Free guy impressions

This movie was made by people who saw some stuff about twitch and game culture but has no idea how anything works.

Cringe as all fuck...no the plot not the gaming related stuff......nope the usual out of left field thrown in lines about "writing a piece on the patriarchy" and "oh actually gun violence is a problem" ...and everything about them you can tell is not only quickly written in but also the way they are acted in almost sound like adr they are so awkward. This happens a bunch of times.

"we cant boot her the account is spoofed" i can suspend my disbelief more in a james bond movie

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, it's cringe as fuck, some ropey as fuck videogame level CGI although that may be on purpose but underneath it it's got a heartwarming wee story and defo some lol moments

I expected more honestly. I cant say theres anything bad but its just so average in everything. Its like...ok a live video game, but its based on stupid repaetative humor. Its OK but i actually thought this was going to be like Ready Player One as in scope but it was quite meh.

It was cute and forgettable at the end of the day, but fun enough. Also worth it for seeing the cringy nerd hate comments it generated, just like someone already has in this thread!

This was fucking garbage.

Pretty disappointing and not at all what the trailer promised.
There are a couple of decent jokes in there, but the gaming elements are way too cliché and the tame humor is ruined by its political correctness.
Including real life streamers was a horrible idea, doubly so for Pokémane and that dumb dude with the bandana.

Also, the movie is a love story in disguise and a pretty bad one at that. Even the every charismatic Ryan Reynolds can't save this one.

Had some expectations after watching some reviews, turns out I didnt like it that much. Thought it was kinda boring, the concept was intriguing, especially near the beginning. But after that it went downhill.

It was dumb but fun. It deteriorated completely towards the end and, sure, the whole thing is forgettable. Still there were funny lines, decent visual effects. They took way too many liberties with the tech/future tech stuff which also provided for a few laughs.

I'm probably not the intended young(er) audience.

Watched it today, probably straight off the bat from Once Upon a Time in America wasn't a good idea. Mildly amusing. Jodie Comer is as cute as buttons.

I thought it was pretty forgettable.
The plot is basic and bland, the humor mostly falls flat, Ryan Reynolds basically plays a nicer version of the same characters he always does, and the gaming stuff seems to be mainly aimed at the GTA Online / Fortnite crowd and never goes beyond surface level.

Felt like a dumbed down Truman Show for 13 years olds. Which is fine I guess, I just wasn't the target audience.

The "streamers" in the movie were real streamers, weren't they? I don't recognize any of them.
Marvel references were ok. The streamer stuff, though probably unavoidable considering the main theme of the movie, were cringe-inducing.

Watched about 20 minutes of it and tapped out.

Edit: The clip above is a perfect example of what Villenueve was talking about - it's a scene tailor-made for Disney zombies.
"Quick, we need applause! Throw in Captain America's shield! And then Chris Evans! Now a lightsaber!"
*drooling audience cheers*

Goddamn am I glad I stopped watching it.

The stuff in the game was mostly alright. All of the real-world stuff was weak, and the pop culture references, especially the inclusion of Twitch streamers, were awful enough to ruin the whole film.

And a special mention to Taika Waititi for one of the worst performances I've seen in some time. It's like he's starring in a completely different movie. Utter cringe.

I actually quite liked it but my impressions may have been colored by it being only the 2nd film I’ve seen in a theater since the pandemic.

I watched today and I didn't expect anything from this movie, but it turned out to be passable in the end. Nothing special but passable.

Cringe. If you like cringe, you will get some laughs. Some of it though was so cringey that I just got a migraine from watching it. Really feels like someone who knows nothing about games trying desperately to "Hey fellow kids" a movie into existence.

Also typical slacktivist-bent writing that permeated the film.

I'm retarded?
Funny, cringey, typical Reynolds humor. Enjoyed it for what it was. I laughed more at a background scene where a guy was lagging than the rest of the movie. 7/10

Super heroes are cool, and there are plenty of good movies revolving around them. Some garbage, too.

This looks like garbage.

This movie was like The Matrix and The Truman Show had a baby, and the baby was retarded, and it took a dump, and this movie was the dump. Also, Ryan Reynolds is dreamy. Roll on Deadpool 3, you Disney fuckers.

I watched both this and Wonder Woman 84 recently and after watching Wonder Woman the value of this movie skyrocketed.

But more on this, great, fun premise but it could have been executed better.
