So, how much has City spent on their defense thse past 2 years? Danilo + Stones + Mendy + Kyle Walker, all at many millions of €/£....

Not to mention guys like Otamendi and Mangala

Mangala - 25.93m
Otamendi - 37.91m
Stones - 47.26m
Walker - 43.35m
Danilo - 25.50m
Mendy - 48.88m

In pounds, from Transfermarkt.co.uk, brings it to a nice total of 228.83 million since the 14/15 season on defenders alone.

Plus £18mill on Claudio Bravo, £7mill on Caballero, £34mill on Ederson, and paying wages for Joe Hart on loan for a couple of seasons.

Wow. If going by value alone they should have a fantastic defense. Alas, money really isn't everything.

Young and decent. I watched a few games of his and he seems to make a lot of mistakes, needs a leader next to him.

He's being described as someone who can play on the left side of the defence, as a centre back or a defensive midfielder.

If he's playing defensive midfielder, then have the leaders, in Jason Puncheon, Mighty Luka Milivojevic, and even Yohan Cabaye (if he stays).

If he's playing centreback, then we have Scott Dann and Damien Delaney, although the latter seems to have had his best years as a footballer.

Doubt that he will play left defender, as we spent £20+ on Jeffrey Schlupp and Patrick Van Aanholt on that position in januari, even if they weren't De Boer's signings.

Yeah Delaney has to be done - the lad must be signing as a CB with Sahko not an option as well.

People thought he would be released after the last season, but was supringsly given a new contract. Could have been from the owner, Steve Parish, who doesn't want to many of the old squads leaders to leave at the same time.

I want Sakho at Palace, but with the rumours that we're close to announcing Callum Chambers, I cant see us spending £9m on Riedewald, £20+ on Chambers, and then up to £30m on Sakho, while still needing a new right back/right wing back, a new goalkeeper, and two new strikers (of which have been linked with none so far).

And still haven't solved the problem of Kompany. Txiki is so shit. There are so many problems caused due to his inability to sign the right kind of players.

If you look at the squad as a whole the main spine of Kompany, Toure, Silva and Aguero all came from Marwoods signings and he got pushed out in 2012. Almost every area in the squad got weaker under Txiki until Pep came along.

Defence: Hired crap and massively overpaid, ignored the wing back positions until there were no options and got bent over by Tottenham and Monaco (though those signings are almost perfect). Issue of Kompany is still a massive problem even though he has known since 2015 that Kompany has serious muscle problems. Stones is ok however he has a lot of development to do but that is a Pep player.

Central Midfield/Defensive Midfield: Apart from Fernandinho (who he also massively overpaid for at the time) the signings have been lack lustre. Still relying on Yaya to dictate the pace of play. Delph and Fernando are very likely to get sold this window and have basically done nothing since they arrived. Gundogan is a great signing but has been injured and only joined due to Pep.

Attacking Midfield: Before it became known that Pep was coming the only player he signed in the position was Navas. Since Pep that area of the squad has got strong but one signing prior to him is a joke. Only reason we got KdB and Sterling was because of Pep.

Forwards: Before he came the line up was Aguero, Dzeko, Tevez and Ballotelli. They all left except Aguero, he brought in Jovetik who hardly played and Negredo who looked great for half a season then that was him done. Iheanacho was great but has rarely played and likely to be sold. Again it wasn't until Pep that Jesus was signed.

If City want to be a top quality squad in all competition they need to get rid of a lot still and strengthen. Both Chelsea and Tottenham have more balanced squads and unless the centre backs and centre midfield is sorted they will remain to do so.

(The keeper issue is all Peps problem though. However I have a feeling Bravo will come good this year and adjust to the league like most from La Liga do in the second year.)

for 45m you could buy the entire squad of the la liga team which inevitably thrashes everton in the europa league knockouts next season

City are literally spending more on defence than some actual countries. Here a list in $ converts to £190m for the biggest spender lol

If they aren't a Guinean journalist does it really mean anything?

This should hopefully be the last bid we need to move on.
