I've been listening to this guy called MC Solaar and wow, just wow he rocks, I don't speak French and have no idea what he's singing about but it sounds so cool and so Fresh.

If there are any French hiphoppers here, please recommend me some French hiphop artists i should look out for.

the funny thing is i don't listen to hiphop nor do i even like rap, besides old skool Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul stuff from back in the day.

pasque la plan? :lol :lol :lol

I don't no any other French hip-hop artist by name, but after listening to MC Solaar all the others will disappoint you. He's like the Michael Jordan of French rap. I know he (MC Solaar) features some artist on some of his songs, you could always search the title of the song on google to find out what other artist was involved and go from there.

My favorite MC Solaar song is Dévotion

I don't really listen to hip-hop that much, but I don't hate it that much. Most of my hip-hop I got by accident or through gifts. Most of it is actually European too (go figure).

I have this album by Wax Tailor called "Tales of the Forgotten Melodies" that I happen to like a lot.

Not French, but Finnish, is Royal Family's "Pyöreän pöydän ritarit". I downloaded it by accident and I ended up liking it a lot.

If you are listening to good MC Solaar it's probably old skool MC Solaar (from 1990-1994) *ZING* His first 2 album were good the rest is crap.

IMHO the best french (read from France) Hip-hop is made by "La caution" & "TTC" (*EUROCRUNK* BITCH)

If you want a taste of TTC http://bandeapart.fm/concerts.asp?id=332 (Montreal july 2005)

Here you will be able to hear to some samples. The record is a little old, but OMG it's truly amazing.

Taxi soundtrack, the first film one. By one of the masterminds behind IAM.

Rocca and NTM.

This man speaks the truth. Great album (IAM).

I've worked with this guy, and thought he was ace, quite refreshing.

I was unfortunately also doing a lot of amateur British hip-hop at the time that was atrocious (Chavs without talent, something to be missed, believe me).

The only UK-based HipHop act I've worked with that was GOOD was a guy called HuntkillBury Finn, also quite a refreshing change from my usual rock/indie/emo work.

IAM and Mc Solaar are pretty much the best of the best. Also check out some of IAM's member side projects, like Akhenaton first solo cd called METEQUE ET MATE. Too bad you can't understand the lyrics, because Mc Solaar's lyrics are pure poetry. My favorite track of him are 'Le Nouveau Western' and 'La Concumbine de L'hemoglobine'.

The video for the second one was fucked up, he was standing on a black stool in a circular room, and blood would pour from the walls and he just stood there in a white dress while the room filled up.

IAM are kind of like the french Wu Tang Clan, they also did quite a few tracks with them. But overall IAM > Wu Tang when it comes to the quality of the lyrics. The lyrics are simply awesome.

When it comes to lyrics *nothing* can beat Assassin but it's kind of underground french hip-hop and it's hard to get sucked by the songs if you don't know what they're talking about.

Solaar is too soft as a rap singer, and he got too pop oriented with his last albums imo. Can't go wrong with IAM though. IAM for the music and the flow if you don't get the lyrics, Saian Supa Crew for the fun factor.
