I know I'm probably late to the party, but i just got around to seeing this series. I'm fairly confused, needless to say.....but I do like it quite a bit, thought it was well put together and i loved the music.

So what do you guys think? Love it? Like it? Hate it? Don't care? Is it genius or just random crap? Too esoteric? etc

The best scene in the whole anime was when the giant baseball bomb thing was coming down. It was so well synced with the music.

I have the series but I've slept on it. It's only 6 episodes, but I'm wondering what all the love for it is. Maybe next week I'll start.

Hated it the first time, loved it after the second time and bought all 3 DVDs. I only wish they sell a box set for it, I can only find the limited edition one on ebay.

It's insanely well animated and stylistic. I loved the days it used to air on Adult Swim. I'd just have it on in the backround while I was on the internet. So beautiful and quirky. Makes most other anime just seem flat and humorless.

I'd have to agree with you. HATED it the first time. It's kind of hard to follow with all the random stuff happening. Then as you watch it the second (or third) time, you start to get the story. :)

The first time I saw it, I watching adult swim with my roommate, starred blankly for half an hour wondering what the hell we were watching, looked at each other and pretty much both agreed that we had no idea what the hell we just saw, but we wanted to see it again.

I loved the show. Like others, my first viewing was a WTF kind of moment, but in a good "I need to check this out again" kind of way. I love how it takes the coming of age tale and smashes all the conventions of the genre to smithereens.

Yeah, confused as hell the first time I saw it, but I did also see it piece-meal. Saw the end first, but it was so confusing, I didn't even know it was the end. I had one of my students, who read the manga, explain it to me, and then I sat down to watch it in order and finally got it. Otherwise, a very stylish series with cool music. PEACE.

Been a long time fan of FLCL, watched it on fansub and loved it instantly, have all the R1 DVDs, wish I got the limited editon box with them but I was broke at the time. Very few people I know liked it, it's not very accessable I guess.

It's the best show to be removed from Adult Swim.

I hope you don't expect Adult Swim to keep repeating the same 6 shows over and over again. I mean, I really love the series and everything, but I completely understand why they took it off.

Yet Bebop continues to air after being on CN for five years.

The problem with FLCL is more that there are only 6 episodes. After a month an a half, it's repeating already. It's come back before, and I imagine it will again, they just can't keep it running continuously.

They have said that they do plan on airing FLCL again at some point. It's just so short that it's hard to find a time to run it. They usually seem to like setting things up for long hauls, and with so many new series being added to the lineup, it's difficult to see where they could put it in.

Maybe if they would let Inuyasha take a break once in a blue moon...

AS really does need to re-air this. Not for my sake of course since I shelled out for the dvds. But for other people who don't have the expensive & scarce dvds. For a series AS claims to love so much....it hasn't aired very much at all. It ran 1 single time in 2004, and about 5 times in 2003. I know it's a short series and all but c'mon, it's hell better then wasting air-time on Milk Chan.

I'm so sorry for the topic bump, but DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN I just saw the first FLCL episode WTF this stuff is awesome! The guys writing it must have shared a lot of crackpipes! Anyway, I watched a version with English voice-acting, is there a legitimate way of obtaining a version with Japanese voices and subtitles?

I was asking because the last anime I saw with English dubs was Golden Boy (the 2nd episode). Luckily I had seen the first with the original voices. It's not that I want Japanese voices because I pressume they are cooler, it's just that the original VA's seem to be willing to go all the way to sound as demented and crazy as possible - seems relevant for FLCL. Right now, me being a poor student and all, I'll guess i'll try to rent it somewhere :).

Not to derail the thread or stray too far off topic, but did Adult Swim ever show the OVA of Read or Die (another relatively short anime not unlike FLCL)? I've occasionally watched some of the TV episodes of R.O.D on G4TechTV, but I haven't really tried to get into it. However watching it made me start to think about re-watching the R.O.D. OVA that I've got on DVD which is only 4-6 (?) episodes (at least it unlike FLCL is all on one DVD). Likewise I probably should rewatch FLCL (and I really liked the commentary tracks) :)

FLCL is definitely an outstanding series. Short and sweet. This thread made me bust out my DVDs again (haven't watched the show in a few months), and damn...it gets better every time I watch it.

And for those complaining about the two episodes-per-disc DVD releases, just be glad you don't live in Japan. Over there, each episode was released on a separate DVD, each costing about 4,000 yen (~$35).

I'll take the U.S. box set, thank you very much.

Yeah, the OVA was shown on Adult Swim last year. They just combined the 3 OVAs and aired it.

They have shown R.O.D a few times already (3-4 times). Usually on special occasions like New Years or X-mas.

The only thing worth watching from the R.O.D. TV show was episode 13.

As for the FLCL voices; I've watched it a few times in both versions, I prefer the english dub, but that's probably because I saw it first in english.

The music is from 'The Pillows', it's all good. I think they have only one or two released albums here, and they had/have an American tour going.

Now I have only seen a few eps of R.O.D TV (1-4 and like ep 15) but I fount it far more entertaining than the R.O.D OVA.

I have tuned into every Adult Swim airing of R.O.D and feel asleep each time.

I am holding off on watching my DVD of it until the last DVD of the show comes out then I watch it all in one day.
