In no universe Atletico were better in the second leg. If you play that match like 100 times in the way it was played, Liverpool win it 98 times. Football is an awesome sport because that 2% thing could always happen, but let's not make shit up.

I completely disagree. If you play that match like 100 times in the way it was played, Atlético win it 99 times out of 100. Atlético won BOTH legs for a reason, they were better defenders than Liverpool attackers and topped it by having an efficient attackers while Liverpool failed on defense.
Liverpool were touting that they don't lose a two leg tie and their home ground Anfied
Atlético smashed BOTH of these by defeating Liverpool in BOTH legs and smashing them in Anfield.

How the fuck do they win that match 99 times with 0 ball possession and getting outshot like 350-1? The gameplan worked, but you either didn't watch the match or are delusional to claim Atletico was better in that game. Like I said, the cruel beauty of football is that sometimes the lesser team wins and Atletico was very clearly the lesser team. It's nice when that happens, it's very brave and heroic, but it doesn't change how things are.

They won twice not once. It was not a fluke they won because they were better defenders than Liverpool attackers. You don't need the ball or any possession to defend, Liverpool attackers were not good enough for Atlético all mighty defense, in fact Liverpool had ZERO shots on goal for the entire first game to boot!

It's called defensive football and Atlético defense was superior to Liverpool attack
In fact Atlético attack was superior to Liverpool attack
1-0 + 2-3 = 4-2
Atlético scored 1 and conceded 0 in the first game
Atlético scored 3 and conceded 2 in Anfield (the touted ground as hell by Liverpool)

Atlético defense and attack > Liverpool defense and attack

Yes I watched both games. I just understand defensive football just as good as I understand offensive football.

I'm not talking about the first game, I agree that Atletico was better in the first game. I'm talking about the second one. Liverpool were clearly the better side, they dominated the game and Atletico didn't play winning football. They got by because this is why sports are played and not simply studied, because random shit happen. But to claim that Atletico outplayed Liverpool in the second leg is absurd, it didn't happen. What they did wasn't defensive football, they had no plan with the ball and got a legendary performance by the keeper to keep them in the match. But make no mistake, A LOT had to go right for them to get that game. It just so happened that it.

I'm not even taking anything away from Atletico. They showed some great mental fortitude to stay in it. However, they were not the better side, not by a long shot. If they play that way again against pretty much any team left, they will get trounced.

This is a tie of two games and the final result (and who knocks who out) is the sum of the two games. your belief is that Atlético were better in the first game but Liverpool were better in the second game that would imply an equal showing over all but here you are calling Atlético the lesser team which implies that you think Liverpool were the better team over all. I'm sorry no they were not.

In the second game Atlético were already winning from the very first second of the game, they were already up 1 goal from the first game and in their mind they can be as patient as it need be to get an away goal they are not in a hurry which is why you felt they did not have a game plan. Their plan was to shut Liverpool out and IF there is a chance for an away goal to go for it but NOT to sacrifice their defense for a goal they don't need. The fact of the matter is Liverpool are the ones who needed to score not Atlético, Atlético scoring was nothing more than "sealing the deal" when the game started. Atlético is a defensive team so having the upper hand they went into the game with the mentality of "Liverpool show us what you got, we'll see if this Anfiled and your attack can break us and you failed miserably in the first game"

It was a match of Liverpool attack vs Atlético defense. And Atlético looked solid as a rock (yes the goalkeeper is part of the defense and was not lucky, he did his job and did it well)
Atlético defense was not ropy or shaky, they were a wall with the goalkeeper being the biggest stone in it.
You talk about Liverpool attack and chances yet Atlético are the ones who scored 4 to Liverpool 2
Atlético don't care if you have the ball (if you watch them regularly you would know) they only care if they are losing the game or the tie and looking at the game in Anfield when Atlético needed 1 goal they went ahead and scored THREE instead of 1

EDIT: I forgot to comment on the last part of your post. Have you seen the giant clubs that Atlético played in the last decade in the UCL and knocked them out? You can't be serious. Atlético knocks out clubs in UCL year in and year out for a while and Liverpool were easier for them to knock out than say Bayern when they played them.

You're not solid as a rock when your keeper is the best player in the pitch by a country mile. Atletico played better in the first game, Liverpool thoroughly outplayed them in the second game to the point where they were the better side by a comfortable margin and Atletico advanced because football is beautiful and quite random at times. That's pretty clear when you look at the numbers, do you need me to post them?

