Should I actually try this out? I only vaguely remember watching the show on HBO. Would it be any good today?

It's still a whole lot of fun, for a kids' show. But, I've still got a soft spot for the characters so it's probably not the best example. This is very much a set driven by nostalgia, but it's still some really entertaining stuff.

And I refuse to use Kermits...I sometimes wonder about these people.

Used to love that show on HBO as a kid. My favorite of the three big Henson TV series... It just had a more mysterious feel to it.

Cool, I had know idea this DVD was coming out. I love Fraggle Rock. I always felt bad for those little guys that built the clear structures only to have the Fraggle's eat them.

Dozers rocked, and I always wanted to eat some of that sugary stuff. Wembley made it seem delicious :)

...says the grown man posting a thread in anticipation of of Fraggle Rock: Season One on DVD

Grown is a bit of an overstatement, as I wasn't born when it premiered, but the fact remains that using Kermits to measure quality is a step I wouldn't take.

If you live in the LA area head to the Best Buy on Victory in the Woodland Hills area. I was in there yesterday picking up my copy of Late Registration and they had piles of Fraggle Rock dvds on their new release table. Scoop your copy soon before one of the few employees with a three-digit IQ realizes it doesn't come out until next week.

I absolutely positively cannot wait to get my hands on this. Fraggle Rock owned my childhood and I've been waiting for a season set for a long time. It's going to kick ass to relive the show and look at it from a different point of view.

So, did anybody pick this up? My copy should be getting here either tomorrow or Monday, but I was wondering if anyone had any impressions.

I picked it up yesterday and just sat down with the first two episodes. Damn, it's no wonder I loved this as a kid. It's still amazing, and I can't say that for a lot of the TV shows that I, and many people, enjoyed as kids. I hadn't seen an episode in at least a decade, so when that opening sequence popped up a big smile appeared on my face. While I'm not going to knock The Muppet Show which is great in its own way, I do have to say I like that Fraggle Rock is faster moving and a little livelier.

I haven't watched any of the special features, but suffice to say the episodes look and sound great and the show itself is fantastic. If you were a fan this should be a must buy.

Fraggle Rock, the Muppet Show, and Muppet Babies?
You missed perhaps the biggest: Sesame Street. Although, technically, that's not a show he created, he ended up basically the biggest influence on it in every way.

This finally came in the mail yesterday...and it's fantastic. I've seen some of these episodes over the last couple of years, but damnit they're still awesome. Big thumbs up to HiT and Jim Henson Company on this one.
