The Flintstones and Jetsons are very close to being the same show, but different writers and some key concept and theme differences split them apart. But being the two biggest and most well-known animated sitcoms from the past, and arguably the first ones to ever grace TV, which was the best?

The Jetsons relied more on pun tier humor while the Flintstones was full of self deprecation and physical humor. Jetsons was more creative in writing, but it just didn't work great for me. That was what I watched on a rainy Saturday morning when nothing else was on.

Flintstones wins.

The Jetsons are the rich people living high above the post apocalyptic wasteland the poor live in and the poor people are the Flintstones.

Voted Flintstones because I've seen way more of them and it's genuinely pretty good.

I love watching old TV shows because in many ways they are a glimpse into how people lived in the past. Even cartoons. The idea that they meet up with the neighbors and everyone goes to the drive in. That's the kind of tight knit American culture that no longer exists.

Fred really has strong Jackie Gleason vibes that works well with his working class background. That Honeymooners influence looms large.

Mr. Spacely sucked. I'm sure he broke many future labor laws with his constant firing and hiring or George. That, or some other disgruntled employee would have kicked his football sized ass off the edge of his building.

Flintstones, except for the Great Gazoo episodes. Fuck that guy.

Fred was the blue collar workin man.

George was a corporate toadie.

Fred wins this hands-down AND he would kick George's ass too. But he's a cool dude, so he'd have a beer with him afterwards.

Wait Till Your Father Gets Home was my favorite of Hanna Barbara animated sitcoms. Flintstones was good but was just The Honeymooners. The Jetsons had Mr. Spacely.

Did the Jetsons even have neighbors? I don't remember.

Compare that to the Flintstones who know and depend on and love their neighbors to the Jetsons. They just had a robot maid and their contact with the outside world was filtered through glass tubes.

It was a glimpse of the social alienation of the future.

God I miss the Flintstones. I hope there's a return in thw not too distant future. Something more than just a couple of odd comic books. I want em to be big again. Toys everywhere. Kids' favorite cartoon, but something their parents can enjoy too.

Basically the polar opposite of every kids show these days.

agreed

jetsons wins because if there is one thing we can all agree on, it’s that poor people are gross.

This is just as lopsided as that Ori / Oddworld comparison.

I enjoyed the Jetsons but Goerge didn't have any friends outside of Astro.
