TVLine has learned exclusively that the exploding revival craze is expanding to include the classic ’90s sitcom, with original star Will Smith leading the charge (this time solely as a producer).

According to multiple sources, Smith’s production shingle, Overbrook Entertainment, is in the very early stages of developing a present-day Fresh Prince reboot that puts a new spin on the fish-out-of-water tale while maintaining the spirit of the original series. (An official longline is still being hammered out.)

I’m told a pitch is being finalized now and Overbrook will begin shopping it around in the coming weeks. Smith would serve as an EP alongside his Overbrook producing partners James Lassiter, Caleeb Pinkett and Jada Pinkett-Smith.

(thanks Penguin :p)

They should do a reverse Fresh Prince.

Jaden is kicked out of Malibu by his mom and pop and dropped to live with his aunty in West Philly.

Does the article say that they're developing... the logline?

We have a logline in development story for a remade TV show. That's crazy.

Not sure if this will work in this day and age; besides, one of the best things about Fresh Prince is that it always had a fantastic balance between comey and covering serious issues people grow up with.

And damn, young Will was one of a kind. Not sure who could have similar charisma and mojo.

what does that mean?

The logline is the single-sentence description of the show.

This article is suggesting that they don't know how to sum-up the remake of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air into a single sentence yet. Will Smith's production company has to hammer out a logline to a remake of his show.

I'm all for adjusting it for a modern generation. As funny as they show was, it tackled a lot of topics that just weren't being talked about. Curious as to see what they'd do with today's landscape. Cautiously optimistic. I'm just wondering if they can find a lead as good as Will was. The whole cast was so good.

ERMYGERD!
Who would want this? It will honestly never come close to the magic that was created on that set by that crew, all it will achieve is make you long to the original, like how every Cypress Hill album made people want to listen to Black Sunday again.
