think of flicks like this like theme park rides, such is why they're great for IMAX. Noone gives a shit about narrative, character development, or cinematography with a theme park ride, ya just watch the pretty stuff and enjoy the cheap thrills.

he'll be the "this shit just got real" sacrifice character. like Art Lean in the og Movie, when he gets killed by Goro... he also was a made up character for that movie... probably specifically to have a sacrificial lamb to set the tone of how dangerous Shang Tsung's minions are

It boggles my mind that the Mortal Kombat movie that came out over 30 years ago looks better in set design and graphics.

ehh... the 3D CGI elements in that movie don't hold up all that well tbh.

Reptile was decent for a 1995 movie I guess, but it all looks kinda like a PS1 prerendered cutscene at tines 😂

but the set design was great, and Sub Zero's ice effects where surprisingly good for the time

Scorpion still looks great too.

And Shang Tsung.

Goro too, but he wasn't CGI.

My main gripes with it were:
- Many of the fight scenes (mainly the latter half of the movie) were very underwhelming. They were snappily edited and the choreography was dull.
- Characters were wasted. Goro looked terrible and had minimal presence. Shang Tsung, Mileena, Reiko and Nitara did nothing cool.
- Cole. Everything about him. His power. The poorly written "motivational speech". The unnecessity of his character.

It still does things well. Kano was great. A lot of the humor landed.
But for a dumb, fun popcorn movie I think the 1995 movie does everything better.

It's a new update on the old Techno Syndrome Mortal Kombat Rave. This time Ed Boon is doing the roll call for the character roster at the end.

Agreed across the board, the 95 original is a put it on anytime type of flick, so damn fun man.

I'm feeling myself getting hyped for this one, especially since they are bringing back Kano. What's happening to my cynicism?

eeeehhhhh... sounds super weird... it's not even in beat like the original.

there was a version with the announcer of MK3, which is my favourite remix

would love him to get 'Johnny Cage'd' like the Annihilation movie.

I did laugh at the trailer line "I am Johnny Cage" like he's some kind of Iron man.
looks like they're gonna fold some MK X story details into this

Gotta say -- I'm actually kind of down for the "washed-up" Johnny Cage, as long as he's not just there to make Cole be more "confident in yourself!!" And I think Urban can pull it off.

Finally got around to watching the 2021 reboot movie that this is a sequel to and now I'm pretty damn hype

The character of Cole Hahn or whatever his name is being a brick wall doesn't dissuade me, if you think about it he's about as deep as the rest of the MK cast anyways

Finally getting Johnny Cage in is going to great, having him be played by Karl Urban is just icing on the cake

MUCH better than the first movie.

Most of the fights in the first hour are pretty weak but once you hit the half way point it's all good fun from there. The Kung Lao vs Liu Kang fight is beautiful.

Do folks not pay online or something? I checked a lot of showings and there seems to be lots of seats available still. Anyways will be watching this in 2 hours.

Just saw this in IMAX.

It was excellent, just plain awesome really.
I don't rate the first one all that highly with its focus on the new guy, no actual tournament, nondescript locations, fights that could be much better/longer, no real stakes and generally just taking too long to get going.

This had none of that, focus on all the right people, all familiar locations, "2d plane" fighting nods (complete with hidden healthbars), great fights with signature moves woven in organically, actual fatalities, an actual tournament, great effects work (practical and digital), on point costuming, actual stakes, the movie moves at a good pace constantly, the jokes were funny, and (major spoiler) the new guy barely has any screen time, gets killed off quick lol.
Credits also played the classic mk song as the cherry on top.

Might as well forget the first movie exists and just pretend this is the first one imo.

Just got done as well, movie was fire. It removed the stench of the old MK2 movie.

The only actor I don't like is Raiden. Terrible English and he sounds weak. I take that back, i don't like bald Jade either.

Yessss so glad to hear this movie is better. I thought the first one was just aight, but kind of a let down.

The fights weren't memorable at all for a movie where the entire premise should be gnarly fights.

Got tickets for Saturday am. Told my wife it was Devils Wears Prada. Been practicing my best "I dont know what happened?!?" face.
