FPS on DS

I can only think of two FPS on DS, Metroid Prime Hunters and Rogue Agent. Surely there must be more than that right? I must be missing something, since I have come to the conclusion the DS was made for FPS. The stylus absolutely rocks for aiming (and in my opinion even manages to beat the mighty mouse) and the system can push some pretty good graphics around, as Hunters can testify.

So where are the rest of them at? Hell, even the GBA had more FPS announced at the stage in its life. Any chance we'll see an explosion of them when no-line rolls around at the end of the year? Or should I give up on my dream of a Quake III fragfest in the hands?

In a related note, I got that new GBA FPS game, Ice Nine in the mail today, and was playing it on my DS.

Ehhh, not what you were talking about, I know.

I'm surprised Torus games is still around. Not that they don't have talent, I think they do, but their games could not have possibly sold that well.

Which scheme? There were like 5, and one in particular was pretty f-cking awesome. Can't remember what it was called.

dude are u kidding me? This system hasn't even been out for a year. So what if the GBA had more FPS' at this time in it's development. Seeing as how the only thing it has in common is that it's a Nintendo Handheld, this is a totally different generation of console. You can't compare the DS with the GBA. I find it pretty impressive for 2 graphic intense FPS' to be released on a system as young as the NDS.

My question is where are all the FPS titles for PSP? True the DS is perfect with the stylus and all, but I would love to see some beautiful shooters on the PSP screen.

Are you kidding? The default scheme was excellent, better than any I've experienced on a console or another handheld.

A bit off topic, but if wi-fi play is supposed to be easy to implement, why can't they do it for Hunters? I'd rather have a delay than no Wi-Fi.

I really liked the control in the demo. It's a shame the FPS front is so light on DS as of yet. At least the RTS genre is starting to get attention on the system. Next stop, point and click adventure gaming on the go.

my main problem with using the DS as an analog stick is that my hand quickly gets off center and I run out of real estate to use.. plus, if Im not paying attention, its pretty easy to accidently hit one of the onscreen buttons that are on the touch screen (or turn into a ball). I think its a bad idea to use the touch screen as a big open area you move your thumb across without looking at it AND have the touch screen have onscreen buttons.

Indeed. I hope all DS FPS games have an option to move the touchscreen buttons over to either the D-pad or the ABXY buttons, depending on which side you're using for movement.

That means you, MP Hunters!

I had a problem with losing my "center" with such games as Mario and Rayman, but not Metroid, honestly. Either with the thumbstrap or the stylus.

maybe you just suck at games? ;-)

Try a different scheme if the one you're using sucks.
I aim with the sylus, shoot with L, and move with the D pad.

Ditto, the control is flawless. Only problem is that when I played, it was a stationary kiosk. Not sure how this will all work if I was actually standing or sitting around playing the game... My hands tend to be a little shaky when holding something with just one of them.

what the Hell, the control is awful
how do you actualy Hold the DS for any legnth of time, its offcenter
and the platforming, argh

gimme dual Analog with aim Assist, thanx

Weak hands? I don't have any problem platforming, controlling, or holding.

I keep hoping more companies will announce FPS titles for DS using a similar control scheme. That Goldeneye game looks pretty crappy unfortunately, which leaves Metroid Prime Hunters as the only other one announced. Granted, it's looking pretty swank thus far but I'd definitely like to see more. Maybe Activision could do some ports of it's older PC stuff. A Quake/Quake II double cart would sell like nobody's business. I'd imagine getting a software rendered Unreal on it would be fairly possible as well.

At least it's not disappointing on the strategy front so far. Although I'd really love to see a Starcraft port if done right.

Hunters won't have Wi-Fi multiplayer. This is confirmed. Sorry. There's always the sequel.

It's unfortunate that the only FPS games we're going to see on the DS in the immediate future are going to be ports of console games. Since there aren't any multi-platform big-name FPS games on the horizon, there aren't going to be any FPS DS games. I say this because publishers are going to be on the fence about it until they see how well Hunters does, then maybe we'll see original games (with Wi-Fi) for the system.

I love that.

Actually, I'm a bit surprised how scarce fps are on both DS & PSP, given how quick GBA gots tons of them (DOOM 1-2, Ecks Vs Sever 1-2, Duke Nukem, Serious Sam, Wolfenstien, 007 NightFire, Backtrack, etc).

DS really would be perfect for ports of last gen fps like Goldeneye, 007 EON, Quake, Duke Nukem, Doom 64, Perfect Dark, Turok 1-3, South Park, etc. DS does have a first person RPG though, in the form of Deep Labyrinth.

Give me something like Perfect Dark, or even something even relatively close, & I'll be satisfied. (*prays*) And how well did those fpsers perform commercially jarrod?

Turoks gonna be a disney PG cartoon character now though, heh.
He's gonna be shooting nerf guns, not bows and arrows.

Splinter Cell on the DS has some first person shooter parts, apparently:

:lol Sorry... I couldn't help myself, I had to do caption those!
