The Open Beta starts on May 22nd at 9AM PT, and will stay live through the launch of the full game this summer. The Open Beta has way more than our last Alpha this past February, and it still doesn't have everything that will be in the full version of the game at launch (Splitfam, keep that quiet–all shall be revealed soon). For now, we want to tell you about some of the exciting new features in the Open Beta.

Really don't like that they ditched the arena shooter style of the first game for that of a hero shooter with abilities and all that crap. Loved the first game, played it for hundreds of hours and got all achievements including win 1047 matches. Only reason I stopped was lack of players here in Australia. Can't see myself playing this. Did not enjoy the beta at all.

if it dosnt come out with ranked ill get bored so fast like every other game that dosnt come out with ranked :(
 
Downloading now on my PS5 - hope it's still like Halo with portals. Never played the first one.

the BR mode is actually kinda decent. in that mode at least there are no loadouts and unlockable weapons bullshit.
also the limited portals make it way more tolerable.

the main game modes are utter trash tho, due to loadouts, the weapon and perk unlock bullshit, and the unlimited portal spam

Some of the rotating modes can be fun. There was one that gave you random weapons every time you respawned. Snipers and shotguns was also good.

I've only played a few rounds of BR but it seems to work well.

Downloaded this to see how the art style landed compare: to the first for skins.

I've never seen a more uglier set of character skin options in any game ever made. Who is paying for this shit?

Luckily it's a FPS which means you don't see your character 90% of the time anyway, but fire the fucking art team for this game entirely.

Performance on last-gen is the worst of any game. You thought Skyrim PS3 was terrible with 0 fps? This does that constantly in BR, esp when crossing worlds.

Shame, because outside it can run okayish.

That's not exactly accurate. There are no heroes, legends, operators, etc in the game. There are a total of three classes, and that's it. Rather than factions, they should have just had players select what "gear" abilities they want to use. It would have been the same exact thing, but it would have avoided this "hero shooter" mindset. This isn't Apex or Siege where they're going to be releasing new characters all the time.

I should have said "like a hero shooter". The first game had no abilities and no classes just a player with their two portals and whatever weapons you find like the arena shooters of old. Either way, the game stinks in comparison to the first.
