Did anyone see the video? I was floored.

The 23-year-old Omro man who allegedly tossed a baby out of a car window in Brown County during a police chase that resulted in his hospitalization last week has died.

Dana Bettin of Omro, died around 4 p.m. Sunday, according to Lt. Keith Deneys of the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.

Bettin was chased from the Oshkosh area Thursday after he allegedly was involved in a domestic dispute there.

With the child of the alleged victim of domestic violence in the car, the man rammed a Wisconsin State Patrol cruiser near Appleton and continued north on U.S. 41 into Brown County, police said. At one point, he slowed and threw the infant — still strapped in a car seat — onto the roadway and continued fleeing, police said.

The baby was not harmed in the chase.

Thank God the baby was unharmed.....and the chase ended in a CRASH.

They should have done their best to keep this guy alive so we could take turns kicking his ass.

He didn't throw it. Did everyone miss the actual footage of this? I saw it on Good Morning, America this morning. He slowed to like 10 miles an hour, opened the door, and set the infant, in it's car seat, out in the street. The cop that was chasing him then stopped and got the baby. It's not like hurled the damn thing into a briar patch.

I'm not saying what he did was right but that news story makes it sound ten times worse than it is.

I saw the car seat on its side in the street on the local morning news. So okay, the nice fleeing man didn't throw the baby, but he still set it in the middle of the fucking street on its side at 10mph. He's still an asshole.

Well the article says allegedly tossed, and that's all most of us have to go on dammit. Stop putting out the flames of hate!

Anyone ever think he got rid of the baby so it wouldn't die too?

The baby was still small enough to be in a car carrier. It might not have even developed neck muscles strong enough to support its head yet. So dumping it out of a moving vehicle with the carrier not oriented the right way was just as dangerous to the baby as keeping it along for the chase. The only sane solution is to not run. The guy deserved what happened to him.

I have a six-month-old who's still in a car carrier like that. The thought of him on his side in the middle of the street burns me up.

Exactly, my hatred burns a thousand times hotter because I too am a father.

Saw this on GMA this morning.

Maybe the guy meant to commit suicide, but didn't want the baby to suffer the same fate. Or (more likely) maybe he figured the cops would stop chasing him to rescue a baby in the middle of the highway, giving him a fleeing chance to escape capture.

From CNN's article:

At one point, he slowed down, opened the car door and dropped the baby in the car seat onto the highway, sending it tumbling toward the middle of the roadway.

"As the baby was flying toward me I noticed that she was crying very hard and looked scared," Wisconsin State Patrol Sgt. David Catalano said Tuesday on NBC's "Today" show, which aired video of the incident.

"Fortunately she was seat-belted into the child seat so that as it slid forward on the highway and then rolled over she escaped without any injuries," he said.

Sheriff's Sgt. Dan Pamenter told The Post-Crescent in Appleton that the man at first tried to put the baby out of the car on the shoulder, but the door car was in his way. He eventually pulled back into traffic and pushed the baby out as he was accelerating.

"His car was jerking back and forth," Pamenter said. "I didn't know what he was doing. He seemed to care for the baby."

There's 3 possible endings he could have done.

1) Surrender to the cops
2) Slowdown and leave the baby on the road then take off
3) Crash with the baby in the car.

Now while he should have done 1, I'm a lot happier he picked 2 than 3.

I'm glad that he actually slowed down instead of disposing of the baby at his prior high-rate of speed.

I was appalled that he would actually do that, but at the same time, glad that he slowed down before he got rid of the baby. It showed SOME sort of compassion for the well-being of the baby (in its own twisted way).
