Free Fiona, dammit

So if I read that right, there was the first version which she turned her back on. Then Mr. Hip Hop producer tried to make it more commerical. But finally, Fiona was given a chance to record it again?

I really dig the new versions honestly. The only really dissapointing cut is Oh Well. The rest are either superb to the original or different enough to stand apart from the Brion versions. Its kind of like a remix almost. It lost alot of the theaterical embelishments and picked up more of the electronic/hip hop style, but it remains just as crazy musically.

So this comes tomorrow.. on one hand I want to support Fiona but.. I don't know if I want to buy it.. I honestly think that the Brion version is perfect.. I'm sort of afraid to hear what they've done to "Oh Well" and "Red, red, Red," and "Used to Love Him..." Anyone know of any sales on this? I've got tons of things I want to get tomorrow and only like $30..

I'd like to listen to both versions. Is there a way to get ahold of the original material?

Another problem is if I like it and go buy it, will those whores at Sony get most of my money?

:(

I'm listening to this on her myspace site.. jesus christ.. they like took all of the power out of "oh Well." Ugh.. and they destroyed :Used to Love Him." The new "Window" is pretty alright, but I preferthe original.. "Partiung Gift" is pretty marginal.. I actually like the new "Better Version" more than the original though..

Man, you guys busting your nuts over this should hear about some of the truly nasty tactics the records companies use.

Take "Memo Signing" - A friend of mine was memo signed for 4 years (bad management advice got him to sign on the dotted...) - It took until about 18 months after the 'memo' expired before he found out that the only reason they'd 'signed' him was to stop other labels from signing him proper, they had no interest in his work, but were aware of another label that was ready to pounce on him. (Memo signing is a kind of "We'll kinda sign you, but commit to nothing).

Still, they do know how to throw a party, so they're not complete wastes of space ;P