I disagree again. The keeper did not receive any shots he could not handle but he stopped all the manageable shots directed at him. If the shots were hard for the goalkeeper to handle then yes the defense failed him but that was not the case. Watching the match none of Liverpool shots looked scary and do you know why? because the defense did not leave any room to Liverpool attackers to be comfortable shooting. The defense and the goalkeeper worked together as one unite not as two separate lines of defense (again you need to watch more of Atlético to see that this is always how they play)

Atlético knocked Liverpool out because they were the better team winning both games.
Liverpool is attacking team so they did attack
Atlético is a defensive team so they defended
You seem to be hung up that the fact that Atlético allowed Liverpool to attack all they want to mean that Liverpool were better. No, Atlético defended like they always do and scored when they need three times the amount of goals they needed when they needed them.
here is the numbers: Atlético beat Liverpool 1-0 then beat them again 2-3
Want more detailed numbers? sure I'll post them myself

I'm not talking results here brother, I'm talking performance. Liverpool ended with 34 fucking shots and over 70% ball possession. This is not due to "style", Atletico were dominated. It was a pretty jarring difference but again, football is great because of this. Can't you just be happy that Atletico won instead of insisting on something that didn't happen?

Brother having possession is the tool of an attacking team
Not caring about possession is what every defensive side do
The unstoppable force meeting the unmovable object
the fact that the unstoppable force was coming relentlessly at the unmovable object does not mean the unmovable object was being dominated. Did the unstoppable force crack or scared the unmovable object? it did not, thus me saying the unmovable object being comfortable winning this battle and would have won it several times over especially with how the unmovable object had no problems scoring at all when needed.
And shooting into the void is easy since even your goalkeeper can have a "shot" on the stat sheet by shooting a shot that has zero chance of getting into the net
the shots that matter are the shots on target since those had hope of being goals
I assume you only care about shots in the second leg, shots on target: Liverpool had 11 shots on target while Atlético had 6 shots on target and Atlético scored 3 out of those 6 while Liverpool scored 2 out of those 11.
most of Liverpool shots were into the void with zero hope going into the net

Can't you just be happy that Atletico won instead of insisting on something that didn't happen?

I don't know why you insist that my point of view on the matter is imaginary while yours is fact. I'm not alone in my conclusions about the game and yes I'm sure you are not alone in your conclusions about the game either but majority of the neutrals share my view or close to it while majority of those sharing your views are Liverpool fans so there is bias for sure.

Would you complain to EA/Konami that they shorthanded your stats in the game?

Of course. One of the perks of being a pro footballer; AFAIK Rio Ferdinand once wrote to EA that his speed stats were way too low (and a fair complaint, as Rio was exceptionally quick and agile for a CB of his size)

Friend that's not how it happened. There's no consensus among neutrals other than "Liverpool got fucked LMAO" and there were like 10 chances by Liverpool in the second leg that realistically could have been goals. Atletico won because they executed their plan well enough, Liverpool sucked ass in the first game and the second game was full of fuck shit fuck randomness.

This is going nowhere fast so let's just agree to disagree. I do respect the guts by Atletico and I'm still angry about that Ramos goal. That game shouldn't have ended like that. I'm a Liverpool fan, but I like Atletico and Simeone, they've won a lot in a unique way that's for sure.

In my opinion Liverpool this season is far better than Liverpool last season so you have stepped up your game which must feel grand for you. I already said in the thread that you deserve the BPL this season so I hope it is not voided and that you get your trophy.

Ramos goal as in that final against Real Madrid?

As a United fan I selfishly hope that the PL gets voided so we can make fun of Liverpool's empty PL cabinet, but even I admit that would be pretty grossly unfair against Liverpool.

If we can get football back again, I'm kinda excited for the United team--they seemed to have found their midfield balance, although the reintroduction of Pogba might necessitate a somewhat different strategy.

Not sure. Although from what I've seen regarding FIFA Online (in Asia), he is one of the quickest CBs in the game.

It would be funny to know what EA response was hoped you knew :messenger_beaming:

May god hear you man, if they void the PL I might quit football altogether lol. Magic number for a Liverpool trophy is 6 points, they just need to eke out a couple of wins and that's that. They have been in a bit of a lull lately, but this team played some insane football. The game against Manchester City early on, the one against Leicester, the second one against United. Their peaks are just pure football brilliance, they deserve to have that run rewarded. Whenever it happens it does not matter, but it needs to happen.

Yeah, that UCL final against Madrid. That was such a heartbreaker and honestly fuck that Real Madrid team lol.

