I used to think that Fraunhofer encoder was the best encoder for 128kbps MP3 compression in general, but upon doing some research online, some sites (like free-codec) are saying that the new LAME encoder is now the best for 128kbps.

I gotta compress some WAV files for myspace.com but I wanna get the best possible 128.

LAME has been best for a long while now.

Definitely LAME. Go with 3.96.1, it's the best with lower bitrates. Hell, it's the best all-around.
