In this MPEG video, you can see French troops firing indiscriminately on unarmed Ivory Coast civilians. (Thanks to all who emailed.)

I simply cannot believe what I am seeing in these videos! Where is the international outrage caused by this?

Why is the news media not running these stories?

Why has the UN not denounced these blatent war crimes?

Will they even do it?

I warn you now, do not watch these movies unless you can stomach seeing a teenage girl writhing around on the ground in her own blood as she holds her chest where the bullets hit her.

Ivory coast has oil, natural gas and their biggest industry cocoa which is nearly half of the world's beans. It is a gold mine for the french.

They got the Europeans out of there some time ago, right? So, everything's okay.

I stand corrected... there's your answer right there.

Yep, everything's A-okay. I mean, it's not like the Africans in Ivory Coast have been killing each other for the past few years.....oh wait.

Yeah, Africans have been killing each other for CENTURIES to line the pockets of Westerners... any of the heads at DeBeers will tell you this. Where the hell have you been Link?

In other news Lincoln got shot... they say a guy named Booth did it.

Apparently the French don't understand the concept of "surrender."

The difference is that American companies control the flow of oil there (Exxon and Chevron, I believe?), AND all the oil is located off-shore in deep water.

Duh, every nation's soldiers are allowed to kill unarmed civilians, apart from America. I'm not from the USA and even I know this rule.

Actually, after looking at it again... I think the french were using rubber bullits, and from the looks of it, cuncussion grenades because it looks like someone picked one up, tried to throw it back and it blew up in their hand.

edit: Actually, I just saw the very end. I don't quite know about the person with the blown up head... I don't know how that would happen.

With all due respect -- LGF is the last place I'd go for "news." Are you completely sure of your source?

Yeah, that was fucking sick.. I didn't see weapons on the ground next to the fallen bodies. I wonder what provoked them into shooting into the crowd if anything. They shot numerous times into the crowd I believe.

Well, I think regular newsmedia has a greater obligation to give people context and make sure footage isn't fraudulent or propaganda. Unlike a web blog they can't really just say "Here's some French dudes shooting people! OMG!" and then run some video from the internet. That would be why they haven't immediately pounced on all of this.

I'm not entirely sure what to make of it either. Other than the dude with the blown up head, nobody looks to be injured very seriously....and a lot of it is people who have obviously not been shot lying on the ground (heat exhaustion?). It's almost the same amount of carnage you'd see at a stop on the Warped Tour :D

It's around 8:50 in the second video. Seems weird that there's that one totally gory death, and everybody else seems to have flesh wounds.

It might be that he got cought in the stampede of people and someone stepped on his head. I don't know, it seems like the French would've had to to been using some pretty damn huge guns to so something like that.

It could be this incident on the tape..

Nov 9, 2004 — By Peter Murphy and Ange Aboa

ABIDJAN (Reuters) - Gunfire killed at least 10 and wounded hundreds in a clash involving French troops, protesters and local security forces in Ivory Coast on Tuesday, the fourth straight day of chaotic violence in the West African country.

Shooting broke out as French soldiers tried to leave a hotel in the main city Abidjan. France said Ivorian forces trying to help them leave opened fire after being shot at by protesters. But the demonstrators said the French had fired on the crowd.

Four bodies lay near the towering Hotel Ivoire building after the shooting — an Ivorian paramilitary policeman, a headless corpse and two women. Protesters carried a fifth corpse to the residence of President Laurent Gbagbo.

As is with any protest-turned-deadly, we will probably never get to the truth of the matter....whether violence was instigated by police or by demonstrators.

Anybody know what exactly the crowd was so worked up about? (EDIT: nevermind...seems like the newspaper explained most of it. The blogger "forgot" to mention some important specifics or put anything into any kind of context)

I really don't know what to make of this. After the incident, 1:40 on the video, you can see (what I believe are) Ivorian troops. Then after a while, at 8:20, you can see the French. Also, when you start to hear the chaos at 0:23, it seems like there had been some stuff before that was cut out. It went from relative calm to the cameraman running, instantaneously. It doesn't seem like the civilians had any weapons, but at the same time it wouldn't make any sense for the troops to just start killing people.

I'm downloading the first half right now. It might shed some light, but I doubt it.

Either way, how fucked up. I feel so sorry for those people.

It's funny how the blogger says that "you can see French troops firing indiscriminately on unarmed Ivory Coast civilians," when nothing could be further from the truth. You never see any soldiers firing off rounds. At best, you hear shots being fired while the camera is pointed at the ground or the leaves in a tree or something. You never really know who is firing or what they are firing at.

All you really see is the aftermath...

As stated, it's plain as day in part 1 of the video.. for quite some time in fact. Also, video 2 is very, very disheartening. This will of course go without notice to much of the international community since America isnt involved.

Tensions have been running high between the French and the Ivorians, after French forces destroyed most of the Ivorian air force in retaliation for an air raid which killed nine of its peacekeepers.

Government supporters have taken to the streets to protest against the French military action.

Cardinal Agre alleged some of the protesters had been beheaded, in an interview with Vatican Radio last week.

"I've just come back from the hospitals, it's unbearable, these young girls decapitated by the French army, these people even lying on the floor," he said.
French Defence Minister Michele Alliot-Marie said the "outrageousness" of the claims "strips them of any credibility".

"These charges amount to disinformation similar to President Gbagbo's doubts about the reality of the French military victims in Bouake," she told France-Inter radio.

Someone was certainly beheaded. Though I think it may just have been the one person, and I don't know how. The French may shoot at protesters to keep them away (which is terrible in itself), but I find it hard to believe that they'd purposely behead anyone, or throw grenades.

I think what's happened here is obvious, American troops dressed in French military uniforms is the logical explanation.

This will go without notice to much of the international community for the same reason that what happened at Guantánamo Bay was neglected, while the abuse scandal in Iraq was not.

In this case we've got footage, but none of which will make it to the media or could even be broadcast.

If you don't understand what I'm saying, just look to see if American networks (including FOX News) will cover this incident much, if at all.

What happens when you train people to be mindless killing machines? Well, they end up killing lots of people due to their stupidity. I really don't think the French have helped things one bit in the IC. Shooting and bombing up the joint is supposed to be "protecting" people? What a joke. PEACE.
