The theme on Monday’s Dancing with the Stars was “The Most Memorable Year.” But for Frankie Muniz, it’s not such a relatable theme.

Before opening the ABC show with a performance of the quickstep, Muniz revealed in his rehearsal video that he can’t remember most of the things he’s experienced in his life, including his six years on the Fox comedy Malcolm in the Middle. Muniz revealed that he’s suffered nine concussions and several “mini-strokes” but he can’t say for sure what prevents him from recalling the past, like when he did the sitcom from 2000 to 2006.

“It makes me a little sad,” said Muniz. “Things pop back into my mind [that] I should have remembered.”

The clip also included an interview with his former TV dad, Bryan Cranston, who marveled at how much Muniz has experienced so much in his life. “Frankie was a TV star, then he became a race car driver, and then a drummer in a rock band. I said to him, ‘What are you going to be next, an astronaut?'”

Cranston said he told Muniz not to worry about what he can’t remember. Cranston starred with Muniz in 151 episodes of Malcolm. “They are still [his] experiences,” Cranston said. “My job is to tell him to remember what happened on Malcolm in the Middle. What a life.”

Cranston is such an awesome human being. Too bad about Muniz. Wonder what he is up to. He should be good for life tho right?

Memory is such a crazy thing. All our actions mean nothing to us if we cant remember them.

Poor dude, I hope they find a cure for this. Cranston is a champ as always.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
Top Ten Tweeter of All Time, tho

no idea if this is real, but it will always make me laugh

aw man that's sad

i kind of relate having a terrible memory myself, it's always hard to remember things that have happened longer than 6 or so months ago

provided he doesn't burn through all his money quickly, yeah he's pretty set

I specifically rented the movie Stay Alive because Frankie was in it. That movie is the best kind of terrible. I still love watching it every now and again. Really unfortunate to hear about his memory issues.

Damn, that's sad. I knew he had a couple of mini strokes, but I didn't now about all that. He's still pretty young too so hopefully it's not permanent.

TBH, that's scary AF.

And the dude is only in his early 30s having these kind of memory lapses/gaps.

Hopefully he's mentally okay come old age. I don't know what else to say.

Holly shit.

He started collecting fast cars and racing them as a child like a kid buying hot wheels. Someone really should have sat him down and explained to him the difference.

You think that's scary?

Check out Siike Donnelly:

After suffering aneurysms, artist Siike Donnelly fights to remember how to draw

Donnelly suffered the most damage to his temporal lobe, where visual memory is located. That means it's for him to hold onto images, even after seeing something moments ago. For example: if you asked him what an apple looked like, he could describe it to you, but no image would come up in his head — that makes it difficult to draw.

"Closing my eyes and seeing something in my head — I can’t," he says. "It’s just darkness…literally blindness when I close my eyes."

Since then five other aneurysms have formed in Siike’s head, but doctors caught them before they ruptured.
For Siike, life is more like "Groundhog Day" than "Memento." He can create new memories but the visuals don’t stick. Initially he relied on a white board for clues. Crucial facts about his life—his name, who his mother is—were reduced to bullets points.

Jesus, I had no idea. That's a tough draw. I hope he can make memories that last going forward.
I guess, but makes me seriously worry where Muniz will be come his following years.

Like, this guy is still very much young yet (about a junior my age), and ALREADY having these kind of serious mental health problems at such a young age. I don't want to think about his next 30 years, and beyond.

I mean, I don't really remember much from my early teens either. But I have been wondering lately if my memory is up to snuff... Seems like whenever I hear people talk about TV shows they watched and whatnot they've got much better recall than I do.

Look, I'll never claim to have the world's best memory of all-time, and obviously, the human memory can very much be at fault to begin with... but the kind of stuff discussed here is scary AF. This is the kind of stuff you would expect to hear from a senior citizen in a home... not a young man who very much has more life if front him than behind him... or at least should.

Was getting caught part of your plan?
I came into this thread expecting some weird Shia Labeouf shenanigans, but the reality is way sadder.

Wait Malcolm in the Middle was only 6 seasons? I thought it was like 8 or 10.

Why did I think it was longer than it actually is and I've seen the entire show.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face

I reacted the same reading this. Mostly when I think of Francis' arc. Military school, Alaska, the ranch, his girlfriend/wife, whatever the hell it was that happened towards the end....that all really took place in just 6 seasons?

You made my laughed than I felt bad. Shame on you.

I hope Frankie will be alright. He seems like a decent dude at the very least. Shame for someone so young to be in such a state with his health.

I know right? I guess 6 years is definitely long enough for all of that to happen. I watched the entire series growing up, so I suppose that's why to me it seems like watching all the characters grow up and it make you feel like you spent a lifetime with them.

Like I remember Malcolm being in middle school, then he graduated high school at the end of the series. Man, the show was great.
