Saw it this afternoon. How do I comment on the film without giving anything away? Let's just say that this comment from Rotten Tomatoes (via Minneapolis Star Tribune):

"The first half, which is vintage Hitchcock, is by far superior to the second half, which is pure Steven Seagal."

Couldn't possibly be any more accurate. Nearly two thirds of a interesting and thought provoking movie completely shitted up by a tremendously awful final third. The messages the movie gets across are horrendous as well, such as a mother is within her rights to do anything for the safety of her child, like put 400 other people in serious danger or accuse people of crimes in paranoid fits of rage. Also, mental problems aren't real, others are probably just lying to you. The movie is also noticably hostile towards men. Viewer beware. Of course Ebert liked it. That guy has been lost for a decade now.

The movie is 3hours???? Doesn't seem "epic" enough for the length to be warrented, thanks for letting me know, its a wait till DVD movie for sure now.

I speak only from seeing the trailer, but wasn't Jodie Foster in this movie last year when it was called The Missing?

Nope, where did ya get 3 hours from? It's actually kind of short, maybe 90 minutes.

Are you referring to Julianne Moore in The Forgotten? If so, then yes.

No, that was Cate Blanchett. You're probably thinking of Julianne Moore in The Forgotten.

Edit: Okay, just read the ending spoilers. Don't think I'll be seeing this anymore.

You're right, the lat third of Flightplan is truly retarded. For a minute, you think you're watching a classy thriller, but pretty soon the facade falls and you realise, this movie is just as stupid as everything else Hollywood has been barfing up lately.

Honestly, I really thought the movie was just like an hour and twenty minutes of "where's my daughter?!" (don't get me wrong, most of it was pretty interesting) with a good ending. The only thing that seemed segalish was
when bean was pushing the explosion away from himself at first, i was like WTF? :lol
otherwise, it was alright. 6.8/10.

Can someone give me some spoilers of what happened with her daughter? I dont think im gonna see this movie....

Big fan of Maid in Manhattan, were ya? Sure, he still has an eye for great movies, but he also gives the thumbs up to more complete and utter shit than any other serious critic in the country.

Ebert gaves Reservoir Dogs 2.5 stars while Booty Call got 3 stars.
To be fair, Ebert does not intend those ratings to be compared like that. His scale is more about whether the film succeeds at what it aims to accomplish. You can naturally argue that his views on the success of individual films are flawed, but you can't take the scores and inherently say that Ebert claims Booty Call is better than Reservoir Dogs.

I thought the movie was pretty good and thrilling, and yeah....the last 3rd of the film goes into auto-pilot with them all running around and evading each other. Also, the CG effects for the explosions looked real cheap (all the budget pretty much went into constructing the giant interiors of the jumbo-jet).

People say Flightplan is like "Panic Room in the sky", but it's different and more than that. It works as a thriller, for the most part, and it is engaging and riveting at times. Of course, Jodie Foster pulls off another fine performance......if anything else, her acting carries the film and outweighs the film's faults.

A moderate thumbs-up for me on Flightplan. :)
