Hi GAF,

Do you think these Infinity Primus' are any good?

First tragedy, then farce.
They have pretty decent reviews on AVS for an entry level floorstanding speaker.

They seem to be actual floorstanding speakers as well. Most at this price range are simply bookshelves with some extra MDF on the bottom to make them "floorstanding".

I would want to couple a sub with them as they don't get low enough on their own.

Only knock I could find against them is that the build quality leaves something to be desired. So you may want to keep that in mind if you have large dogs/kids.

Other than that you should be good to go.

Or you could just by SVS SCS-01's. They are bookshelves but they are godly and should be around that price.

i have a pretty good 10" Velodyne sub stored away in the garage. Looking forward to dusting it off. Do you have any recommendations as regards 5.1 receivers?

This is a very good receiver that can decode all of the HD audio formats internally.

It also uses Burr Brown DAC's on every single output. Yamaha has very clean power and this things amp should be plenty big to push the speakers you are throwing at it.

Receiver should be fine for the speaker efficiency (93dB), but if you're going to be running 5 or 7ch music at louder volumes, just to note, the amp mentioned above I believe does 45wpc with all channels driven with a 1KHz or 5KHz test tone...