Do you them making UCL spot in this season or the next?

They were on a good run of form after signing Bruno Fernandes and had a comparatively soft schedule compared to their competitors for the CL spots, so I think they had a legit chance at CL spots this season (even better chance if City's appeal didn't succeed, although who knows with that). They finally looked just a little bit like the United of the mid and late 00's--daring, tireless, believing.

Plus, they were doing this without Rashford and with Daniel James playing with a pair of blinders on whenever he approached the box.

I feel pretty bad for Ighalo most of all--a lifelong United fan who was in China, miraculously got his move to his dream club, was playing pretty well in his role, and then a fucking plague wipes out the season.

No need to quit, this Liverpool team can win another BPL anyway but I think you deserve this year trophy too so you will get your trophy either way so cheer up.

United have the funds to pull themselves up they just need a better board to go back to being a usual UCL team. Getting a good board is hard so your club owners can fix the club or break it.

Funds have not been the primary issue--they had no problem shelling out for players, they just shelled out for players that either didn't want to be there (ex. Di Maria), were simply bad (Alexis), or got misused (Lukaku, to a lesser extent Matic although he's had a renaissance in the last few months). They definitely need a better board and an overarching strategy, which I think they were on the way to developing with Solskjaer at the helm--like it or not, he seems capable of working with the board as opposed to clashing with it (Mourinho and to a lesser extent LVG).

But the ownership problem is not going to change--the Glazers are who they are, and they're not gonna give up a HUGE cash cow. For all the schtick that Chelsea got, at least Roman wanted to put out the best club and win things, not just siphon profits. I'm pretty jealous of Liverpool's current setup at the moment as well--FSG really seems like they know when to intervene and when to let others sort it out, and I've always been a fan of Klopp's style since his Dortmund days. Shame that he manages Liverpool :)

LOL now that I didn't see coming. That goal was so evil man, like you could see in the body language of the Atletico players their souls leaving their bodies. It was similar to the last Super Bowl where you could tell that a team thought they won and then they KNEW they lost it. It's such a sad thing to witness.

Anyway, I hope you're right about Liverpool winning another PL. I really hope it doesn't come to that. It will be interesting to see if that is an organized decision or not, like will they cancel just a few leagues or will they cancel them all. Even the UCL could be at risk.

Your board is working for marketing and advertisement instead of sport which is why United tumbled down the way it did.

As for the owners well I'm VERY grateful that my club is owned by us the fans and that our president actually care and put his heart and soul into the club. He started off wrong too making pure business decisions but he learned fast and truly love the club so I'm happy with him :messenger_smiling:

They have all the summer to sort it out, I think at the very minimum UCL will be played.

Yes United looked better recently than they were at the start of the season but looking at the table I think getting into European spots is crucial at this point but as fans you need to keep the pressure up.

That UCL final made me retroactively hate that CR7 Real Madrid team and all of their titles leading up to that moment lol. Every night I'm going to bed scared to have nightmares about Karius being back.

Karius is on loan and will be back at Liverpool :messenger_smiling_horns:
That being said mistakes happen, yes I know what was on stake that night made Liverpool fans close their hearts to Karius forever but people should always remember it is never the end of the road. Football will continue and you will get more chances if you keep up the good work. And see you got the that trophy the next year anyway :pie_thinking:

Fabrizio Romano: Juventus want to sign Paul Pogba again. Man Utd would demand 100 million Euros

He's getting a bigger salary every time so he's fine
his agent getting a fat fee every time so he's happy
Pogba is a moody player where his mood effect how he play and he would absolutely destroy you team performance if he's in a bad mood
as long as he does not come to Real Madrid I'm fine :messenger_relieved:

They did get banned from it for a reason.

They are contesting that ban to CAS
and those clubs sending a letter to CAS in support of the ban.

Yeh, I just meant asking for it to be upheld seems reasonable. Among other things they were paying people like Mancini through multiple clubs. Everyone has known for years that they were fucking about with their finances and now they’ve been caught out.

This case look to be a good motivator for their team to try and win the UCL this season though.
I think the ban should stand personally but who knows what will happen with CAS

Spanish FA [RFEF] has announced a €500 million bailout to the country's first and second division clubs to cope with the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Hopefully this will help the struggling clubs in the face of the financial troubles due to the coronavirus

I quite liked LVG at United, even though the football became absolutely dire near the end. He seemed like a good guy, if a bit uneven and unhinged. Seriously, how can you not love this:
giphy.gif

Also, his reference to Chris Smalling as "Mike" will always be funny to me.

