Free Citywide Wireless? Forget About It

Remember all those stories lately about how several cities have been trying to install citywide wireless networks to give free or cheap access? It seems that the telecomm companies are already hard at work to squash them through lobbying.

I guess it seems reasonable that perhaps the public sector shouldn't be taking away potential revenue sources in this way, but in my mind it still just seems to boil down to greed.
 
screw that... Hope the cities win out. Companies can offer more services to compete, faster gauranteed connections, etc.
 
Um, maybe if those companies in the private sector weren't gouging us on prices, it would be fair. But until they lower their prices, I am in full support of SanFran on this. PEACE.

I don't think free wireless is attainable, but any government body should be able to charge money to deliver any service it wants within its borders.
