Boggles my mind they went with Cole Young as a main character.the first one was pretty bad. there's a reason this one completely replaces the main character lol. Cage should have been the main character from the beginning. they wanted a relatable normal earthrealm character... and Johnny Cage was right there staring at them, but they just had to make up that dumb ass Cole.
Have they given away yet how they get rid of Cole? I saw a body in the trailer, but honestly I can't even remember what Cole looked like lol.the first one was pretty bad. there's a reason this one completely replaces the main character lol. There's a quick shot in the new trailer of him fighting Shao Kahn.Have they given away yet how they get rid of Cole? I saw a body in the trailer, but honestly I can't even remember what Cole looked like lol.
Fuck yeah. Nice irony play too, considering Annihilation's intro. There's a quick shot in the new trailer of him fighting Shao Kahn.
My guess is he gets folded in the first 20 minutes of the movie.

It boggles my mind that the Mortal Kombat movie that came out over 30 years ago looks better in set design and graphics.Boggles my mind they went with Cole Young as a main character.
Johnny Cage could've filled that position and the story would've been unaffected. The only difference was the character's occupation.
Anyway, this trailer looks better than the last. I've gone from zero hype to cautiously optimistic.

Scorpion still looks great too.ehh... the 3D CGI elements in that movie don't hold up all that well tbh.
Reptile was decent for a 1995 movie I guess, but it all looks kinda like a PS1 prerendered cutscene at tines
but the set design was great, and Sub Zero's ice effects where surprisingly good for the time
My main gripes with it were:I didn't hate the first one by any means either. I don't really fully understand the hatred either, like, it's not great, but it's not unwatchable either. Just good action schlock, and that's all I expect out of this one, just some good ole schlock.
Goro too, but he wasn't CGI.
Agreed across the board, the 95 original is a put it on anytime type of flick, so damn fun man.My main gripes with it were:
- Many of the fight scenes (mainly the latter half of the movie) were very underwhelming. They were snappily edited and the choreography was dull.
- Characters were wasted. Goro looked terrible and had minimal presence. Shang Tsung, Mileena, Reiko and Nitara did nothing cool.
- Cole. Everything about him. His power. The poorly written "motivational speech". The unnecessity of his character.
It still does things well. Kano was great. A lot of the humor landed.
But for a dumb, fun popcorn movie I think the 1995 movie does everything better.
It's a new update on the old Techno Syndrome Mortal Kombat Rave. This time Ed Boon is doing the roll call for the character roster at the end.
eeeehhhhh... sounds super weird... it's not even in beat like the original.
there was a version with the announcer of MK3, which is my favourite remix
Yeah, I know what you mean. There is something a little off about it in the way it was mixed.

Gotta say -- I'm actually kind of down for the "washed-up" Johnny Cage, as long as he's not just there to make Cole be more "confident in yourself!!" And I think Urban can pull it off.I'm feeling myself getting hyped for this one, especially since they are bringing back Kano. What's happening to my cynicism?

MUCH better than the first movie.
Most of the fights in the first hour are pretty weak but once you hit the half way point it's all good fun from there. The Kung Lao vs Liu Kang fight is beautiful.
Do folks not pay online or something? I checked a lot of showings and there seems to be lots of seats available still. Anyways will be watching this in 2 hours.
There's only 1 that feels like a PROPER fatality, where the character performing it goes into complete "overkill" mode. And it's brilliant.how are the fatalities?