Back on topic, if Pogba wants to go to Juve, let him for a hefty price. Bring in someone younger and hungrier with those funds, find a balance of skill and grit, someone who can interplay with Bruno Fernandes and bring out the best in Martial and Rashford. James should be a spot starter/spark off the bench at his current level.

If United actually get Jadon Sancho or Federico Chiesa, I'd be pretty damned thrilled.

Pogba is a nice player but he has blown hot and cold for United. United sold him a fairytale and didn’t deliver. Mourinho sold him down the river. I read quotes from Fabregas today that one of the reasons he wanted out of Arsenal was that he felt himself, RVP and Nasri were the only ballers there. I imagine Pogba might feel the same at United. It is better with the introduction of Fernandes and our defence is better, but... As a United fan I’m about 80/20 on wanting him out. You reach a point where he just isn’t worth the aggro. I don’t trust that the 2 parties can turn it around.

I‘d be 100% happy for him to leave if they would spend the Pogba money before selling him. Lord knows if United sell him for 100-120mil every team would want some of that. Unfortunately I don’t trust those in charge to ever do anything in a smart fashion.

He was funny and entertaining but the results were not to United liking and to be honest I feel the players were not doing their best too.

The thing with this is that you risk paying a large sum for a potential talent that end up not good enough wasting your money and time in the process. pros and cons everywhere.

Pogba has the potential and the talent but imho does not have the professionalism to do his best on the field no matter who he plays with. Even if the players around him are not as good as he was promised imho he should still do his best while he is at the club and leave whenever he wants given he actually do his best while still there. He does not do that and instead kill the team already bad performance.

He's not the only player that was by the way as Di Maria is another example of this type of players. We sold him and the world were laughing at us saying we sold our team engine while I at the time was more than fine seeing him go for a nice price because he played to his mood instead of always doing his best like a professional.

Sure the club should aspire to be better but Pogba did not do his part of deal being the opposite of a professional so don't absolve him of his share of this mess that is United.

Yeah, it did seem like his schtick had worn thin with the players. Still, United did him dirty when they told him directly after winning the FA Cup that he'd be gone. That's not cool.

The thing with this is that you risk paying a large sum for a potential talent that end up not good enough wasting your money and time in the process. pros and cons everywhere.

But you could argue the same for a "proven" talent that doesn't fit in. Di Maria, Schweinsteiger, Sanchez, Lukaku (although I don't put Lukaku in the same category as the other 3 performance-wise, the money spent is not up to his level of performance at United) are all examples of "proven" talents that cost big bucks but haven't delivered.

And that's why I've made my personal, internal peace with him being gone.

He made the training plans for the start of the next season camp and everything too then he was sacked and refused to leave the building before his lawyer arrived IF I remember correctly. It was a drama show :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Yes hence "pros and cons everywhere"
you almost had Kroos but then you sacked Moyes and he changed his plans :messenger_beaming:

At Juve there is a high chance he will get his ego massaged properly and start performing again :pie_thinking:

And that's why I hate this current board and that clown Ed Woodward. Although it seems like he's been doing a better job in the previous two windows (although the transfers probably could have been wrapped up a bit earlier),.

I have my doubts as to whether Kroos would have become the player he is now if he was playing under Moyes' dreadful gameplan.

It's fun to speculate in these quarantined times.

I feel in the last two windows he was told to spend less and thus tried to find potential talent. those players tend to have more drive than a lot of the big stars because they have something to prove.
I think Woodward biggest achievement though was smashing that FAX machine :messenger_hushed:

Thankfully he flourished in our team and did wonders and he's a Madrid legend now :messenger_sunglasses:

And in the summer, except if it is was about your team players that you want to keep.

Speaking of which, who were the reported targets for Real Madrid in the summer before things went crazy? I hadn't kept up with transfer speculation.

Gary Neville admits to purposely leaving the grass long at the Mestalla for a Liga meeting with Real Madrid: Cristiano came over to me before the game and said 'it's a disgrace, cut the pitch' - I said 'absolutely no chance'. There was no way he was dribbling that night

In the end it was a draw 2-2

Mane was rumored for a bit, not sure how much truth there is to that. I really hope Liverpool keeps that trio for a long time, such an explosive combination of skills and not much overlap between them. They all contribute with something different and that's part of what makes this Liverpool team so good, there just isn't any redundancy between them especially when Fabinho was fit.
