Ok, I have since come around to this game and have it along with Fire Emblem Engage on pre order. I do still wish they would give her some more fantasy like clothing, though. Start with the shoes. The Cloak looks cool, but the rest of it is too drab looking, imo. Props to the dev and art team for not making the MC look kind of ugly, like they did Aloy in Horizon Zero Dawn.

Combat does look cool, but there's just something about this game that gives me pause and I can't put my finger on what. Ill probably check it out on PC though unless reviews are just disastrous.

Looks amazing, but really complicated to control with all the options at your disposal.

I don’t know why folks constantly 💩 on the game. It was the same way with strangers of paradise (which was fucking awesome btw if you like arpgs). Happy it’s shaping up to be a fun/good looking game.
I think people are too caught up on disliking the graphics, story and dialogue(which can be turned off) to notice how fun the gameplay looks. There's also a small part of the bashing because of "woke" paranoia from manchildren.

Anyone who is expecting a good story will probably be heavily dissapointed. The focus is on the gameplay and traversal with the story acting as a vehicle for the gameplay.
Pretty much this.

We already know the story is gonna be some cringe shit if the writing we saw thus far is anything to go by.

This is more of a gameplay centric game and probably the only reason to play it.

Even the graphic is so so except for some nice looking magic abilities (mostly the water ones)

I keep saying this but for a studio once known for an engine managing awesome lighting effects it really looks ugly as fuck in that regards here. Everything's so dark and brown hurt my eyes.

I do wish that instead of what looks like a spell wheel, we could just push the buttons like in dragons dogma. The spell wheel reminds me of the arrow crafting in Horizon Zero dawn, which I did not really like to be honest. Unless there are shortcuts? Do not want to spend time in the thick of battle changing a spell to somethingt else if I can help it.

You don't have all the powers enabled at all time, you have to chose what to equip at any given moment, so no 4 buttons combinations to fire spell number 83 if this was your problem.

Also you are gonna unlock the various type of magic during the course of the game, you don't have 100 spells to learn from the get go, that would be overwhelming.

The trailer just show how many things you can do but it hardly gonna request to fire 50 different spells to kill some enemies.

Yeah. Playing action heavy games like this for the plot is like watching porn for the plot.

The graphics is kind of all over the place. The particle effects look state of the art with some of the spells, most textures look about average but theres some textures here and there which look almost 7th gen tier bad. But I don't really care about graphics as long as the gameplay is solid. The particle effects are what pop out the most during battles anyway and they look very impressive here.

I agree with this complaint actually. This is one of the few things which i'm sceptical of, theres going to be lots of time wasted in the spell menu and it will break the flow of combat. They should have just went with button shortcuts. Like L1 for red magic then L1 + face button for which red magic you want to use for example. You would be able to fit way more spells on a loadout this way and able to instantly use them on the fly.

Just looking better and better. I have had this hunch this might be a sleeper hit similar to Ghost of T that started off looking so-so in early footage and ended up fantastic. Every new piece of footage strengthens that feeling.

I can't lie, the fact spells are isolated things kinda puts me off.

I was sort of expecting combos n shit.

Funny how you "muh woke" weirdos keep saying you don't want non white males "taking over your games" and say they should have their own games as an argument then when that actually happens you still cry about it. Go cry about it on /v/.

I'm genuinely surprised this is an 18 rated game, as I'm watching the trailer and I feel like it's being narrated for children's fantasy cartoon or something.

I like the main character design/look a lot though, not so much the dialogue from past trailers though.

Ah well, hopefully it turns out decent as it will be something else to look forward too in the future.

I so want to be into this game as I adore the genre.

The traversal and combat look fun. The visuals are impressive. The production value and quality on display is evident.

With that being said something feels a little off. The world seems uninspired. Barren. The story/dialogue we were shown was awful. Since the initial demo they haven't shown us anything further regarding the characters or story. That worries me a little to the point I won't consider picking this up until I see reviews.

But can you really do that when you have 100 spells?

You still need to enter a menu to change the type of attack that are not covered by button combinations.

Especially if this is a proper action rpg with enemy elemental resistance etc.

There is so much you can't cover with r1+ 4 buttons and l1+4 buttons, and when you need to push more than 2 buttons to fire a simple magic spell it kinda become bad to me, i prefer the wheel at that point.

The protagonist swear more than a drunk sailor during a COD match.

Environments in this one are some of the most unimaginative I've seen in a modern (supposedly) AAA game. Up there with the likes of Saints Row or Gotham Knights.
I think it shares the same universe as Sonic Frontiers. Maybe they’ll announce a co-op mode where the other player can be Sonic!

Man the combat in this game looks fantastic.

Visuals look dated as fuck. I wish they had stuck with the fantasy almost cartoony artstyle of FF15. The somewhat realistic setting doesnt really look good.
Its the FFXV style environments and jank that feel off. And I don't really like Isekai themes, though Stranger of Paradise was kind of fun. Combat does look good.

No which is why I mentioned you could fit more spells, not all. But it would still be a much better solution imo since you can access a much higher quantity of spells on the fly.

Maybe if they also used the D-pad+4 buttons as well it could cover all the different elements and then considering that holding down buttons is confirmed to change your spell it could squeeze in over half the total roster of about 100 spells.

Looks like one of those games that are fun to play but awful to listen to. I'll be waiting for this one to hit the PS Premium.

Tbh i never had problems with weapon wheels so for me it's really not a big deal.

For me it just breaks the flow of combat, especially when it slows down or freezes time. I wouldn't mind it if it was a cover shooter or a game like horizon zero dawn though where fights are meant to be slower and more strategy based.

I think the video overly exagerate how often you have to open the wheel.

You are probably gonna use the 3-4 magic that you like more or feel better to use 50% of times and use the others to experiment or against specific enemies.

I'm not gonna swap 30 different spells for a 3 min combat scenario.

Now, if the fire button is just one unlike infamous and you actually have to open the wheel for every single different magic than maybe we have a problem, i assume that there is gonna be a couple of button combo to press instead of having one single button for attacks.

Yeah I suppose so. You could try to work around it by just packing what element you need for each areas.

This is what happens when you make the protagonist a female and even worse black....it's becomes a bland, empty, soulless, worthless looking game. Imagine supporting this and then complaining about why gaming is what it is today.......you know, tons of black female protagonists.

Ridiculous.....you don't even try to hide it. Are you racist, sexist or both?

With 100 spells it would hard to have to cycle through all of them without the wheel. But you can map magic to sets and quick swap them with d-pad without having to bring up the wheel everytime.

"Pressing R1 and L1 brings up a selection wheel for your current set, slowing down time in the process. If you press L1+R1 together, you can switch between spells sets, or use the D-pad to instantly swap to the next one. It's a fast and responsive system that encourages experimentation."
"Using the bumpers you're able to pick your spells on the fly with radial menus (which slows the action down slightly for you) or quickly switch sets, and there are even some spells that cause your set to switch automatically which helps to set up some fun follow-up attack strings."
You can see the quick spell switch happening here

What if everything was the exact same but with a different character model?

Easy now guys no need to get emotional. At least try to be civil and tell me your pronouns.
