Collector's Edition of Eternal Sunshine... Planned
Yup, just weeks after selling the regular edition.

October 20, 2004 - Don't blame me, I'm just the messenger. And as mad as some of you, too.

Just weeks after the film's DVD release, Universal Home Video has announced plans for a two-disc Collector's Edition of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The price hasn't been set, but it will hit stores on January 4 of next year.

Universal also has not said what will be on the second disc, which will presumably have all the new material. Disc one will contain the extras found on the current DVD. We do know it will have a memorial photo book.

Good thing I didn't buy mine yet. :D
I am trying to hold myself from buying DVD's right upon release now and trying to buy less and less overall (waiting for the next format? :p). Aside from next year's Disney Ghibli offerings I don't think I will be getting anymore DVD's right when they are released.

Haw I just bought that. I watched half of it, then realized I had to go somewhere. ><
This is why I'm so reluctant when purchasing new dvds. I remember everyone telling me that there wouldn't be any more versions of the LotR DVDs "THE PETERJACKZON SED SO" but...:\
Not sure that I'd want to get this SE, though. Especially since I don't know what's on the second disc and I haven't seen the whole movie :p

I was at Future Shop today and nearly bought it. Sweet.

Wait, what? Are you talking about the EEs on top of the regulars (which had always been announced), or something else entirely? In which case, what the fuck could they possibly still have to include?

It's the same as the single disc version, with the soundtrack and a picture book added. No big deal.

Seems like a cheap shot at trying to get money out of people.

Universal Home Video has today announced plans to release a two-disc Collector's Edition of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind which stars Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, Elijah Wood, Mark Ruffalo and Tom Wilkinson. As far as we know, the set will include the standard retail release of the film, along with the films soundtrack on the second disc. On top of that, the set will include a Commemorative Photo Book.

I have never cared about extras on a DVD. I buy it for the movie, and possibly the trailers if they were particularly good. But the making of, actor/director commentary, etc...all of these things just ruin the movie for me, because as I'm watching it, all I can think of is, "Ah, funny story about this scene," or, "Haha, Jim Carrey didn't want to do this one but had to anyway!"

I wont buy this one either unless it's on sale the first week. Any DVD that starts at $19.99 gets passed over until it goes on sale at Target.

What's with all the silver text in the background behind the key art?

It's like a George Bush speech or something.

Exactly. They announced the EEs at the EXACT FUCKING TIME as the theatrical DVDs. Anyone who complains about them releasing the EEs and trying to milk people is a fucking retard as they gave you enough warning before you bought the two-disc edition.

Jackson has stated that they won't do another release of LOTR until HD-DVD is out.

Universal makes some of the absolute worst box art. Their formula seems to be, find a picture showcasing the "star", add a litany horribly mis-representative critic quotes, and then slap their logo on it.

Honestly, I cannot express to you how much I hate Universal when it comes to DVD production.

What a shitty cover. I love the film, but was never a fan of the movie poster actually. Anyway, I think I'll just get the original when (or if) it goes for cheap since the extras are not that hot.

Was that a sarcastic post, ManaByte? I know about as much about sci-fi television shows as I do about the female orgasm...

Embarassing.

I occassionally work for an advertising company that does lots of DVD box covers. The art guys almost never get to make cool designs. The marketing departments at the studios always want lame photoshop collages.
